I envision it as a 70s detective movie about a middle aged detective who lives on a house boat. The Steely Dan songs are just the soundtrack so it's not really about the band but about the VIBE their music creates.

Many series about the particulars of a profession have worked out: law, medicine, jurisprudence, obv., politics, stock trading...this would be the first series about pro musicians really going balls to the wall

>washed up detective just wants to retire and become a jazz saxophonist (deacon blues)
>has a crappy relationship with a woman who is too young for him (hey 19)
>gets hired to track down a drug dealer (kid Charlemagne)

I like this idea. The entire plot (tracking down the drug dealer) just goes no where and the film just sort of meanders around till it ends ...seems more realistic and in tune with Steely Dan's music.

This. Unfortunately their story isn't very interesting. Plus musician biopics are overdone anyways. I would still love a movie that heavily relies on Steely Dan for it's soundtrack and captures their distinct cynicism/dark sarcasm
