I'm not nostalgic, depressed, or bitter when I say this, old games just draw me in more
I still play and have fun with new games but only old games can create that feeling of wanting to spend more time in that world and explore what it has to offer, wanting to get back to them asap, thinking about them when I'm not playing them, whereas with new ones I play them to pass time, keep up with releases, or just finish them
They just somehow believed in their own vibe much more, and had more unique ideas before genres and templates settled, which makes it easier to get invested, you can play an old sports game and encounter more interesting and memorable visuals, music, design decisions etc than a critical darling today
Post ITT if you have the same experience, old games you've been into lately, and what you like about them

I agree. Honestly the bigget reason I'm into them isn't entirely aesthetics, it's that they're much denser and simpler experiences. Lately I've been jumping back and forth between Ape Escape 2, Pac-Man Arrangement, and Puyo Puyo Sun. They're punchy and relaxed. No lengthy tutorials or movie-length cutscenes, no ugly mo-cap or bloated open worlds. You press start and the game starts.

I've been playing old GameCube/ps2 era games more now than when they released.
I have a save on gotcha force thats almost beaten the game but of course that means nothing because there are many borgs that take NG+ to get. No one ever actually mentions that the game is about collecting rare borgs even though the title makes it obvious.
Did you know many Gundam games are made on the same engine as Gotcha Force?

Currently playing for the first time or first time in a while
Shadow of Rome
Unreal Tournament 2004
Burnout 3
Condemned
It's just so nice to start up a game and see all the content is there to unlock. No bullshit tactics to force longer gameplay for metrics, no locking all the cool shit behind pay walls - just the game, all there for you to play

fuck yeah, i fucking loved gacha force. i was a little autist about gacha force in middle school. my favorite was billy. also, i loved how you could clear those optional increased difficulty hot stuff challenges instead of just losing a scripted fight

Everyone who says shit like this plays old roms for exactly 15 minutes. People like you are the ones who ruined video games, nothing you like is good at all. You only care about quirky aesthetics, you don't like a single old game that's actually good and you're never gunna try to understand. Just go to /vr/ and suck your own dick. Threads like this are depressing.
