THE RETURN OF THE KING
>Director Sean Baker talked about his next film a few months back, stating that it was set in Italy, paying homage to Italian sex comedies of the 60s and 70s.
>At CinemaCon earlier, Warner Bros. announced that Baker's next film is titled Ti Amo! (meaning I love you in Italian), and it's set for release in 2027.
>Not only that, Warner Bros. announced a new label, Clockwork, designed to focus on indie films, and Baker gets to inaugurate the label with Ti Amo!.
I speak for all of /film/ when i say that WE are hyped for a new bake from the seanpony.

2022 /film/ was so similar and yet so distinct. All the motifs predictably show their presence but the structure of the symphony hadn't been quite figured out. There's more space between the notes. Less urgency, less tension.
When was the last time anyone talked about Fellini here?

The “Kubrick Stare” is one of Stanley Kubrick‘s most recognizable directorial techniques, a method of shot composition where a character stares at the camera with a forward tilt, to convey to the audience that the character in question is at the peak of their derangement.

If you're an Abba fan, yeah, maybe.
The performances were on par with Cats (2019) though. Brosnan in particular is not a good singer.
Either way, you're probably just better off with a greatest hits compöilation of the band.

I'm always reluctant to call any film "bad" per se. Most have at least something to offer.
But of course, mainstream cinema has lots of trash. Capeshit galore. I'm sure some of them would be considered "cult classics". Then there's Star Wars, particularly the prequels. Definitely "cult classics", with a particularly rabid cult. Oh, a propos science fiction, the new DUNC films are close to absolutely irredeemable trash.
Anon >>219803351 already suggested Troma, but in terms of C-movie cult horror, you can go way trashier. Rob Zombie comes to mind. And many late-70s and early-80s slashers. Though their cult-status nowadays is somewhat disputed.

You guys need to stop judging a director's work by what you think it needs to be. That's what mainstream audiences do.
Instead, take a film for what it is and judge it by its own standards. Lynch is not Resnais. His absurdism is mainly about how it makes you feel, not about what it makes you think. You may say that this makes it more shallow, but it really just is a different kind of depth. And on the plus side, that's what makes Lynch way more accessible. Though maybe you consider this a negative?

That's probably because you approch his films the wrong way in the first place. If you don't let yourself give in to your intuition and instead look for narrative clarity or even metaphors, you're unironically watching them wrong.

Cinema is showing Metropolis tomorrow.
How worth it is it to go see?
I've never seen it but i'm not sure I can stomach 2hrs30mins of it of a silent film. But I do like silent films, especially the cinematography of silent films but fuck is that a long time for a silent film

It's Metropolis, anon. Absolutely go see it on the big screen.

I mean, sure. It's a product of its time, not as fast-moving as films are nowadays. Not as much to read as most other silent films though, heavier on expressive visuals. If you do like good cinematography, that'll probably keep you on your toes for the runtime.

She is for smooching, not file storage.

An actual legitimate answer. I don't. I used to have external hard drives, but it's not worth it. Just watch whatever interests you at the moment. It's very similar to a person who keeps a large collection of books but doesn't read any of them and it just collects dust.

Based sensibleanon. Honestly, people posting on /film/ and still getting filtered by babby's first arthouse filmmaker just doesn't sit right with me. Blue Velvet is just a Hitchcock film but slightly edgier and more audacious in its interpretation of cinematic voyeurism.

Au contraire, she's for storing BBC.

>America's populist surrealist
You yourself insult him, because those aren't good things, and then accuse others of being "filtered" for not fawning over what is a very mid filmmaker.

I'm sure Lynch himself would consider Billy Wilder the stronger Old Hollywood influence. Though I'd say the edgier parts of Blue Velvet are more genuinely European in style overall, with the American pastiche parts in the beginning having a more (then) contemporary American style. Although ... there's always a bit of Wizard of Oz in Lynch's America, isn't there? Only on the surface, of course.

Not always just on the surface...
