Mattel is actually really dumb for making the core figures in DC also 6.5in rather than 5.5in like MOTU. Because lots of people are going to just buy the core versions of most of the less important characters for cheap as "good enough" and leave the collector versions of those characters to rot on shelves at $27+
>>
>>
>>11803279
>>11803287
They're just mimicking the formula from WWE, between Main Event (basics) and Elite (collector) figures. Between scaling and being able to swap heads and certain other parts, that's kind of why they exist this way.
>>
>>
>>11803279
I think the idea is to do the more like WWE method of it, where the kids line on the adult side of things IS supplemental, But on the other hand I honestly can't see them making that obscure of characters in the kids line, even the spinmaster stuff didn't go very deep. Like I'm thinking like Plastic Man tops is the most obscure they'll probably do (I know he's not really that obscure now but most casual fans still really don't even know him)
>>
>>11803328
Adding back on because I forgot This point actually, but I think again they're expecting fans to double dip because people will buy a figure and that eventually want to upgrade, because a lot of adult collectors tend to be like that where they will buy something and then a year later when the newer better one comes out they'll still buy that, just in this case it's a kid's toy version
>>
>>
I guess I'm confused on this motu idea I see here. What is it you guys mean? Do you want origins styled figures or do you just prefer the actual dimensions of the size? The female figures in origins (there aren't many female characters) all share the same exact body. Which after a good six years becomes pretty friggin boring.
Would anyone be happy with Phantom Lady on the teelas body?

Core on the left
>>
>>11803398
I think they just would prefer the kids line be less similar to the eventually collectors stuff as to lessen the potential cannibalization "Oh, I don't really need an expensive Joker this $13 one is pretty good and works with that $28 batman I just got" vs "Oh, this Joker is from an entirely different scale, guess I'll have to get the $28 dollar one to work with the Batman I just got"
When if I'm being honest, the latter cannibalizes more from what I've seen with MOTU because it means if you get invested in one line you're pretty damn locked in. I collect the movie core stuff, and realistically I won't get any movie origins or chronicles.

Todd is making a Witchblade and Savage Dragon for his Image series. I've been saying for months that public domain characters would be really interesting. I'd prefer something accurate to the source material, but a McFarlane Toys figure of Fantomah with vibes from the old Blair Witch figure would be sick.
Branching out to more independent characters like Hellboy is a good move, too. Maybe Cerberus, Shi, or Aphrodite IX.

The wait is almost over bros!!!
>A new era of DC Comics figures begins this coming Sunday (5/31) with the launch of Mattel's new line of DC Core products which will be available online and at physical stores.
>We will see the first round of 6.5" figures which should include the likes of Robin, Joker, Batman, and Flash. We will see deluxe figures along with a new line of Bat-Link vehicles that include a new Batmobile and Robin with Cycle. We will see various 12" figures and more.
>These are all part of the first stage of Mattel's recapture of the DC toy license from Spin Master with the more kids oriented stuff that is going to be priced around $12.99 each for a single 6.5" core figure.
>Then in the beginning of 2027 Mattel will be launching their new "Collector" 6.5" oriented figures after McFarlane Toys ends their run with the license this year.
>You will find these new Mattel DC Core figures at physical stores like Walmart and Target. Some Targets have already started getting them in stock with a sale date of this Sunday.

I think this is actually a good detection test for which reviewers are just doing reviews to make money or get free stuff and who actually has some legitimacy. Reviewers know there's a lot of "hype" around the license switch but because the kids toys release first they don't have any actual collector product to review. I think they know a lot of people will watch the reviews of the kids toys anyway, and so try to get as many views as they can out of this situation. I will most likely note which channels choose to review this stuff so I can safely ignore their reviews in the future.

I went to 2 targets today and they were both sold out of the core line except for batmobiles and flashes which I saw 1 left at the first target and 2 at the other. >>
>>
>>11804586
The Target I went to by my house had seemingly two assortments. The guy looked up Robin's DPCI and had 8 of them, it said assorted though so I have to assume that it was the whole wave. I told him to grab Robin specifically which he got for me. Nothing was out on the shelves yet.

Given the time BBTS just put the figures up (3am) and seemingly Amazon too, just like Target's 3am a day earlier, maybe Mattel actually did select this time as an "F you" to collectors, as they know kids don't preorder, only collectors do, and parents will buy something days, weeks or even months down the line, not the second a preorder drops.

It was only the last 1.5 days for me. And it's simple: lower standards will cause corporations to cater to those and limit the range of figures available for people with higher standards. For example, for awhile, Black Series are now allowed to have single jointed knees and elbows thanks to people's low standards.
If Mattel sees collectors are willing to buy these core figures, they will know they can cut back articulation on their collector figures in the next few years safely once they're out of the honeymoon phase and have their audience.
They have already shown proclivity to do this with Masterverse where females used to have double jointed arms but since a new female buck was introduced they went to single elbows that don't even reach full 90 degrees.
>>
>>11805398
You are genuinely stupid and should be embarrassed that you spent any time sperging out at what complete strangers you'll never meet do with their own money. Go cry into your pillow about it Rusty Brown.
>>
>>
>>11805398
>lower standards will cause corporations to cater to those and limit the range of figures available for people with higher standards
if that was true, those mattel figures would still have pins like mcfarlanes
>>
>>
>>11805411
It's too late to roll that back, they already made the switch to pinless with Hasbro and that does not really cost much. Switching back would cost more than it's worth. But cutting articulation and paint from new figures/bucks is easily doable.

I picked up a Jango off Amazon and someone had swapped out the new figure with the old one. At first I was pissed and going to return it, but then I noticed the old Jango has better articulation, a better head sculpt, and more complex paint apps, so i kept him. The old one is kinda pricey, so I was a little confused by why they'd put a better figure in a box and get refund for a free but objectively worse version of the same character.
Then it hit me.
They think new is automatically better.
What a fool. Now they have a Happy Meal tier Jango, probably crammed in a shelf with a billion other Likes and Stormtroopers, while the superior version gets to enjoy valhalla in my collection with all my hot custom sith bitches.
You're absolutely right about collectors lowering their standards, and it's fucking disgusting.
>>
>>
>>
>>11805441
Also, I have to point out how weird it is that you jump through these mental hula hoops to justify shit like getting an older, objectively worse figure. I have both, and the new one is miles better than the old one and the rest of the internet seemingly agrees.
>>
>>
File: 61b68a5494844acab3cf9a789d0aba8clg.jpg (48.0 KB)
>>11805451
The newer one has a really bright jumpsuit, and the blasters are that cheap fake silver plastic, all the blues look faded. They're probably using the same headsculpt but the new printing method is awful. The old one is solid.
Have a Taun We I haven't opened yet and waiting for this chick to ship. No idea who she is and don't care.
Star Wars is gay but the hoplite helmet design mandalorians have is cool. Not surprised someone like you wouldn't be able to fully appreciate peak aesthetics.
>>
>>11805456
First of all, put your trip back on pussy.
Second, I have both Jangos and both Leias. Both old versions are definitely worse. Jango can barely fucking stand and despite having single knees, has better range of motion everywhere else from the neck, to the shoulders, to elbows, to the torso and hips. The old one can't even bend his elbows past 90. And Leia has an objectively worse head sculpt and the cloth robe is lazily done to the point it almost looks like she's wearing a white sheet, and lets not even get started on the "hood". The plastic dress, isn't even more limiting since it's cut on the sides allowing her legs to move fairly freely.
I'm not someone who automatically thinks new is better, in fact more times than not, I'll pass on a new version of something if I don't think it's that much of an upgrade, but sometimes new is better. The new Jango is worth the upgrade just for the fact that it has ball wrists.
>>
File: file.jpg (1021.7 KB)
>>11805464
lmao, imagine trying to justify that the left looks better than the right here. This left one is even the gaming greats one that had the better paintjob than the original.
>>
File: Leia legs lol.png (178.3 KB)
>>11805451
I see some reviewers of the newer Jango literally having to paint the shin, knee and thigh guards themselves because Hasbro refused to. They justify it while doing so too.
>>11805471
There's nothing natural about giant plastic sheets over the back and front of her legs. Real cloth is the only way the leg movement can be natural to someone actually wearing a cloth dress.
>>
>>11805472
Ball wrists are unnecessary when his whole thing is going guns akimbo, unless you're trying to make your Jangos jerk off in a circle to see who can fill their helmets first or whatever. Objectively the new one looks worse in ways that are unforgivable, like the Easter egg pastel jumpsuit and bright tan pouches. Thanks for posting proof the new one looks like a happy meal toy.

Sorry, but I don't need my Princess Leia to be be doing high kicks, so I'm fine. I actually prefer cloth for capes and dresses, and stuff, but Hasbro's attempt at it with the archive Leia is terrible. I generally agree with you otherwise, as long as the cloth goods are done well.
>>
>>
>>11805501
I can get her in a good enough running pose with it, which is all I'll ever need for ANH Leia to do other than just standing there, or standing there in a shooting pose. My favorite Imaginext deep cut (and there’s more than you might think) actually relates to all this. When they first made Swamp Thing in the line, he was in a two pack with a Batman in swamp boots and a machete. Years later, in one of the non-DC blind bag series, they released this familiar-looking woman who wears the same boots and has the same backpack accessory that Batman came with.
It stands to reason they originally intended for that Swamp Thing two-pack to come with Abby. Maybe someone higher up thought including her would would make it an even tougher sell to kids, or they thought a pair best known for their acid yam vegetable sex wasn’t such a great idea either.

It's under the assumption that if the kiddie line is already this good then surely the collectors edition will be even better. Even as a McFarlane ride or die I will admit I'm slowly getting moved towards Mattel. If the $13 line is already pinless, once they add in the additional articulation they will most definitely be better than McFarlane. God help Todd if they come out the gate with wired capes.

Also, I wanted to grab him since who knows if or when the collector line does a figure based on the Dan Mora costume he wears in World's Finest, which I actually like and think works well for a young adult, pre-Nightwing, Dick Grayson. I have to assume that the collectors version will be based on the classic costume, at least the first figure or two. The kid's line isn't really what I'm looking for but it was a nice little preview of things to come. Gave me a lot more hope for the collector line than I've had since the announcement was made.

Lots of reuse I presume?

Toddy gave you all the extra hands you asked for and only charged and extra $10 for it. This is why Todd should've stuck to his guns with the lack of accessories. The classic costume complainers are quick to turn on lines

After people buy something if they don't end up liking it there is going to be some mental conflict with themselves, trying to justify the purchase. Really I don't know why anyone would buy a Batmobile for a collector perspective. For kids, sure, they can have fun playing with a batmobile. But for collectors it just takes up a ton of space on a shelf and does nothing except let you sit a Batman figure in it.

Does anyone know what accessories the BTAS ventriloquist reissue will include? I assume they are omitting scarface's tommy gun in the new version of the figure. Maybe theyll include the alternate hands for scarface that were cut from the OG dc direct release to compensate for the lack of the gun.

Only titans, lanterns, an aquaman a Wally west, absolute Wonder Woman and villains. I’ll make exceptions for anything based on Dan moras art tho. The Mattel kids line will be my main dc line. I don’t plan on buying another collector Batman figure after lpzz hush Batman.

Insider here. Mattel will have a full black box walled off from their display at SDCC with the secret Collector's Edition figures.
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Brainiac, and Harley will be the first figures.
Green Lantern, Flash, Cyborg, Maxima, and Luthor are rumored to be the second wave.
BAF waves are back. First megafig will be Metallo.

I'm extremely happy that the kids get their own decently priced line. If I ever buy any it'll probably be to give away as gifts, since I'm into toys because I grew up with them.
I have no idea if I'll start yet another DC collection with their collector line. I loved my DCUC and I LOATHED Mattel and their Digital River shenanigans and their SDCC fuckery. Add to that I just don't like the modern designs with all of those useless lines on the costumes, I prefer Silver Age stuff. I might dabble, and I might buy some for custom fodder.
It's been a frustrating and expensive thing restarting my Marvel Legends over and over again with each improvement over the past 20 years. I'm just not excited to do so yet again with DC. There are a few upgrades I want, and some never-done (Mera!) but overall I just don't want to get back on the Mattel roller coaster again.
I'm honestly considering just upgrading some headsculpts, using UV printed DTF stickers for the eyes, and largely calling it good with my DCUC's. And I see the hoops and bullshit they put their MOTU collectors through.
