I feel like since the GameCube every Zelda was basically a reaction to criticisms of the previous one.

This is pretty much an Aonuma thing. He doens't 'get' what people actually like about the games, so leans into buying full into whatever feedback he gets, and always over corrects for any given problem, when the original games were perfectly balanced and has no issues like this before hand.
