California is very beautiful and looks fun, but the modern context seems less than its historical appeal (homelessness, fent zombies, shit covered streets). Are there places that offer the full Californian experience without all of that or is it all baby and bath water.

California history is only good as a pop culture thing, purely in the modern era. Prior to that, when the spics and their missions littered the place it was genocidal and if you learn anything about their history those were effectively concentration camps. It’s been very heavily whitewashed by christcuck politicians in the 80s and 90s

California is a paradise if you aren't a retarded loser sperg. It allows you to live your interests if you are smart and motivated enough to understand the game there.
>(homelessness, fent zombies, shit covered streets)
if you are a depressed loser, you wont get anywhere. You'll just keep seeing the bad instead of the good cool parts of the state.

California is 40 percent larger than Italy. Almost half of the state is a park. If you go down the list of the most violent places in California nearly all of them are centered around LA, San Bernardino and Oakland. But it's mostly LA. And nearly all of the violent crime in the state is committed by Hispanics and Blacks.
With that said, there are a ton of awesome spots in California. The National Parks are amazing. Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia are 3 of the best parks in America. Yosemite is easily my favorite national park. For road trips, the drive up route 1 from Moro Bay to Carmel is the best drive in America. Orange County has some of the best beaches in the US for surfing. Ever beach from Newport Beach to Oceanside is great. Lake Tahoe has some of the best skiing in the US. They get a ton of snow and they have the best weather. The resorts are huge and there are a few cheaper places like Sierra, Donner, Soda Springs and Diamond Peak. Sugar Bowl still has tickets for less than $90 too.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of Disney. I live 20 minutes away and I go maybe once every 4 years. But I do really like Knotts Berry Farm and Six Flags. Knott Scary Farm at Halloween is one of the best Halloween attractions I've ever done in the US. Six Flags has great rollercoasters if you're into that.
My best advice for visiting California is this, go to the beaches in Orange County. Visit Yosemite. Go in September after the crowds are gone. Do some Halloween attractions in the theme parks. Spend one afternoon, at the most, in LA. That's all you need. Don't come to California and not rent a car.

To put this into Total War: Warhammer map terms, the further out you get from the center, the more Chaos reigns. Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle and especially Slaanesh reflect the reality of California. One, there are violent gangs ready to sate their bloodlust on you. Two, tradition and culture are scoffed at, all bow before an altar of the new and shun the old and known. Three, obviously there's a lot of degeneracy going on. A lot of these elements can combine in different ways, Slaanesh/Nurgle/Tzeentch in their abysmal homelessness. The approach is to out-nice the meanie Rightists and nice the homeless crackheads to death: give them needles, let them build tent cities in your city center, let them shoplift. Never be mean or make them feel compelled to turn their life around.
Same principle applies to troons, illegal immigrants, AIDS patients, scientologists etc.
It seems being on the fringe naturally leads to things like this but the govt leaned into this and turned the state into a govt test lab of psyops they want to try out and then introduce to the world via Hollywood/TV. With the internet I'm not sure they even need to bother with that anymore. So maybe things will get better there.

If you have a car and enough money to stay in the rich areas, there's no need for you to spend more than a passing moment in the zones of urban decay. However, if you are traveling California by bus or train, you will find them and their characters impossible to avoid.
California will rape your wallet at every turn. But like they say, if rape is unavoidable, you might as well lay back and enjoy the ride. If traveling cheap is more your idea of a good time, I recommend India. You can get all the cultural vibrancy and diversity, beaches and deserts and snowcapped mountains and grimy cities, but with price points that match at the top tier what California costs at rock bottom.

San Clemente is great. It's more upscale and there are some amazing beaches with the best waves. Carmel is probably the prettiest city in the state. Laguna Beach is really nice. I really like Newport Beach. Biking along the balboa peninsula in Newport is 10 times better than anything you'll do in LA. Lake Tahoe is awesome. That's a really underrated summer destination too with epic hiking, biking, swimming, waterfalls, kayaking, etc.

He has a point, 18th and 19th century California was absolute hell in terms of race relations, there were whites, blacks, natives, Chinese, and Mexicans and they all despised each other, it wasn't a hippie la la land where everyone lived in peaceful cooperation

You definitely don't need to do LA. But I would do SF. It's a unique city. Just don't stay at any of those cheap motels on Lombard Street. Stay over in the Wharf. Alcatraz is rad. Biking on Angel Island is amazing. Muir Woods is great. Point Point lighthouse is cool. There are some epic hikes along the coast from Muir Beach to a Pirates Cove. The Musée Mécanique in the Wharf is awesome. Rent a bike and ride across the Golden Gate bridge.

I had so much fun at the San Diego Zoo. It was $70 and worth every penny. The amount of defeated white men with their CCP wives was a bit upsetting but whatever

SF can be pretty dirty and dystopian now so it can go either way but even then I still enjoyed many parts of the city like the Embarcardero/piers and Golden Gate Park. There are also lots of nice museums and cool beaches. I also enjoyed Japantown a lot. So you might miss out if you skip SF. Great food too.
LA is a hellscape. The downtown is soulless compared to SF. If you skipped LA I don't think you'd be missing out.
San Diego is more of a small city, and expensive to live in, but it's also got some nice spots. Downtown has a couple interesting places but I find it to be kind of trashy/tacky and fairly dead. It's nothing like a real city like chicago, nyc, or even sf. But there are great beaches, there's the Anza-Borrego desert to the east, lots of nature in the east in general. La Jolla and Coronado Island are also nicer parts where you'll run into fewer bums and trashy types.
The zoo is probably the best in the country. After you go to the san diego zoo every other zoo is a disappointment. But it is $70.
Oh, that reminds me. The best aquarium I've ever been to is Monterey Bay aquarium. Also worth checking out.
