The official Roka birthday art (pic rel) by the Director broke the fandom's mind for a bit there. Iroha is a sinful lesbian seducer.
The fundraiser stretch goal exceeded 1680% and the management announced there will be a whole new voice drama made in celebration!
The box office exceeded 1.8 billion yen and is still climbing.
Movie screenings have added new incentives for people to go, like pre-movie chit-chats between the characters that change every week. The Reply MV also got shown after the movie for one week only.
Several doujins have been scanned and uploaded to both Dynasty-scans and e-hentai. Check 'em out.

This is a fake interview of Kaguya right before the graduation concert. It adds a lot to the context of that part of the movie.

Soo... more movie details... uhh.
How about this? I never really got why Iroha had a stronger reaction to seeing the dirty dishes than the money that was used for the food. But then I realized... Iroha would not own all this kitchen equipment, considering she hardly ever cooks for herself.
So that means kaguya bought a bunch of kitchen wares on top of all the expensive food. It's a mystery how Iroha's account didnt go into debt.

Kaguya usually wears red nail polish, but during her graduation concert she wore purple after putting on the several layered kimono... this is the same color Yachiyo wears. Basically at that point her path was already determined.

This pose Kaguya does is actually a very popular internet meme in Japan. It's based on a safety mascot, Ganba Cat. This has been used as the "Yosh!" meme for a while which is an enthusiastic call to action.

ANOTHER flower fact? Of course!
So you see, as if the bellflowers they wear werent gay enough symbolism, sunflowers, like the ones they have on their yukatas, also have special meaning, especially in numbers.
Both of them have three sunflowers each (two in front, one on the back). Three sunflowers represent a confession of love. Six sunflowers represent romantic obssession.
So each of them have 3 and together they got 6. It's absolutely insane how romantically charged every single choice about the fireworks date is.
>>
Yeah but all that irrelevant stuff aside, do you know what this scene represents?
1. Kaguya likes to touch pussy
2. Kaguya wants to own pussy
3. It foreshadows how she will get some pussy later
4. It predicts that eventually she will get an artificial body that will have one added by her scientist wife for her
Truly, the most brilliant movie of all time.

Lovely movie that leaves me wanting more. I don't think it lends itself to a sequel, though. Maybe an epilogue OVA or something would be good. It could flesh out the events of the MV a bit; it doesn't need to answer all the ontological questions, but it would be nice to have a little more clarity on which ones are worth asking. The rest of the time could be filled with scenes of domestic fluffy pancakes.
On second thought, maybe it's time for the slice of life genre to have its moment on the big screen. Give us two hours of Iroha and Kaguya just enjoying each other's company as they go about their lives.

There is that voice drama they announced and it if has anywhere near the level of care put into it that the movie has, then it will surely gives us lots of new information.
>SoL movie sequel
I dunno, I would certainly watch it, but I doubt this is ever gonna be a thing. The closest to that might be the Yuru Yuri Oomuro-ke movie that released last year. It didn't really have some goal or big plot, as expected of Yuru Yuri and it was still decently successful.
Personally I think a 20 minute OVA would be much better suited to deliver SoL content. It could still have details about the 10 year time skip or the Mount Fuji climb.

Oh damn, this is really smart. This is Kaguya watching the Artemis 2 go around the moon. CPK takes place 4 years later, so it's entirely possible that this is what gave Kaguya the idea to go to Earth eventually.
I also love how the artist uses the same exact eye shot as Iroha watching Kaguya's ship fly by.

I unironically think you can do almost any kind of AU with the CPK cast. They are just that well defined and flexible at the same time. And this is an interesting way to integrate the Kaguya myth in all kinds of scenarios.
I've especially been getting into Role Swap AUs lately, because human Kaguya meeting any kind of non-human Iroha really makes the dynamics of the story quite fresh.

Well it is Yachiyo, so she might be a bit more modest and shy. Unless you meant pre-timeskip. In which case I don't think they were really there yet. If they had gotten another month in their newlywed life it might have gotten that far though. If iroha wasn't depressed about Kaguya clearly leaving soon they could have been more lovey-dovey.

I for one would read an AU where Iroha is an overstressed JK, Kaguya is a princess from the Moon and Yachiyo is a time displaced Kaguya.
>>
>>
>>4547940
The joke is that in the AU in question, the Moon Kingdom would be an actual, physical, globally recognized polity. Kaguya would be the princess (crown-princess or otherwise) of this place and would fall in love with Iroha. Yachiyo, as mentioned, would be a time displaced Kaguya, and her sole purpose (as Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto) would be to create the Moon Kingdom so that it would eventually produce Kaguya to fall in love with Iroha.
Iroha would still be an overstressed JK, but instead of "oh shit I got myself a wife" it'd be "oh shit I got myself involved in interplanetary affairs AND a wife"

Light Novel Chapter 1:
--
I'm just grateful that this world created "Yachiyo". I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but—
I survived because of Yachiyo.
When I was cornered. When I couldn't go on. When I was stuck in the middle with nowhere to move. Yachiyo gave me wings through her songs. She told me, "You can fly too".
With this very song I'm listening to now.
"...Beloved melody, sweetest harmony, softly echoing inside… your heart still sings"
I live every day because of Yachiyo.
Watch her streams I can laugh
Listen to her songs My heart calms down
Vent in the counseling app Countless times
If she streams, I watch. If she doesn't stream, I watch old clips. On days when I don't want to eat, watching her helps me eat a little. Even without a concert ticket, I still go. I try to stand in the best spot I can manage. Just to burn the sight of her into my eyes. Then I use that image to cover over bad memories before I sleep.
On days when my legs don't want to carry me to school or work, just playing her music makes my body move on its own. She makes me feel like "living isn't so bad".
Yachiyo never blames me. She never rushes me. But she is always by my side. Sometimes she might even be kinder than real people.
If Yachiyo didn't exist… How would I keep living?
I know I have to keep living.
But—
Tears slowly welled up.
--
I feel like the movie severely understated just how much Iroha loves Yachiyo. How she is the center of her entire life.
>>
>>
>>4548647
More than anything I am impressed by Kaguya for being able to tear Iroha's heart away from this obssession and make Iroha fall for her. Even though they are the same person, to Iroha they must seem quite different. And I'm not fully convinced that it is the Kaguya-like parts of Yachiyo that attracted Iroha the most to her.
>>
>>
>>4548652
Sigh... did you even watch the movie? As if this page wasn't self-explanatory and shows off serious obssession (which obviously veers into romantic attraction), it certainly isn't hard to tell when you actually have seen the whole story play out.
>>
>>4548649
If you read the novel, it’s actually the other way around, Iroha's drawn to Yachiyo in the first place because she is Kaguya (as weird as that sounds)
I'd thought it was strange. From the very beginning.
Why was I, who had supposedly abandoned music, so drawn to her songs?
Why did her songs seep so deeply into my heart?
Why did she sing the same melody as the song I wrote?
And why did she always smile so quietly, as if she knew the fate that lay ahead?
All the "whys" converged into one, and...
"Yachiyo..."
...I was calling my goddess's name.

Ok, but... during the movie Iroha gets incredibly close to Yachiyo even before the reveal, to the point where she has her number and they can clearly hang out whenever. The novel also confirms that Iroha doesn't necessarily buy the AI backstory and would be fine if she was a person working for an organisation, a digital ghost or whatever else.

This film has such good expressions, particularly on Kaguya.
>>4548873
I think she still sees Yachiyo primarily as an unreachable star, even as they become closer. Like I can't imagine her sending Yachiyo dumb memes on Line, you know? At the very least, Yachiyo would have needed to make the first move for Iroha to think romance possible.

That much I agree with. But love isn't rational. Even if she might not consider it realistic, the close proximity would absolutely enflame her desire and wish to be with her more. So the fact that right after the concert in which Yachiyo directly flirted with her and she straight up no-sold Kaguya's approaches, she still accepted Kaguya's marriage proposal is really impressive.

Kaguya is the impressive one I mean of course. She completely took over Iroha's heart without ever compromising on her own desires. All the harsher that she then kills her own desires and accepts her fate so Iroha won't be dragged into her mess later.

Isn't it kind of absurd that there hasn't been a single scene or scenario where Kaguya goes to Iroha's part time job? Iroha goes there 5 times a week, you can't tell me Kaguya NEVER tried to follow her there and acts like a customer to be served by her.
