everybody wont shut up about how amazing greece is yet all the locals wanna get the fuck out of this godforsaken hellhole
t. greek
if you are to come, avoid athens, mykonos, santorini, crete, anywhere where there are social media faggots
rent a car, go to some random mountainous town in the peloponnese, go to some greek isle where there is no airport or cruise liners and people dont speak english and you'll be fine

>avoid athens
but athens has all the cool historical museums
>go to some greek isle where there is no airport or cruise liners and people dont speak english
but how would i communicate with them? and wouldn't they be annoyed with a tourist shitting up their village?

>but athens has all the cool historical museums
if thats your thing, then fine.
you will probably have lots of fun, the archaeological museum is considered the best of its kind
but dont expect the vibe of athens to be that, its probably closer to india or latin america or barcelona.
>wouldn't they be annoyed with a tourist shitting up their village?
those are the ones that are friendly actually, the true authentic islanders

>Do you prefer the mainland or island hopping?
def island hopping, i think i've been camping to most islands by now. Mainland is also amazing if you have a car

But the islands don't have ancient ruins so what's the point of visiting?
I'm going there to recreate the odyssey

I just came back from one week Athens and Thessaloniki.
The food is really fantastic. We usually had three different kind of mezze style dishes for the two of us. Usually cost around 40€ with 0.5l of house wine. Can recommend restaurant Asymmerto in Athens and Oinohoos in Thessaloniki.
Good selection of craft beer is available in Greece but rather expensive (6.5€ for 0.33l).
Toilet paper cant go into the toilet in most places which is 3rd style. But overall we had a good time.

Sounds good, but the issue with that is that anything non touristic in greece does have shitty infrastructure. And also you'll end up in private land with 20 dogs chasing after you. It's not like scotland where there's freedom to roam, more like england where everyone gets pissy if you step on their land. I mean it doesn't have to be the case and most of them are friendly, apart from the middle aged women in athens.

crete does have roman and minoan ruins. Don't know about the other ones.

I was thinking of going to Athens this autumn or winter for a tattoo appointment.
when does the ''season'' end so it wont be as busy
I'll take a few days off work so its not a single day type of thing and I can explore a bit too

Rick Steves said travelers have the right to walk on private land so even if there’s a fence/gate, you are allowed to walk through. Was he lying?

how bad is it? I want to get the ink done. but while im there I'd take the opportunity to see some sights since im a history nerd. Churches, Parthenon, anything historic even if its just a wall or some shit like that
The parthenon is like a 15 minute walk away, just to give a vague area I'd be in

Greece is amazing, but avoid tourist spots. Either pick some random small island (maybe I lucked out) or do the Peloponnese. Visiting Mycenae alone made it worth it, for some reason it was basically empty in the middle of July.
But I stopped at some city in the Peloponnese which turned out to just be a cruise ship stop, so you have to make a bit of research
>>
>>2876683
>how bad is it?
i guess its not that bad, def much less intense, starting from the middle of september and especially after october, things really become more humane
for example in the ancient sights its difficult in the summer just getting in
what i meant is that we get tourists till december, which wasnt noticeable till few years back. guess people travel a lot more nowadays.
you'll like it, lots of ancient stuff to explore

>a cruise ship stop
has to be katakolo, kek. that area on its own has no value, the gulf of kyparisia is just a 100 km sand beach with nothing around it. very beautiful though
the only reason that big port exists is because a huge percentage of the greek economy 150 years ago was exporting raising to the west for deserts, wine etc which were exported from katakolo
nowadays raisin exports are totally negligeble yet the huge port remained, and they turned into one of the largest cruise ports in greece alongside santorini, kek

>if you are not miserable poor
shalom. i am happy to take your money.
>mykonos
has nothing to offer other than the clubs on the beach i guess? but then if you wanna do clubbing there are better places for that?
Little venice my ass, every island looks like that
>santorini and milos
i believe both of those islands are ultra worth it, but, in santorini at least, you want get the greek experience. its more like disneyland, Akrotiri and the views of the caldera are worth it

Hey anon, I dont want to make another thread so I am quick taking over your thread. I bet you'll appreciate it also:
Hello anons, I would like to go back to Greece but this time to Altis (real name: Limnos) and Stratis (real name: Ag. Efstratios) from the game Arma 3. Is it really worth going for hiking and landscape photography?
Even better question, are there any real milsim events? I hope somebody on that Greek island capitalized on that idea, due to how well the game Arma3 sold!?
I remember one anon here saying his mother is from that Island. If you are reading this, have you gone yet? What was the experience like? Any cool things to do there?

i am a faggot and i prefer mountains over the sea and will suggest you go hiking in arkadia,
in those really mountainous villages with the rivers and the monasteries
check out bassae if you care about the cultural stuff and check out the gulf of kyparisia for a great swim and laconia for peak historical town beauty

What is a good area to go with my wife and 2y son? There is for example a direct flight to Thessaloniki and from there we could rent a car and go somewhere. There seem to be some nice beaches when driving south.
We would like good food options, very nice comfy beaches and some sights to check out. Or should we better go directly to one of those islands like Corfu or dare I say Zakynthos? I mean the images I find are incredible but it seems more touristy(?). We go beginning of July. If I bring my wife to places like pic related I'm sure we would make our 2nd kid not long after

from thessaloniki you could go to Chalkidiki (with a car) or Sporades (with the ferry) pretty easily
if you remember that one kino from the late 2000s mama mia, it was all filmed in Skiathos and Skopelos actually, google it
>ionian islands
Corfu is genuinely amazing, its town is probably the most historic town alongside Rhodes maybe and the villages on the north and south are really authentic
Zante is so pretty, gets a bad name from all the drunk british people and the raves

Zakynthos does have those shallow beaches in the south at Vasilikos. East around Planos is similar, more touristy. There's also a water park. Laganas is trash and for 15 year olds drinking and trying to lose their virginity. Corfu is ok too, but bigger, more Forests and better for hiking. The water is a bit colder there, especially in the north west. Both have similar blue colors that one of the "bluest" worldwide. Both are touristy, but you'll find apartments that are a bit more private from all the loud tourists. I'd go to Zakynthos, because it's just smaller and easier to move around. Early July might be okay, but I usually avoid going there during July and August.

Well yeah, the economy is still fucked. If money wasnt an issue Greece is a beautiful country with lots of shit to do unless you’re a massive cityfag in which case Athens is pretty mid.
Im curious why you say avoid Crete though? I know some people from Chania who say its nice, or is it more unbearable during peak tourist season?
>>
>>2875554
Go to Lefkada. April and May were great times to go, not too hot and not too wet. Was virtually devoid of tourists at that time of year despite having good tourist infrastructure already open. Everyone was very friendly and roaming doesn't seem to be an issue on the island. We drove all roads and saw all sights with plenty of discovery of things we would have never found on Google Maps. The country as a whole is a 10/10, probably up there with Japan for places that live up to the hype. Just don't stay in Athens if you can avoid it.

I'm in Syvota. All I've done so far is
>tan
>get burnt as fuck and no longer be able yo enjoy tanning
>eat
>sleep
>repeat
Perhaps coming to a place filled with normalfags was a mistake, but what the fuck is there to do in a place like this as a sunburnt white man?
