There's tonnes of these 'simulator' games now, lots of shopkeeping games. I'm sure most of them are shit, I haven't really played any.

Asking again : Does anyone got any experience with yokes for plane sim? I'm kinda interested into buying one. I already have a high-end stick, but it feels wrong to pilot huge ass transport planes with it.

Man imagine piloting this giant thing with a small stick that's not even directly linked to anything. It must feel so weird.

Of course it works fine, but i'm still asking people who have experience with yokes about it. But i'm not sure many, if any anons around here ever used those.

>t. thousands of hours flying tubes with a twist stick
Well some people play with an xbox controller too, once again that's not the point. But clearly nobody here uses a yoke so i'll just stop asking.
>>
>>563004778
Tbh using a yoke in flightsims is already a niche on a niche, and it kind of limits you on other aircraft. Joystick is just the better choice overall unless you are building your own pure boeing/embraer/cessna kind of cockpit. Also they tend to be more expensive due to how their feedback is built into.
>>
>>563011725
>once again that's not the point.
the point is you want a yoke?
>>
>>563012107
>the point is you want a yoke?
Yes. Thats why i'm asking if anyone here has experience with those.
>>563012079
I already have a good stick, it doesn't limit me at all. Price isn't exactly a problem either. But there's a few yokes on the market and i'm not sure where i should look. Virpil has pre-orders up for theirs, perhaps i'll just wait for that. Their stuff is always top notch.
>>
>>563004778
Only experience is with pic related, but think yokes are a gimmick unless you currently or imminently plan to pilot huge ass transport planes on a regular basis.
If it's worth it to you, personally, for personal immersion, then it's worth it.
>>

How do tubeliners anons even fly? I find the idea of setting autopilot for 4 hours really fucking boring, maybe if you do VATSIM or IVAO events could spice things up with real world weather turbulence once in a while

I like that Falcon BMS has a "Bare Minimum" file for keybinds, and the list still includes a keybind for every single cockpit function, over a dozen views, a key for every individual radio command (there is radial menu), ten different ways to zoom your FOV, but leaves out really basic features like "throttle go up/down"

I don't fly airliners but I do do 4~5 hour-ish flights in things like the Beechcraft Starship; for some reason it's satisfying to let that complete in real time even if I'm only glancing at it occasionally to make sure no annunciators have lit up.

I had a Prepar3d installation in 2017, had all the sceneries installed and installation directory was nearing 400GB if I recall correctly. Took ages to pirate all of the ORBX packages.
It was looking pretty nice in some places, to be honest but ran like crap.
The new P3d versions haven't been even cracked, not sure because there isn't enough interest or if they are using a hardware dongle now or something.

It's a lazy Saturday here, anons. Decided to fuck around with setups across all the raceist sims I play, try to fix my painfully slow lap times. Also bought LMU. Running Linux so had to get a custom Proton to make it work, but I did my research before purchase, so it all went smoothly.
So! Let's talk about LMU. I just have to say, every tuber who complains about Raceroom's graphics and never mentions LMU looking worse should be shot. I actually like how Raceroom looks compared to other sims. There might not be many bells and whistles, but everything looks very high-poly and plasticy which I love. LMU is sadly just rFractor 2 with a coat of paint. Looks ok, but puddles look like a mix of gelly and mercury. Driving is great and again, tubers saying FFB is garbage should be sent to camps.
For some weird reason, when playing yesterday all cars suffered from insane understeer and now it's gone, I'm guessing it might have to do with track temps as I chose a warm sunny day. This is the sim where I'm slowest - 1:54 on Monza with the Ferrari. Pole does a 1:47. Liftoff oversteer seems to be the scary thing here, need to play with the shocks some more to dial it out. Also, fuck whoever set baseline brake pressure for every car in this game, where only GT3s have ABS.
ACC feels the most predictable, but most 'violent' to drive at the same time. I found that lowering ABS values helps with breaking a lot and every tuber that says just slam the brakes and let ABS do the work is lying - breaking on the threshold seems the most effective.
On to the big one - AMS2. I struggled with GT3s here the most. Too much oversteer, too much right foot angle control. The Merc is the worst, in slow corners, just looking at the throttle pedal funny gives you a spin. I've ended up softening the springs, loosening the rear ARB and dialing down the diff to like 45 preload and minimal clutches. Yeah, it's still my slow ass 1:52s, but I feel in control of the car, it's stable. Finally!

Grinding Monza. How the fuck to I get faster?! Late braking causes lock ups, I'd rather brake earlier and take a better line. I'm seriously considering stiffening the rear end.
>>
>>563297941
More downforce maybe?
>>
>>563298209
>More downforce
Nah, it's long straights territory, I'm loosing time on the damn chicanes, aero doesn't matter here.

What I've noticed so far is that braking late gives me a really shitty and on-razor's-edge entry. With a bit of earlier braking point, I can coast through those reliably and get better exit speeds, but overall it's still fucking slow. Compared to 100% AI, I'm like 5-7 seconds off-pace. I could probably make the car stiffer, but then I'd have to be more careful on the throttle. TC is at 5 currently. Was thinking reducing brake pressure and trying a more aggressive left foot input or fucking with the brake bias.
I like how the car handles, feels planted and I can modulate my angle with the throttle in sweepers, it's just not fast enough.

No idea, new game for me, but as far as I know, only ACC has AI that use the same physics and limitations as the player. In all games, above a certain skill level they are said to use setups, whatever it means (probably some cope explanation, why the AI is way faster). Anyway, 1:54 is all I can get on Monza in LMU with the 488, this feels like more of an effort than other seems, where 1:52 is something I can do on the third lap with a basic setup. In ACC my fastest lap I think might have been around 1:47, though that might have been Imola and it probably was, since I'm more familiar with it. Speaking of...
<rant_time>
Monza fucking sucks! Who the fuck thought it's a good idea to put that shitty chicane as turn 1?! Normally the track would gradually go from the fast straight to a tighter turn; in 1960's you had all the time in the world to go from 5 gear in you Lotus deathtrap to 2nd and make the corner, but NOOOOO! We is gonna put up a big 'you no go straight' sign there, have you turn 90 degrees right, then 90 degrees left! It's a skill check, you see, can you slow down from 250kph, turn on a dime an coast through the corner while everyone else is looking at that inside line it's a black cock on a Woman's Day Disco Party?
</rant_time>
Gonna grab some food and a beer maybe and back to grinding. If I don't post today again, it means no progress has been made.

>I remember crashing a lot
It's a shit track... Kind of. It's one of those iconic tracks, that feels fun to drive at your own pace, but at the same time, has some tricky corners and that turn one chicane is brutal. You can either be conservative, consistent, but slow, or you can push it to catch up to everyone and risk crashing at every corner. Just finished 2 races against the AI at 90%. One in ACC, which got me at the same place that I qualified, which was something like 15th and the other in LMU... Qualied dead last, not even close to the next guy and during the race, first 3 laps I was kinda keeping up at least, but then the gap went to like 10 seconds and I didn't fuck up even once. On the one hand, it's soul-crushing, but on the other, from my experience with AC and iRacing, if I did a rookie online race at that pace, I'd gained one or two places at least, because at this pace, most people can't even do a clean lap.
Going to sleep on it, maybe leave grinding and setups for now and just do 911 cup cars at Watkins Glen in AMS2 once I've had some coffee.

Went back to ACC, way more fun without any effort. Went from 15th to 7th during a 15 minutes race. Pic-rel; light blue car is me overtaking the other dude on the final corner. Didn't fuck with the setup this time, just reduced the fuel. Have a good night everyone.
>>
>>563332572
When I first turned on the autopilot on this flight it wanted to pitch sharply down for some reason when I was expecting it to climb to the altitude set on the altitude bug; not sure what happened there; ended up just pushing Alt to get it to take the current altitude and after that it was fine
But nothing specifically related to pitch trim
>>
>>
>>563334868
Strange. I feel there's something wrong with pitch on that plane and it's way more painful to hand-fly than it should but I have a hard time pinpointing it.

Can't shave the impression that Blacksquare planes are made to be flown on autopilot.

Is that the Blackbird Zero? How is it?
>>
>>563395223
It's good, very good. Only flown for a couple hours so far but it may be the best warbird in MSFS.

It's raw and unforgiving, with the fastest startup I've ever seen and tailwheel steering which is a godsend for taildraggers. It's not as overpowered as Flyingiron Bf-109 but it's more nimble and has better handling, range and visibility. Sounds and visuals are top notch. For 20€ I'm happy with it so far.

Also Southern Turkey is a beautiful place.

"best" is subjective, if money is no object it's a full-FFB five-figure HOTAS with a VR headset on a $10k 6DOF motion rig, but if you're broke or lazy it's closer to a webcam and a 360 controller. whatever gets and keeps you flying is the best setup.

As far as I know, stock Great Battles campaigns are just randomly generated missions strung together with a UI and some persistent character stats. I'd assume Korea would be the same. It does, but it's pretty mild and arcadey. Modded helos can get quite good, and generally have superior flight models vs vanilla.
There's a rotor hitbox, as well as hitboxes for fuel, engine, antitorque, etc, you take pretty realistic damage from ground fire and have to either hop out and repair with a wrench or RTB for more serious stuff.
You can't mast bump, you can't over-torque, there's no rotor stress, there's no autorotation... it's definitely an arcade flight model, but loading up a bunch of crayon-eating mouthbreathers and shooting the shit with them enroute to an LZ isn't something you can do in MSFS or DCS.

Enfusion / Reforger Tools are the future of the franchise and blueprint for A4, but limited in many ways compared to A3 Zeus. The modding scene overall is much more fleshed out in A3 than Reforger, it's a fully mature ecosystem. Lots of vets and milsim boomers still prefer A3 so it's not completely dead, but expect a steep learning/skill curve in MP.
>>563517935
Lots of popular modes are [current year] conflict which can attract /pol/ types and derail threads, and some of the best A3 mods are scifi and fantasy slop like Warhammer, Star Wars, Halo, and other shit that doesn't really belong anywhere near /simg/ even if the arma general is dead
>>
>>563521897
>Lots of popular modes are [current year] conflict which can attract /pol/ types and derail threads
People already post news articles because they have the words plane and bomb in them. The reason Arma doesn't belong here is because this is the vehicle sim general and Arma had their own active general. Exceptions are made for hunting games and the occasional oddity like that nuclear reactor sim. Things are different now and it's clear that mods don't care to enforce rules for generals anymore.
>>563515065
Simsfag doesn't want to discuss the sims, he's just spamming because he's mad that truck sim general is listed in the OP.

I've not used W*nw*ng sticks and throttles, but I do have the original flight panels they made and the quality is fine but not outstanding, and not as good as either the VKB Gunfighter or Virpil kit I've got. I'm fortunate enough to have never needed to deal with their support myself, but based on the horror stories and the quality of the stuff I have I don't intend to get anything else from them. Their main niche is if you're desperate for F-15/16/18 replica kit that's marginally better than Thrustmaster, although even then you're probably better off putting a Thrustmaster grip on a Virpil base.

Virpil's stuff is very good but I'd personally rate VKB higher. I had a CM2 grip and base but I eventually replaced it with a Gunfighter MCGU because I hated the ungated hats Virpil use. I'll second Virpil's support being excellent as my CM2 base originally shipped with dodgy cams and they sorted the issue quickly. I can't say anything about VKB's support as I've never had any issues but they are supposedly very good as well.

Best bet is just to use SH3/4 and play with the the type II. The WW1 mod seems to be dead in the water.
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=250525&page=27

A mini campaign where you use the type II for harbor raiding would have been way easier for someone to make then try and create a WW1 mega mod. I dont know why no one ever did that

Is there any point to airships when there's no real weather? You can pilot a zeppelin straight into a hurricane and it won't feel any stronger than a wet fart.

funny, recently I got curious how ww1 sub warfare was different from ww2 and looked it up, didn't come up with much except for something about early subs using steam or kerosene instead of diesel
ig torpedoes weren't as advanced and maybe depth charges weren't a thing at first?

While modded SH3 is still the Benchmark, I wonder why people seem to ignore that new(er) Uboat game thats simply called Uboat. I personally like it a lot, but I noticed a bunch of "hardcore sim" youtubers seething quite a bit about it as not being "hardcore" enough.

I think they generally surfaced and used the deck guns, then switched to torpedos once the merchant ships started being armed.
>>
>>563783120
Depth charges were first used in 1916 but weren't actually carried in quantity by any ship till 1917, and were of very limited effectiveness compared to their WWII counterparts. The main weapon used against submerged submarines were modified trawlers trailing chain nets, which would either snag and drag the sub to the surface (where it would be destroyed by conventional gunfire) or tangle and destroy its engines. As far as detecting subs went, the first practical hydrophone was deployed in 1916, before that sub hunters were limited to patrolling patterns over suspected sub routes and hoping to get lucky.

From the sub's perspective, torpedoes generally played a secondary role to the sub's deck gun. Torpedoes did exist but they were very unreliable and submarines could only carry a very small number of tubes, they mainly served to ward off sub hunters rather than to sink merchant shipping. Until the Type UB III was introduced in 1917 subs were generally restricted to the channel and coastal waters around England (which made the 'just sail around until you get lucky' hunting tactic at least somewhat viable), being unsuitable for true oceangoing patrols for a number of reasons. Again practical hydrophones were introduced late in the war and I don't think they actually made it onto any submarines before the end, so hunting for targets was pretty much entirely visual.

There's enough mods that I think they're on par. It's not like subfags are playing unmodded SH III. My biggest issue with uboat is a lack of enemy ship/convoy variety in uboat. Things definitely start to feel samey after a while.

shame we can't just duplicate the player avatar into the other seat, there's more variety on those

Or have custom ones like in 2020. I wouldn't mind having a cat napping on the copilot seat.

Uboat is a sub/ crew sim, not a simulation of the battle of the Atlantic

It's like the equivalent of WW2 DCS, there not much going outside of the vehicle itself

>doubt airships fly in strong wind
That's the problem, MSFS doesn't do strong wind or updrafts that well, so one of your main hazards as an airship isn't even modeled in the sim. Surface wind speeds below 1000' AGL are also half as fast as they should be.
Winds work well enough for cross-country flight in gliders, so you could probably cross the Atlantic in a zeppelin.
>>
>>563837726
does that mean XP12 or DCS would be a better sim for zeppelins?
>>
>>563837726
>Surface wind speeds below 1000' AGL are also half as fast as they should be.
I think that's true for weather presets but not for live weather
There's a bunch of odd differences between how live weather and presets work

They also said they can't work on severe weather right now because it isn't thunderstorm season in Europe, so it's fair to assume most of what they claim about the weather system is empty corporate bullshit.
