I used to play Steely Dan on repeat at my work cause we weren't allowed to play music but I figured the Dan would be so inoffensive no one would ever notice it was even playing. I was right.

I don't think anyone is gonna be too compelled about two autists telling a bunch of jazz pros to play stuff 400 times in a row. Don't get me wrong. Steely Dan rules but they're not that interesting.

I like this idea. The entire plot (tracking down the drug dealer) just goes no where and the film just sort of meanders around till it ends ...seems more realistic and in tune with Steely Dan's music.

The wiki article on drum machines lists a long history before mentioning that guy in passing, so it sounds like fanboy hyperbole.

If you consider Fagen's solo work part of Steely Dan then Royal Scam through to Nightfly might just be the strongest streak of albums of any group, ever

This. Unfortunately their story isn't very interesting. Plus musician biopics are overdone anyways. I would still love a movie that heavily relies on Steely Dan for it's soundtrack and captures their distinct cynicism/dark sarcasm
