The game was so shitily put together that it does weird shit that people interpret as creepy.

They were right. I'm 33 and I first played this game when I was six years old. It was my first game. I loved it, I finished it but some parts really creeped me out as a kid. To be fair, I was a little pussy kid and I never played my copy of Banjo Kazooie because it creeped the hell out of me.

I can understand that for Big Boo's, but the rest of games is all good vibes. Cozy graphics and sounds. Charming, dream-like worlds. It's all rather soothing to me.
GMod i do think they have a point about though. Being alone on an empty map while having complete control but at the same time having this paranoia about something happening without your input is very unsettling.

I couldn't play pokemon when I was 5 because going into a cave and fighting a bat scared me. Perhaps we shouldn't take the opinions of children too seriously

Well since we are sharing I never got spooked by anything in video games and I started playing at 5 years old.

I did, however, get scared in movies: when the gazelles stomp Mufasa to death and the scene where a rocket is strapped to the RC car in Toy Story.

the negative emotional aura of wet dry world is disturbing. It gets horrifying when you realize how many people died there.

I blame stupid ass .exe "creepypasta" and shitty ass conversions like e33something

He says in the video that modern games likely have the same timer issues doe

modern games fall apart after 5 hours instead of a week

Well, when I was a kid I assumed videogames and cartoons operated on logic, so I was scared of the chain chomp since it assumed it would tear mario apart, similarly, in the pokemon league episode of scyther vs bulbasaur I was scared to watch since I assumed scyther would slice bulbasaur in half. Wondering how kid me would have reacted to the mario 64 gore romhacks if he was presented with it in a believable way, lmao

did you not play the game? try playing the game

>spoiler
i'm not sure if it's just some retarded phobia i have but large bodies of water that are an unusual colour like algae blooms and sulfur lakes make me feel really uncomfortable and i think playing through rusty bucket bay as a kid started it

I didn't think SM64 was creepy but I did think it was a little lonely. It feels more sparse than later 3D Mario games

i poured soi on my nintendo 64 and mario glared at me with a realistic animal-like intent and it was then i realized that despite mario 64 being a kid's game it has very deep and mature themes

Mario 64 has that kino era aesthetic of large lonely 3D worlds instead of shoving NPCs and shit constantly down your throat in fear of you getting bored.
