>Documents sent to Insider Gaming indicate that Haven Studios' upcoming multiplayer game, 'Fairgames', will lean into the extraction shooter genre with a dedicated game mode.
>The game, which was revealed in 2023, has sparked several rumors and reports about its development troubles, notably issues with the studio's ability to find the "fun factor".
>Despite those issues, though, PlayStation has continued to invest in the game, with its next playtest scheduled for this weekend.
>One thing going for Fairgames is that the game is apparently free-to-play, relying on in-game monetization to fund future development and cover its costs.
The game modes description reads:
Break In – Find a vault code to gain access to the safe. Collect cash, upgrade your skillset, and make your play.
Drill – The vault is breached. Be the team to grab the cargo, or set up your strategy to intercept it.
Extract – The Cargo must be brought to the Extraction Site. Use the Extraction device to call your ride home. If your team fails to extract cargo, use another exit to Getaway.
Are you excited for Sony's next multiplayer shooter after Marathon?

The funniest part of Fairgames is that Jade Raymond already cashed the check and bailed before they ever put out a game besides the support work they did on Concord. Everything else is just people trying to reheat Concord memes.

What you are saying isn't entirely wrong, but there is a curve to potential ROI where cutting your losses is the better move instead of just throwing more good money after bad. They can still write it all off on taxes if it doesn't release.

Genuinely wonder did nobody ever crunch the numbers on it? Like this had fuck all market penetration at its peak.
Fortnite at least made sense as a hail mary swing.
>yeah that zombie game is dead on arrival
>fuck it this BR thing is popular
>release the first free-to-play BR on consoles
>basically conquer pop culture for the next decade
Extraction shooters never had that. Even Arc Raiders for its absolutely anomalous sales is nowhere near the player numbers it was doing even a month ago.

Modern dev cycles are too long to be truly reactive, it's all a massive gamble. They see an ascendant genre, throw hundreds of millions of dollars at yet another bloated project, and hope that the genre will be at its peak and not yet saturated by the time their turd releases years later.

At this point, I feel like Sony should just pay me to come in and kick everyone in the balls/cunt once or twice.
The results would be the same as the course they're on, and I'd be glad to do it for just $50mil.

Given that hunt showdown was dropped by crytek for not being profitable and it has 1/4th the budget and staff but the same player base as these games.
Sony are taking a huge loss just to save face on this bad investment plan. Like 6-8 million per month plus losses of hundreds of millions on the dev cost LAMO

Do you niggers even have the slightest clue what you are crying about half the time
Crytek literally decided to say "fuck this" to everything else they were doing and went all in on Hunt because it was doing good to the point where they redid the entire engine in 2024 and re-launched the game alongside that

Yeah; Fairgame$ needs to be SIE's main focus going forward. It's a guaranteed success; got a good feeling about it.

sounds pretty fun but the most important question is if it's still woke? if not I may try it since it's F2P but I need to see more first

It's absolutely mental that this game hasn't been cancelled yet. I feel like the only reason it's still alive is either hulst is too embarrassed to cancel another one of his games or it's a sacrificial lamb for AI dev experimentation.

They put the ceo of the their most boring studio in charge of everyone else. I'm pretty sure Dutch people are culturally just Germans and I can't think of anything more disastrous than putting a German in charge of creative output at any publisher when they are just tech autists who want to optimise spreadsheets and drive tractors. Crisis and killzone come from the same creatively bankrupt germoid mind.

Modern multiplayer games are basically
>literally who studio creates new genre, even though their game is unpolished
>somewhat experienced studio makes their own quick spin on the genre and takes all the bucks
>all the AAA want to get their share of cake too and pour hundreds of millions of dollars for games that are years too late to be relevant

so this means internally sony have already decided marathon is dead and they're going to force whatever this new concord is to pivot to the same genre in the hopes of picking up marathon players
how miserable it must be to be a sony studio
