Just finished watching Aftersun. Went into it blind and it felt slow most of the way through. Didn’t catch on until he spits at himself in the mirror.
Initially thought it was going to be a story of the daughter being abused sexually either by the father, or someone else because of his neglect.
Also assumed for most of the movie that the rave scenes were the father as a younger man and was guessing that it was where he met the mother and that the daughter was an accident from a one night stand.
Knew the hang gliders meant something but didn’t figure it out myself. It took someone pointing out that it represented the looming adulthood of the daughter.
All in all I think it was a good movie. I’d likely get more out of watching it a second time. It gave me a feeling that I’ve never had watching a movie before and didn’t feel like contrived slop.

Fight Club. Fincher's masterpiece is a masterclass of obscuring memes and even the revelations or 'twists" are done in a realistic manner, in good taste. Makes Nolan(brothers)'s shit looks like child play with their heavy cheap exposition and unrealistic animay monologuing. Fincher/Palahniuk's Fight Club is the closest anyone has ever got to in obscuring ideas/ideals/imageries/symbols, and the fucking Grandmaster Kubrick himself did it in plain sight.

If I Had Legs I Would Kick You.
Pretty kino. I was drunk though so I hope it was as good as I thought, been recommending it to people.

I wish she hadn't grown up to be a duke. It'd make sense if there were supposed to be some meaning to to like she didn't have a strong father figure in her life or something, but you know it's just because the director is a dyke.

I watched The Ear (Ucho). It was great, I am going through the 70s. The 70s were unbelievably subversive even compared to today.

Yeah. Also makes her having a kid seem forced to put her more in her father’s shoes.

The Long Walk

It was okay. Really paled when compared to the book, especially just after having finished reading it.

Some Kerry Washington movie about CIA spooks that was made for Amazon Prime, and directed by Joe Carnahan.
I found the movie underwhelming, and barely remember the ending, or even most of the film, and am disappointed that the director was the same director as for “Smokin’ Aces”. (The whole reason I watched the film). (The film was apparently called “Shadow Force”).
Kerry Washington has also done much better work.
Mark Strong was basically just playing “evil Mark Strong”.
Carnahan did better work on the “State of Affairs” TV show starring Katherine Heigl.
