In the story the only thing that's majorly fucked up is the moon after the Rangers launched an offensive on Rita's Palace and blew it the fuck up after her and Zedd destroyed Zordon, Alpha, and the Command Center.

I recommend reading the story, it's decent, like a slightly better version of Once and Always, and won't take more than an hour to finish.

If Jason was morphed constantly, then maybe he'd have to add stuff like wrapping the grip over time to make up for all the wear and tear. But the actual reason is that it just looks cool, which is the most important thing in Power Rangers at the end of the day.

Im just talking about the suit itself, not the additions. So the rest of the rangers could be the same but the suit style is different from the previous models.
