They're fun games. Some ups and downs but good overall.
Play with original graphics.

They mostly fixed the issues that plagued MCC thanks to modders.
Too bad you need a mod for splitscreen on PC. https://github.com/wouter51/AlphaRing/releases/tag/1.3528.0.0

They're fun games. They also do some stuff with enemy placement or group makeup in some spots so it's not the same every time, I'm not sure what the rules they follow are, like if they have a few options and pick one but more games should do this.

I've always liked Halo 1 from a campaign standpoint.
2 and 3 are honestly kind of mid. Still cool co-op sci-fi shooter campaigns, but they felt like they failed to deliver on the premise and potential of the first game somehow. Just sort of meandering story that began insisting upon itself and feeling like anticlimactic filler. Not terrible, jumping around and progressing in the big maps and occasional vehicle sections with a buddy is fun. I just was bored and disappointed by the plot during 2 and 3
I hear Reach is great. Looking forward to it. The superfans used to yap about spartan lore and all kinds of shit that wasn't actually in 2 or 3 at all so idk if it's all in Reach and ODST or in some other supplemental material. 3 doesn't leave that much room for lore conversations imo.
Is ODST worth playing btw?

The promotional Iris comic for H3 is shit. Terminals written by Frank in H3 are shit. CE Anniversary looks like shit. The added Terminals are shit. Halo:Legends is shit and rips of The Animatrix. Halo 4 is shit. Halo 5: Guardians is shit. The only reason MCC is even playable today is because of two (2) people and even then MCC is still only halfway out of shit. Studio Blur cutscenes in H2 Anniversary looks like shit. Cortana in H2 Anniversary looks like shit. The added Terminals are shit in that game, too. Halo Infinite is shit. CE Unreal 5 looks like shit. Lorefags should only read Fall of Reach, Contact Harvest and Shadow of Intent (Ghosts of Onyx if they're feeling sporty) but no one needs to lorefag to enjoy Bungie's Halo. Fucking shit 343 rebranding like Facebook like we wouldn't notice. Stop making new games with the Halo logo slapped on and fix MCC!! Shit!!

Halo 1 is good, if you beat it and want more then consider downloading Ruby's mod which adds cut monsters and changes the maps a bit.
Halo 2 is fucking dogshit, I tried playing it for a friend and the AI is so bad that 1/4th of the overall deaths I took in campaign were due to retarded marines blowing me up. The voice acting is bad, the sound mizing is crap, the music ranges from meh to good, the guns/vehicles/AI are bugged as fuck.
3 is meh, better with friends.
4 is dogshit.
ODST is alright, but again it is better with friends. Play Firefight at least twice.
Reach is good, so much so that I would recommend you play only Reach and CE.

still a goated series
some of the best fps gameplay ever
instead of competing directly with the type of gameplay q3 and ut had perfected, they took the game in a different direction and nailed it first try
so much love poured into 1-3
3 is insanely good but the downfall of bungie started as its production winded down, M$ got too greedy
Reach has great mulitplayer and gameplay, but feels kidna hollow
still, 1,2,3,Reach and ODST are must plays

It depends on what you're looking for. Halo as a whole isn't a very challenging game, but it's generally pretty interesting. The mechanic of a truly varied enemy roster that actually actively tries to work together is something you still don't see in many other games, the campaign does well to sell its sense of scale and adventure, and the setting is pretty cool.
Overall, just a really solid series. Just best approached from the idea of "whoa, this is really well-made" and not "whoa, I want something really challenging," because it is a pretty laid back experience. There's just enough there to draw you in and ask you to put in effort, but not actually push you away.
Multiplayer is generally not worth it. It's a great game to play with friends, as in a similar sense to the campaign it's got just enough to ask you to work together but also just be kind of a whatever experience, so it's far better than a lot of other options if you're looking to have something to veg out and play together for a few hours while listening to music and shooting the shit. If you aren't playing with friends, it's a pretty mediocre experience, especially for Halo 1, 2, and 4. If you wanna play Halo multiplayer, I genuinely recommend either Halo Infinite or Splitgate Arena Reloaded. Both updated the gameplay in their own ways and became really good games after their shaky first year.

Most people either love or hate halo ce when playing for first time. It is certainly the most idiosyncratic halo game and I still love it in the year of our lord 2026.
Halo 2 is my personal fav. Some of the best writing in a videogame. Campaign is more bullshit on higher difficulty but absolutely doable.
Halo 3 is simply the best videogame ever made
No halo game is perfect, each one does something better than the other. People who play them for the first time are usually thrown off by the odd mechanics and game feel. Especially if they are used to other shooters.
Enemies will dodge, chase you, run to cover, and flee in response to your behavior.
The movement is floaty and has lots of momentum.
There are limited mobility mechanics aside from a very high jump.
Halo is a "sandbox shooter" so combine weapons and strategies for different scenarios and dont fall in love with a single weapon. Even then there are workhorse guns that can get you through most encounters.
Dont peek out from behind cover, the game will slow to a snail's pace.
Have fun
