It's not even in theaters yet.
What is this estimate based on?
>>
>>
>>219781348
One of two things is going on but ultimately the same thing.
>They've hidden all the interesting plot elements from the trailers so far thus people think the movie is basically nothing and will just wait to stream it
>The movie is actually just a long filler episode that has no real plot significance and none of the other characters show up, and people are not impressed and will just wait to stream it
Maybe they can save it, maybe they have something to show at CinemaCon tomorrow and it's a big reveal that will get people to start buying tickets.

The more important thing is
>Have to watch a bunch of dogshit tv shows to get the plot
>Normies didnt even watch S3 and Boba fett, the few that did hated it
>Nobody knows who Grogu is, they only know Baby Yoda
>It was fotm 10 years ago and everyone moved on

>Tracking
Basically, a statistical correlation between early sales and final numbers.
Late tracking is now so accurate that it's been years since any movie was off by more than ~15%, but this is still very early tracking from before Marketing really kicking in, so these numbers REALLY need to be taken with a grain of salt.
Still keeping Disney executives awake, though.

In Season 1 every Mandalorian episode ended with exceptionally cool concept art that made you stay and watch to the very end. When they took that away in Season 2 I knew the future of that series was fucked.

This.
I remember thinking Disney could pull off a good new trilogy given the success they had with Marvel at the time. Honestly couldn't believe they went in with literally no overarching plot for the new trilogy.

>Oh what's this? So they got a new movie? What's Luke up to in it? What's Han up to in it
This attitude is what ruined the new trilogy. I don't want the same old characters doing the same old thing. Sure, maybe have a little scene showing what happened to them, but I want new people and new conflicts in new places.

If you release a tv movie in the cinema, what do you expect?
They didn't learn their lesson from the low box office of The Marvels, which you needed to have watched about 6 different films and tv series (some of which were exclusively behind a paywall on Disney +) to actually have an idea what was happening and thats even before you actually liked it or not. At least this will have a text crawl at the start explaining that shit, but good fun explaining the whole of the Mandelorian series in about 6 sentences in an engaging way that will make people who like starwars, but weren't big enough fans to get a permanent D+ subscription, excited to see the film and not confused.
In the UK they make things like this but just to show as christmas specials, which might be simulcast in a cinema if its big like Doctor Who.

Calling it Mandalorian and Grogu was a huge miss. Leave the Grogu name out, he functions better as a foil. Put him on the posters etc and in the trailer.
Give Mandalorian a real villain. He's a hero, but why? What is he saving, Joe Random in the world? Make the villain something important to the world. Maybe a sith, maybe a big enemy Mandalorian.
Blank slate the whole film. Do NOT make viewing 3 seasons of a show locked behind a paid subscription streaming service necessary.
These are all simple things. Did no one in the writer's room run these by anyone? No meetings with the board of directors, etc? I wouldn't be surprised if this movie's entire concept and creative direction came from AI prompts that were then shit out onto a green screen with cheap jeet CG and overpaid actors phoning in their lines. Disgraceful from top to bottom.

>Do NOT make viewing 3 seasons of a show locked behind a paid subscription streaming service necessary.
That's the whole reason he gave up on the darksaber and took Baby Yoda back from Luke. You could watch season 1, then the movie, and not miss a single thing

Unless this movie gets very close to, or cracks, $1 billion at the global box-office then there's no way they can play this kind of movie off as a victory. Solo made $393 million worldwide and was considered an unmitigated box-office bomb. This movie might not even match Solo.
>>
>>219784018
George didn't win because he was already rich but sold his baby to Disney for a few extra billion anyway and now they've ruined the franchise so badly that young boys don't even like Star Wars anymore.

R2 D2
C3P0
Boba Fett
Chewbacca
The only characters that needed to return were Yoda, Obi Wan, Anakin, and The Emperor. An argument might be made to bring back Owen and Bail or Baby Luke and Leia but otherwise there is no reason for any of those other characters to come back apart from nostalgia baiting. We almost got Han in ROTS which would have neen even more embarrassing than Chewbacca.
>>
>>
>>
>>
It really is impressive that, aside from the lightning in a bottle that was Mando S1, Disney has managed to completely destroy one of the biggest and most influential multimedia franchises in history inside of ten years. Almost no one gives a shit about Star Wars anymore.
>>
>>
>>219786152
The droids are intrinsic to Star Wars, the OT is seen through their eyes and are both owned by the Skywalker family going back to when Anakin and Padme first meet. Chewbacca I can live with too, he's only there for one movie and seeing Wookies fighting in the war is 100% a good idea. It also fits well that Obi Wan meets Han through Chewie in Mos Eisley since they might have already known each other. I always thought the clones in the Clone War turning out to be thousands of Boba Fetts was pretty retarded though.

Doctor Who has not been culturally relevant in over a decade. The last season had the lowest ratings ever but they still dwarfed Starfleet Academy.
God imagine telling your 10 year old self that all your favorite sci-fi and fantasy series will be getting big budget TV shows but they’ll all be terrible.
>>
>>
>>219781348
The glut of really bad streaming tv shows certainly didn't help, notice Mando got bad around the time KK decided she needed to get more involved
Same thing happened with Star Trek, a glut of shows with a few diamonds in the rough except those tried being Tumblr edgy with gore and swearing
>>

George made SW for a young audience, the kind he remembered being while watching Flash Gordon on Saturday mornings. He tried to buy the rights to FG but couldn't get it so came up with Star Wars. He knew exactly what he was making and who it was for. The prequel hysteria came from pathetic grown ass men with no self awareness. Disney seems to think those are the target audience.

They had Star Wars fans back on board for maybe a year with this character before they fired Gina Carano for saying "Political division is bad" and Pedro Pascal started having online shitfights with YouTubers.

>The droids are intrinsic to Star Wars
They aren't. It's one hell of a contrivance that the two droids that end up with the death Star plans also happened to be on adventures with the rest of the casy during the rise of the empire. It's even more of a contrivance that Anakin built him. And doubly so that R2 didn't tell anyone about literally everything he knew.

Low stakes episodic storytelling is what was fun about the Mandalorian in the first place. The quality went off a cliff once every other episode became a trailer for a new Filoni cinematic universe show.

It's painfully obvious that there's no compelling story. I'd hazard a guess that they took the plotline for an episode proposed for s4, added in some elements from other episodes, and then padded it out.
The entire film is just disney trying to use the supposed goodwill from The Mandalorian to relaunch the star wars films. That's it.
"Hey you know that tv show you love?! Well it's also a film that you can pay to watch in cinemas!"
That it's tracking so low and they haven't put out any trailers showcasing the 'surprise' cameos means that they're probably not in there. You'll get Ahsoka, one or two of the Rebels retards, and that's it. No Luke.
>>
The backhalf of season 2 and Disney's shameless in-show advertisement of forty different spin offs completely killed it for me. Never even bothered with season 3, never watched the other shit that followed after.
It's funny that the show that actually instilled some faith in the franchise for me again ended up also taking it to Funky Town.

The fact that returning characters were hollowed out shells if their former selves, having undone all the heroism they performed prior, was one of the biggest criticisms of the sequels.

bruh broadcast has been dead for about a decade. the reason they actively avoid it now is because they utterly dread nielsen ratings being able to accurately gauge viewership and for it to show simpons losing 99% of its viewership isn't just limited to that one show.
with streaming they get to pretend shit is successful, because there is no independently verifiable viewership data.

Yeah that's the problem. Why didn't R2 mention any of this pertinent information to any of the other characters in the Orignal trilogy? Surely R2 would have known who the fuck yoda was and just you know... tell Luke who they were looking for in ESB.
>the droids are the audience's avatar
They only served that purpose in A New Hope and even then that role really stops being the case by the time they meet Obi-wan. They served actually narrative purpose for the OT white being shoehorned into the PT just because they're iconic. Any other astromech droid could have taken R2's place Nd C-3P0 could literally be edited out with no changes.

Mike Stoklasa of Red Letter Media killed Star Wars.
He brainwashed people into hating the Prequels and made them threaten & bullied George Lucas into selling Star Wars to Disney. Then Mike convinced Disney to hire JJ Abrams for Star Wars (Mike Stoklasa specifically asked for Abrams to write the Star Wars movies even).
Everything wrong with Star Wars is because of Mike Stoklasa from Red Letter Media.
Mike Stoklasa deserve to be put into a brazen bull and given the most agonizing death.

I wanted a to see Luke leading a reformed (not re-formed) order of Jedi that left behind the the passionless, detached asceticism of the old order and approached the Force with a more yingyang hard/soft philosophy than the Jedi of old. I wanted to see a flourishing New Republic facing new, external threats, not a boring rehash of the same conflict we’d already seen.

Do you not remember the powerhouse disney was back in 2012 when they bought Star Wars? Pixar was still producing classics with only one real dud Card 2. Marvel had just finished phase 1 of its film which were critical and massive monetary hits. Their Animation Studio was coming off a new high with Tangled and Wreck it Ralph. I swear people forget that Disney was actually a good company in the early 2010s. I know that was a decade ago but come on.
>>

I guess there was a moment in time where there was a legit disney that could theoretically make a good star wars, but there was no way to predict that the gamer gate/woke identity politics flood gates would completely usurp everything after the sale. man we were way too optimistic at that time.

Let me try to explain things from a somewhat longer view. Yes, all the identity and trans shit infected Disney just like it infected everything else, but it didn’t substantially change Disney’s model. For basically the entirety of their existence, Disney’s modus operandi was taking faerie tales and folklore and folklore, sanitizing them for a modern audience, and giving them a healthy dusting of saccharine. The only versions of Robin Hood, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Cinderella, etc. that you likely even know are the ones that Disney told to you.
Star Wars and comics are basically just the modern equivalents of faerie tales and folklore. They alienated some of the old-school comics guys like me with their handling of the MCU, but compared to Star Wars, comics are incredibly niche. Star Wars was a true cultural phenomenon. Basically the entire world knows the story of Star Wars. Hell, it spawned its own religion. So when people fuck with it, there’s a far broader backlash. People react to it in much the same way that they would react to a “re-imagining” of Arthurian Legend where Arthur pulls the sword from the stone, then proceeds to fuck off to become a bitter old hermit, never uniting Britain and never forming his Round Table.

You’re missing the point. When you sanitize something that’s already pretty clean, you round off all the jagged edges, all the things that made it stick to begin with. That’s why the sequels have zero blood, zero sex appeal, zero soul. If you want to get into the cultural bloodstream, you have to break the skin.

it will in fact be one of the only hollywood movies people will be able to name 100+ years from now, just like elizabethan theater produced thousands of plays but a modern person has only heard of shakespeare and maybe a couple of other playwrights if you went to college. all you favorite "ips" will perish within 1-2 generations. the matrix, for example, is already gone, younger people don't know what that is. but a kid in a classroom in 2126 will have to say "george lucas made star wars" to get a passing grade in his history class.

it doesn't matter what you or anybody else thinks about them, all that matters for posterity is whether they've managed to stay alive in public consciousness, and they objectively did. you can keep typing "but i don't like them" over and over until you die and it won't change the fact that they will be remembered over all the movies you do like.

you were claiming that posterity will view george lucas through the lens of things like dave filoni being a furry and i'm telling you that's absurd because almost nobody in the world knows who dave filoni is today, let alone in a hundred years. your perspective is skewed by belonging to a particular internet niche that thrives on this kind of gossip.

>brainwashed people into hating the prequels
Thanks for the opinion zoomer. If you were alive when the prequels were released you would know that people hated them from the beginning and it just grew over time. If anything, more people like them now from nostalgia. Late night TV and SNL were already making fun of them before jewtube was even a concept.

is there any redeemable nu-star wars media outside of andor? i enjoyed that a lot. i watched rogue one after and i don't know how anyone liked that movie without having the context from andor. i was invested in those characters and absolutely nothing else.

I turned off the second he said he only hunters imperials. Fucking lightweight. Star Wars refused to have morally complex characters. It's why Boba Fett didn't do a single gangster activity in his own show. Piss water crime lord.

Rogue One is complete shit and the people who like it (nostalgia tards) are the very same that hate The Force Awakens for its Nostalgia pandering. I don't understand the cognitive dissonance someone has to display to hate the Force Awakens but still like Rogue One.

I abhor Disney Star Wars and I never watch streaming shows, but I have to admit that I LOVE the poster for Mando & Grogu. I'm a big fan of the vintage aesthetic. The poster looks like it's from the 50s or something.

They did this in order to trick you in the exact way you're describing. They know exactly what you want. But if they trick enough people that the boot comes off their throat, they'll take the whole thing right back to pic

How the fuck do you estimate a movie you can't buy tickets for yet? They just went on sale today and this article is several days old. And WHO THE FUCK even buys tickets a month in advance anymore anyway? There's no good reason to.

This poster sucks ass. How low are your standards? How many times can you feature the same characters on a poster? They had to make sure old woman actress got a spot too, great action shot of her just looking off in a direction or something.

They took Season 4 scripts and removed some filler to make it into a 2 hr 12 min movie. This decision was made during the last Hollyweirdo strike. Allegedly there were already crew rebuilding the interior Slave I set when they canned season 4, that Boba would have been in. But he got cut when it turned into a movie.
