1v1 with a Garg who wins? I always assumed it would be purely matter of it the strider had time to use its warp cannon. Otherwise the Garg would pick it apart like a hungry lobster

The explanation for the strider kind of erodes the mystery imo. For the longest time I thought the Strider was a proper alien species that is mangled beyond what's biologically possible by the Combine. As it turns out they're merely a synthetic copy re-designed from the original species.

Gargantua:
>Flamethrower hands and shockwave likely ineffective from ground level.
>Has similar speed and the brute force advantage, being several times larger than DOG who was able to physically incapacitate and kill it by knocking its legs over.
>Is bulletproof, which likely includes the Strider's pulse machine gun, but it definitely cannot survive its warp cannon.
Strider:
>Has the height advantage against both of the Gargantua's ranged attacks.
>It's machine gun would likely be ineffective, but its warp cannon would be an instant-win option.
>The power balance changes drastically if the Garg manages to get in melee range however.
>The Gargantua's weaknesses are electricity, energy weapons, and explosives weapons, but there hasn't been a situation where it would be struck with the leg of a strider itself.
>However, by the time it even raises a leg to do so, the Garg could've already knocked over its other leg and knock it down to burn it or physically smash its body.
Conclusion: Strider's range advantage and warp cannon make it more likely to win by default, as the Gargantua would require significant cover and environmental advantages to approach the Strider safely enough to knock it down

One of the neat things about HL:Alyx were the times you went into areas which had been infested with Xen shit. Outside of the Combine held areas, most of the world had been having portal storms and alien incursions, that stuff is everywhere.
Never really saw it much in HL2, beyond the Antlions.
I hope we see more of that in the next game. I wonder if there's Gargantuas and stuff out in the wild still.

Guess the Combine has pacified the flora stuff. There's been a fan theory recently that the brown radiated goop in the HL2 games was made from all the Xen stuff being liquified by Antlion acid as part of Combine decontamination effort. That sounds kinda neat actually.
