On an Ace Combat-Nanoha timeline, Belkans invent magical girls, conquer the entire Strangereal and call it all Greater Belka, engage in several centuries of unrestrained PROGRESS, make Strangereal utterly uninhabitable in the process due to pollution, and fuck off to claim more clay for Belka in other worlds they get their shit kicked in and scatter all across the worlds with no permanent homeworld

Don't come at me for this, but I think Maverick actually helped them in some way. I mean, just look at the trailer with all the cockpit shots and the callsigns on their helmets. Just add some Strangereal autism to that formula, and you have a decent Ace Combat game in the oven. Not that Project Aces aren't competent enough to make a great story on their own, but I'm sure the movie inspired them in some way. The movie was a hit and showed them that there's still some mainstream appeal to fighter jets. Ace Combat 7 selling really well must've helped them get some confidence back, too. Also, Ace Combat 6 didn't sell well and Assault Horizon was poorly received, so I'm sure they weren't at their best when they had to make 7 after those failures.

Here's the plot poorly translated by AI

"STORY

Nine years ago, during the series of multiple terrorist attacks known as “Four Days of Terror,” Jean Howard lost his younger brother. Now, he receives orders to reopen the investigation into that very incident.

As he conducts a thorough reinvestigation, he discovers what appears to be a fragment of a tattoo in a photograph of a certain man. However, it bears a striking resemblance to his brother’s tattoo.

Soon after, Jean receives an anonymous email claiming that his younger brother was involved in the terrorist attacks and revealing the existence of an organization known as the “Gray Man.”

At the same time, an antimatter weapon under top-secret development is stolen. Inside the research facility, investigators find the corpse of a researcher whose ten fingers have been severed, their design carved with a tattoo motif."

Apparently Belka was behind it all, again.

Ace combats story is pretty funny because individually there’s potential, but it’s insanely messy, should’ve stuck with the basic premise
>meme penal squadron becomes heroes
And you throw in the underlying plot point of
>the war is basically caused by ai trying to replicate itself
The latter plot point is really cool and actually part of 7 (it’s the final boss for fucks sake) but it goes over peoples heads because the narrative is so messy.

npc squadmates that actually do something
npc squadmates whose planes generally match yours
extra option for mid air refuelling where you actually have to connect to the hose yourself instead of getting close enough (maybe other games already did this i haven't played them all)
landing from a much farther distance away and not having everything already lined up
more carrier landings especially at night
surgical bombing runs
bonus missions where you can fly on huge bombers and you can either pilot or be the guy who spots and drops the bombs and carpet bomb stuff
bonus missions where you can fly stuff like lancers, spirits, blackjacks, and blow stuff up with cruise missiles
unironically a cosmetic system that works like a car game. pick your base camo pattern, add all the emblems, numbers, and art you want. put anime girls on your canopy if you want, just let people go crazy or as authentically autistic as they want FROM THE START

>>
>they're porting AC0 to PC and other platforms

>>
>>737155580
Ace Combat has always been niche. Every entry barely broke even. They're probably doing it slowly
>>
>>737155580
No? Each game has its own license now, especially since weapon manufacturers realized how big budget and how much money video games can make, it's why I'm curious as to how MGS4 is getting around most of its licensed shit.
>>
>>737155816
>Every entry barely broke even
That makes no goddamn sense if they were more than happy to make 3 separate games during the PS2 era and even moved to the PSP in hopes of getting some sweet handheld customers.
>>
>>737155580
You have to renew the licenses or you can't sell the games anymore. They got around it before by bundling the games with AC7's preorder so they weren't selling you the game itself, which is probably what they'll do again.

>"muh license fees"
This is peak brainlet reasoning. Aerospace companies make money through government contracts. Licenses aren't even a drop in the bucket, a single fucking plane sale is worth several times more to them than some licensing deal for a video game, model kit or whatever. Several of them don't actually charge anything (Russian companies in particular) and the ones that do are still more concerned about their own public image than making a few pennies on those kind of deals.
The biggest problem renewing those licenses has nothing to do with the fees, but the ridiculous paperwork that comes from rights being split across several companies, local laws, classified information and so on.
>>
>>737150418
I'd have also extended the timeline a bit, from weeks/months rather to a conflict that spanned years, with the meme penal squadron being unique that it's one of the few fully human squadrons while everyone else keeps replacing lost pilots with AI

so that you get a good setup of why you're important in the end, by the time it becomes clear replacing humans with AI is a bad idea, you're basically the last option left

They were fine with pennies before, you fucking moron, learn to fucking read, yes big money IS on government contracts for the real planes themselves, but video games from early PC games to now are a far more lucrative and visible media, so giving those licenses away for pennies is no longer seen as a good idea, unless you're desperate for name/model recognition hence why Russian manufacturers waived their licensing fees.

>>

>Belkans
every fucking bad thing to happen in Strangereal was caused by Belkans.
Why are they a thing? If there was a ethnostate in the modern world that build giant cannons that can bomb any country, giant space satellites that shoot lasers, and a giant airplane that bombs peacuful micro-countries. They wouldn't have any right to exist by a WIIIIDE margin
>>
>>737159173
Not just the Russians, everyone does it. The military industrial complex sees video games and movies as soft recruitment and PR. Defense contractors have a financial incentive in allowing these kinds of deals for little to no cost, which is why you can find indieslop using licensed planes. Most of the time nobody even bothers asking for permission and everything is still fine, just look at Activision telling AM General to go fuck itself.
It's a completely different situation when you compare it to other types of licensing deals, like having anything to do with car companies, especially the more autistic brands like Ferrari and Honda.
The main expenses in any kind of licensing deal related to the military are usually related to consultancy and legal review, since some companies can be very anal about accuracy or having their stuff portrayed in a negative way.

Air Combat and AC2 barely have anything in terms of story and the gameplay is very outdated, feel free to skip them unless you're curious.
I'd personally pick release order because some of the gameplay improvements make it hard to go back.
The only handheld games worth playing are Skies of Deception and Assault Horizon Legacy (remake of AC2), skip the other ones.
Assault Horizon plays like shit and it's not a real AC game, avoid at all costs. The only funny thing about it is the cringekino theme song, and you can just hear that on Youtube.
>>
>>737161373
Most of it was done locally, so there wouldn't need to be that much reengineering. But still a lot.
A lot of the hidden stuff wouldn't be all that relevant to a hacked version that presumably wouldn't be using the awful free to play mechanics anyway. You don't need to have random drops or rare missions or tournaments where the winner is just the person who played the most if there's no fuel system limiting how much you can play.
>>
>>737163449
release order puts 3 first and i would actually suggest that to be the last AC game he plays
>>
>>737163604
I don't see how that's a problem. The corporate war is completely irrelevant to everything else going on in the series other than a couple of references that nobody without prior knowledge would get either way. Also, it's very hard to find any of the PS1 games enjoyable after playing the PS2 games.
>>
>>737163825
AC2 is enjoyable. AC3 is much less fun to play though. The planes fly like shit and the level design is usually boring.
>>
>>737137671
I'm gonna replay ace combat 7 to bury my pain of being stuck on ps4/switch generation.
It's not too bad, it's a quiet life being on dead systems. And there's no games on new gen worth getting. BUT sometimes there's good shit like that or the next armored core creeping around the corner and I know I'll never be able to play them so it stings a little.
