As someone who used to use travel as his primary form of escapism and now uses VR as his primary form of escapism, I can confidently say: no, VR is absolutely not the same as travel. I love VR, but the appeal is a bit different. If you really want to experience a different country, there is no better option than just fucking going there.

However, if you can't drop a few hundred bucks on a headset AND afford a trip once every now and then, then you have bigger problems.
