The performances were on par with Cats (2019) though. Brosnan in particular is not a good singer.

You guys need to stop judging a director's work by what you think it needs to be. That's what mainstream audiences do.
Instead, take a film for what it is and judge it by its own standards. Lynch is not Resnais. His absurdism is mainly about how it makes you feel, not about what it makes you think. Though I'd say the edgier parts of Blue Velvet are more genuinely European in style overall, with the American pastiche parts in the beginning having a more (then) contemporary American style. Although ... there's always a bit of Wizard of Oz in Lynch's America, isn't there? Only on the surface, of course.
