Love that game. Plot's totally garbage and the level to level balance was iffy, but I really dig the "super unite in a larger battle" thing the game was going for. Only other game I've played that filled that niche was the 2002 reboot of Defender, though that was a lot less tactical and more action oriented.
I've heard Battle Zone does something similar as well, but I never played that one.

When I make a BEA thread the only replies I get are my own. You've achieved something great here OP
Game had such a cool idea that very few devs have ever attempted. I guess it's too gamey for video games these days but I'd love another game like it

For sure. And with modern tech you could easily have two huge AI controlled factions going at it around you instead of the allied faction being mostly braindead to facilitate player actions. You could even have levels with both factions hostile to the player and let your actions shape how their war goes.
I've seen some indie games that try to do a dual mode RTS and FPS but I don't think the RTS mode is necessary at all and would ruin the illusion that Aquila tries to create.

I would reply if I saw them, but this is the first one I see on this board.
In any case probably never getting a sequel but Project Wingman's mode where you can buy units to support you is as close as you get I guess.

Yeah probably not. It was put on steam by someone called Ziggurat interactive who I assume owns the rights but hasn't shown any interested in publishing a sequel. Maybe if a dev approached them with a pitch there'd at least be more of a chance than if the rights were owned by one of the mega corps who sit on IPs until the end of time out of spite

The boltgun devs did a starship troopers game called ultimate bug hunt or something. I only played the demo map but it also put the player in a big battle between two factions. Your allied soldiers weren't very helpful but they were there in big numbers. That might scratch an itch

I was actually working on a spiritual sequel but ended up deciding to opt for something simpler instead of making an objectively inferior version 20+ years later. I'll come back to it if my first game is enough of a success that I can come back to it with more experience and money.

Damn forgot the last bit part:

You too huh? Funnily enough it's actually on the easy end, being a vehicle combat game with no humanoids, no need for much voice acting/cutscenes, etc but it's still a herculean task for a single developer.
