As for the team, I can't say for sure he would end up as leader or not. It's either him or Pyrrha. Cardin doesn't change his way, and is up to Velvet to do something about that.
I dunno what would happen in the Fall, it could go either way: either HE loses an arm for Blake, or helps Pyrrha against Cinder (I don't see her feeling the need to send him away). I don't think the pair would be enough against a Full Maiden Cinder though.

It's just the truth. Sun is the best thing to come out of the Faunus subplot, but him having more screentime will give them more time to fuck it and him up. And since the Faunus subplot is the lamest of all RWBY's plot, it will push the average into even more lame stuff.

The dance arc is less involved since he's not interested in Weiss so he'd just gas Neptune up I guess.
Speaking of Weiss, she gets a lot more racist moments early on with a faunus part of the main cast from the get-go.


I think the main change is the JNPR team dynamic. He's a more hands-off leader than Jaune. He doesn't need training and is into Blake so Pyrrha doesn't end up with a love interest. I could see her taking the maiden offer earlier in that case which might let her beat Cinder.

I'd say Jaune succeeded as a foil but Ruby and Jaune both failed at protag/deuterag for the same reason (shit concept and execution). RWBY failed as heroes because they never do anything heroic (they all balk at the kid protection mission that Jaune ends up doing, they work against trying to save Atlas, they don't beat the Leviathan, their vigilante efforts were ineffectual and had large amounts of collateral damage, they only ever stopped the villains once at Haven, etc)

Cinder should beat out half-maiden Pyrrha well enough. Even if Pyrrha had some training with the powers, I don't think she's reliably beating Qrow in the timespan she'd have available to her pre-Fall, much less Ozpin. Cinder dealt with Ozpin readily enough so I think Pyrrha straight gets out-scaled even at max power.

The only x factor is if she allows Sun to assist her or not, but I'd lean towards no since, while her emotions for Sun might not be romantical or protective as they were for Jaune, she'd be even more firm in her conviction she needs to be the one to save the world than in normal canon when she was doubting it. Even if Sun does help, Cinder will just make more use of the Grimm Wyrm I imagine

Sidenote, it's kinda funny how both Penny and Pyrrha explicitly say they believe their purpose is to save the world and they both get waxed in V3 before they even realize those are the stakes

In fairness Cinder offscreening Oz gets more bullshit as time goes on. She went on to job to every other maiden she encountered while Oz was revealed to be a millennia-old wizard that had a nuke's worth of energy stored in his cane.

I think Pyrrha would probably lose if both of them have half the maiden powers since Cinder would have more backup via Grimm and her glass constructs negate one of Pyrrha's big advantages. But it'd be pretty close, Pyrrha still put up a decent fight in canon where she had no maiden powers, if it was an even fight she could live up to her namesake and make it a Pyrrhic victory for Cinder.

Things would of probably have been better if they made isolated arcs and mini series of the Remnant setting rather than try to give a whole narrative. The world can keep moving forward, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the main focus.
I know they said they wouldn't want to do a beach 'chapter' but it'd be nice to just see the teams relax and have a fun day out, maybe they get overly competitive playing volleyball or they find a cave nearby the beach and go explore.

Rather than having to focus on initiation, since they don't need to have a narrative, they could just start with RWBY in Beacon and have the sort of slice of life disagreements and let the arguments get greater and greater until it turns into a fight.
That does mean the nevermore fight in initiation either wouldn't happen or only happen later

My hot take: Pyrrha shouldn’t have lost against Cinder. She clearly had Cinder stunlocked and just decided to give up that advantage for no reason.
