The color of your hair changes with age or environmental pressures and conditions. Jak went from spending his days adventuring in the sun in an open village on the coastline to being tortured and experimented on indoors, in a dystopian city, on a daily if not weekly basis for 2 years. The stress of that expercience would do horrible things to the physical apperance of a man, its a miracle hes still handsome and sane.

100%ing Jak 1 gives you the bad ending. In another timeline Jak gets bored, forgets about finding every orb (or one falls into the ocean and is lost forever), and he lives out a comfy village life having 7 kids with Keira

He was being tortured for those years... also it's inorganic how much hate Jak 2 gets now. It's a great game and very fun and difficult, I like it slightly more than the original.
Jak 3 however is a boring game with a bad story and it's so easy it almost feels insulting. The reliance on driving the buggys around a boring desert was a huge fucking mistake and they only did it because they wanted to make Jak X.
Also they refused to work with Keira's VA and limited her to a single scene where she basically tells Jak it's over between them.

Pretty much the entire online discourse for Jak 2 is
>it's a GTA clone
>sucks they tried to be GTA
>GTA3 ruined gaming, Jak 2 is proof...
>guns, cars, and edge? embarrassing, ND was really wanting to be GTA
>it sucks how you just drive around the city to missions like GTA instead of having levels like the first game
Every single game series copied GTA, but Jak 2 gets singled out as this extreme example of how to "ruin" something good by copying GTA.
>>
>>737077246
i think it was more so the torture rather than the city, he ended up being pretty chill with them
side note for all the issues with 2 and 3 I really like jak's character arc and particularly how he turned out in 3 when he mellowed out and his look peaked
precursor armor is so damn cool

Huh, I literally just never see that kind of discourse.
Touch more grass dude. Anything you get from an algorithmic feed is DESIGNED to keep you engaged so someone else can profit on your life being significantly worse.
Jak 2 is fun, probably the only example I can think of a game pivoting away from it's original gameplay loop to a new one and still being fun.
Jak 3 didn't quite get it with the vehicles but still a lot of fun.
>>
>>737080925
Actually that's a point. Could they have gone back in time at any point? It's been so long since I played this game but I feel like the common sense thing would have been finding a way to go back to their own time,
>>
>>737081435
No, Keira had put the time machine together with scrap parts (inadvertently building it for them to find in the first game) but she was missing that big gem and that time map thing that had the coordinates in it. Also she needed to get to the rift gate or whatever it was called, and that ended up being kept safely in the Metal Head nest.

Yeah they pivoted too hard from jak 2's hardest highs to 3 being way way easy
the game is also underbaked and you can tell they rushed it
that said the weapons are fucking great and just fighting metal heads and kg bots in haven ruin is still fun
3 really excelled at just being fun to play above all else
>>
>>737082164
>>737082304
I didn't found the game that easy honestly (some of the last missions can be tough like that dark titan at the ship mission or the one where you have to protect Torn's explosives).
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>737082821
I recently beat 3 and those were the ones that gave me some trouble, the dark titan was hard due to the controls more than anything and the one where you have to shoot metal heads/robots to protect Torn's explosives (its the one before you enter the metalhead tower inside their nest in the city) would have been hell if it wasnt for the checkpoint mid game, it was still tough.
I was gonna say the jeep level with Damas but that one was kinda buggy (sometimes i would explode solely for touching a wall or the energy generators despite having tons of health and when i beat the level my game froze so i had to do it again) and not that difficult.
>>
>>
>>737080512
The only thing I dislike about it is the mission checkpoints being few and far between. Normally ND were pretty damn good with checkpoints so some missions were grating when they fucked up the balancing. Something they fixed in Jak 3 so they knew there was a problem. Sucks they didn't go back and fix it but it's mostly a minor complaint.

I mean if were being technical Shadow Legacy was the last Spyro game in the main franchise from 2005 and LOS came out in 2006. A Heroes Tail was 2004. A two year gap and a completely new reboot after that is a huge thing. Jak TPL and Jak 2 also have a two year gap.

I wish they dropped more hints about the surrounding areas representing places near the first game's village. I get that Haven City built over most of it, but the outskirts should have some places at least geographically intact and similar.
But yes, probably the most memorable story moment of that game.

i'd play the shit out of a faction/rts style game with haven city/freedom league vs kg baron loyalists vs kg death bots vs wasteland bandits vs metal heads vs dark makers
R&C has always been my favorite of the ps platformers but J&D always had the more interesting world and story
>>
>>737088916
hated the Keira thing as a teen, understood it as an adult
I can suspend my disbelief for magic and dragons and shit, but the childhood friend winning is as eye-rolling a trope to me as a chosen one
I also picked up this game over something else I was looking at because I imagined if the girl I had a crush on came over my house (this was in 8th grade) I wouldn't want her watching me play some kiddy shit. God I could be retarded.

Nah that's good instinct. You instinctively knew about "ick" from ancestral blood memory.
Always try to look cool for girls you want to bang. They really do like it, ESPECIALLY if they say they don't (they're lying).

Rayman 1 is scrimblo brimblo jumping around in musical note lands, look at how smiley everyone is.
Rayman 2 is everyone is enslaved by robot pirates and the entire game is taking place in dark dank swamps and caves

PS2 games or PS3 collection?
And same thing for ALL the PS3 collections, I been picking them up over the months. How'd we lose such a damn good trifecta of Ratchet/Sly/Jak for PS2 era GOOD GAMES to be remembered?

Jak 3 was my first game for my PS2, which was also my first console. The game was so fucking hard for me, i remember losing my mind at rescue wastelanders and the following dark satellite boss fight. My dad had to help me beat it. I also didnt have a memory card for the first few weeks so i had to replay the hard ass arena stuff so i could get to the part where i could drive around in the sandshark. Also being a esl i never knew that you could heal with light jak for example. I think it took me over a year to beat the game.
Weird to have this kinda oddball game thats seen as the lesser of the franchise entries in an already spotty franchise be my childhood game. But i still love it. Jet boarding around Haven city, driving the cars around the desert for hours, fighting the endless tide of KG bots and metal heads with the guard at my side just for fun. Kino.

As a kid I was absolutely disgusted by it and I still am now. I was even one of those fags who said "open-world is the future" before I played Jak 2.
To this day it's the worst sequel I have ever played. I can't think of anything else that disappointed me harder.
>>
>>737080512
i wouldnt hate the driving so much if there was a drift button to maintain speed without sliding into a wall, and there are so many cars that you will bump a guard or your ride explodes
if there was more stuff to do in the city, it wouldnt be so bad. spiderman 2 had this dumb problem, except I would always save the random civilians for some upgrade points
and maybe the entire city didnt need to feel like a winding maze
but I like the 2000's edge and I miss it

Ps3 versions have some advantages, but also disadvantages. Notably you are forced into 16:9 aspect ratio, which just crops the screen and makes a couple sections pretty shit to play if you don’t already know what to do, because the thing you are supposed to see is off sceeen. Also a few visual effects are broken which ruins at least one cutscene (characters face textures just don’t load).
The best offical release of Jak 1 is the ps5 port. Which is just emulated Ps2 version. So it doesn’t have any of the issues of ps3 port, but does run at high resolution. But unofficial versions you can get same, or even better, results emulating it yourself on PC, or the OpenGoal version.

The PS3 remasters are worth it just for the option to play with non-inverted camera controls. I could never go back to the originals with forced inverted controls
>>737096002
The PS4 versions are literally the worst of all worlds. Not accurate, tons of framerate drops, locked 8 way movement, no inverted camera fix from the PS3 versions

The only friend Jak had after being sent into the future was Daxter, the guy who took almost 2 years to save a friend he could've saved in almost 2 weeks because he spent most of that time spewing hot air at a dingy pub.

honestly i'm kinda impressed how little dark jak features in the plot. it's a big enough deal that he's part of the logo in 2 but i don't think the characters ever really acknowledge its existence outside if mentioning that jak "has a dark side"
