I'm in Diamond 2 and still frequently getting matched with absolute retards. Like full blown, Onion Knight picking PvP fights at level 3, genuinely does not understand the game retarded. Ranked points are entirely made up, just hit the queue button and you will climb. This of course means that when I eventually hit Omega it will be meaningless and that I will be forced to suffer too many low quality, unfun matches which in turn mean the game is bad, which sucks. I wanted the game to be good and fun.

This is a big thing about a lot of older FF story beats, is that the games show and don't tell. Cid watches Tellah go down a path of self-destructive vengeance for the sake of his daughter. Despite any abrasiveness between them, Cid feels closer to Tellah in this moment than any of the other characters because he, too, is an old man with a daughter. He's the only one who truly understands the feelings of obligation that lead Tellah down his path.

this. I'm pretty sure Cid specifically mentions Tellah's daughter in this scene, and it serves as decent foreshadowing for his would-be sacrifice. FFV dabbles in a similar message during Galuf's final fight. Exdeath can't grasp how powerful Galuf's hatred must be for him to be able to still stand and fight, because he doesn't understand it isn't hatred, but love. Themes like this are fairly evergreen in Japanese childrens' media.

Anyway, the introduced a paid gem cap that made it so that JP whales literally couldn't spend any more money on the game since they were already at the paid gem cap because OO was too generous and the game used free gems before paid gems, and they literally couldn't use enough gems to get to their paid gems to even be able to buy more, so they quit. After that, JP revenue declined to the point that GL revenue towards the end of OO's life was 2-3x higher than JP revenue, and it was still only $500k/mo. By the time GL god the "paid gem cap" they had developed a solution that made it so that whales could still buy things, and I believe they implemented it in JP as well, but the damage was already done. Why an insanely generous gacha game chose to add a paid gem cap that made it so that whales literally couldn't buy anything because the game was too generous doesn't make any sense at all though, except as an act of mercy.

So they let it run for an even 7 years, beginning in February and ending in February. Plus, Team Ninja had that Atelier game coming out, so I think their gacha team went to go do that instead. It was probably Team Ninja that pulled the plug, but the writing was on the walls for a while, pretty much ever since the retarded paid gem cap that made it so that whales couldn't buy anything because the game was just too generous to be able to 1) spend all your free gems, and then 2) spend your paid gems.

This, but I think one of the most underrated parts of FFV is how good the equipment is. I think it's the first time in the series where armor, weapons, and accessories have such good secondary effects that they're legitimately fun and useful to hold onto and swap around. The way equipment is spread across every job also makes things more fun and interesting, and makes it more fun to play with freelancer in the end game.

I think my only genuine criticism of balance for the game is red mages. They're cool, but they also kinda suck, which goes hand-in-hand with being a "jack of all trades" sort of class, but I think they could really have used some buffing. People commonly say that dualcasting should be innate to them, but I disagree. This is how you make red mages awesome:

And there you go. They get two ways to offset their physical frailty, as well as a handful of better utility spells, but still don't offer the same raw power as dedicated mages or combat classes.

Get them at chokepoints and fire from behind walls, it's slow but so are the player characters. Even if you force them to burn a UR to invuln through it, it's already a win.
