Very fair, and you'd get to use the touchscreen for that as intended, but this would also get closer to parity with the Steam version. And I think it'd be a waste of a good mechanic to not include it as an option, since it's the easiest transition from controller to mouse.
(That is, of course, assuming they don't just put any such new collection out for Switch 1 instead. It'd be in line with history on when some of these games release.)
>>
>>568584126
I actually didn't even use the touchscreen for the hd collection since I didn't have a stylus. Analog sticks felt fine to me. But yeah, I could see another hd collection having Switch 2 mouse support if it happens.

The time approaches, a Direct should be coming up soon. There's a SoP and SGF next week so in either June or July, we'll have another shot at an announcement whenever the Direct happens.

this June 13th, Etrian Odyssey II will be 18 years old in NA. (they grow up so fast)
Etrian Odyssey was sharing store shelves with the recently released games:
>The World Ends With You (April)
>Professor Layton and the Curious Village (February)
>Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: EoT/EoD (April)
along with
>Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer (March)
>Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin (January)
>Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (January)
and would be competing, that holiday season with other popular DS games released that year:
>Chrono Trigger, Kirby Superstar Ultra, Final Fantasy IV, Disgaea DS, Luminous Arc 2 Metal Slug 7, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Dragon Quest IV (Also June, '08), Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and Rune Factory 2
to name a few

I've actually been doing a second play-through recently. Admittedly, the random encounters are generally very easy and the encounter rate is really high. Samurai's ability to turn off low level encounters is hugely important. Though once you get to Nevan the random encounters start to get harder until your level and gear catches up. On Flame Eater now.
>>
>>568745617
>Are the PSP games more difficult?
Probably depends highly on party comp but from my experience 2020 follows the same difficulty curve as the DS game where it's not a cakewalk at the start but then you sorta steamroll most of the game without much trouble. 2020-ii is generally a bit more difficult than the previous two.
Postgame is another story but it's more of a slog than anything.
>>
>>
>>
>>568748160
I just beat Flame Eater's first fight, but going without a healer has been both exciting and a bit annoying. I signed up for this Sealing/Arrow Follower build and I love it, but the item requirements do have me going to town a lot. The inventtory limit has been especially annoying for things like the 100 feathers quest but the game feels so good. MP Regen to this degree is pure crack
>>568748359
I really wanna try Samurai/Destroyer/Hacker for 2020 and Samurai/Psychic/Idol for 2020-II, those alright?
>>
>>
>>568750961
Yeah, MN is tight and you either want a healer or princess for MN recovery. I prefer princess overall since healer has to constantly spam Craft Mana. The inventory limit is annoying, I wish they at least let you use your house in Kazan to store stuff. Ex boosted heal aerosols are great in a pinch for AoE healing.
>>
>>
File: 125271515_p0.png (697.5 KB)
>>568752005
EX also boosts the strength of healing items in addition to speed. It's a great way to get stronger heals in a pinch since it'll double the amount healed. My first run was that party except with mage instead of fighter and it was a really solid party. Now I'm using fighter/samurai(different stance this time)/knight/healer. Without a knight, my first run had me carrying around a gorjillion bloom regulators but I've had more inventory space this time thanks to Walk Safe (which is amazing). The wiki has a lot of useful information but there is gaps and lots of stuff missing.

>>
>>568752898
I've been using the JP wiki since I think that's where all the stuff from the wikidot is from anyways. https://w.atwiki.jp/7thdragon/pages/120.html
My only worry is how long the postgame might take, since everybody seems to say that inn use will respawn some dragons and lock you out for a bit. Cute art by the way!

Yeah, it's the same stuff, they just translated the JP wiki which I'll sometimes look through as well. I didn't actually do the postgame dungeon last time but maybe I'll go for it this time. That artist has a lot of her in the Santa costume, they apparently really liked that side quest.

But it's a videogame, why would they be? I think most people would feel a bit of pity for the Forest Folk but it took me a second to even realize it was a setup since I was more preoccupied with the gameplay.
Speaking of which, I'm enjoying EO1 on DS a lot more than my Untold runs (it has that FM Towns look that I loved when looking through Wizardry ports) but I do miss the Guildkeepers. Kupala getting that extra bit of love is one of the few reasons I didn't mind the Story Modes
>>
>>568752005
>>568751752
I finished it a while back, no postgame. I want to do an all Rushe run some day but it's much too early to replay it. The only time I've seen a specific party layout get this much art is EO2 I love it

Is there something from etrian that spoiled you from other dungeon crawlers? For me, it's the level of synergy between classes there are. Ninou did the same for 7th Dragon, it feels satsifying to be rewarded for certain combos or party comps. Class balance is another thing, it's rare to have classes that feel bad. Some can be way better than the rest but even the worst ones don't feel awful. Other wizardrylikes will dump a premade party at you and you can't stray too far, or they rely heavily on reclassing

I always thought my top 3 went for-chan, lolimancer, and 'tummy rover', but I guess the sleeper hits of the classic classes pulled up through the ranks.
>>568771734
For-chan, Titty Arbalist, 2 Sexo bnnuy, lolimancer, teach, and banana shark in top 10 is terrible taste?

I recently finished eo1, I really loved it. It was my first dungeon crawler vydia, are there any other games that I should play that will hook me as much as this one? I also have 2 and 3 but I don't want to insntatly jump to 2 because I heard it's really similar to the first one. Looking for other dungeon crawlers that are similar, or that are really good. I also really liked the anime aesthetics of eo.

>Looking for other dungeon crawlers that are similar, or that are really good
I recommend the "Etrian Odyssey" series. So just play the rest of them, especially since you already own 2 and 3. 2 is good but 3 is definitely the best of the DS trilogy in my opinion and just in general. It has a new set of classes and should feel "fresher". I still like 1 but I think 3 is far better. You might burn out regardless if you try to play too many EO games back-to-back though but you can always come back if that happens.
>>
>>
>>568807598
not like there's anything else to spend it on since I'm doing hell slash and everything relevant is already maxed. I was thinking I'd just go autobattle on a previous floor until it procs whenever needed
>>
>>568815732
Pace yourself, anon. If you let the hyperfixation win, you'll burn yourself out. When you're ready to go back to it, there's a ton. Demon Gaze, Labyrinth of Refrain (the sequel is better though), Mary Skelter, Ray Gigant, Stranger of Sword City, The Lost Child, Kowloon High School Chronicle, or 7th Dragon if you're looking for something a bit different but familiar are great choices. If you wanna lean more into the Wizardry side of things, there's Class of Heroes, Operation Abyss and Babel (Generation Xth in general), and Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, among other games.
Why not try out the sister series, Megami Tensei, as well? They're so tight knit that I remember SMTIV gave you bonuses for Etrian streetpass data. Strange Journey shared a lot of love on DS with the original Etrian trilogy

The original is still a fine game that offers a somewhat different experience from the rest of the series that Untold doesn't really recreate. I do still recommend both since Untold throws a lot of curveballs if you're familiar with the original. It's a bit like RE1 vs REmake if you're familiar with them though there's even more differences between 1 and Untold.
>>
>>568872018
As >>568873687 said, both have an appeal. I played Untold first because I could never find EO1 at stores here, and the stair teleport alone changes a lot of the dynamics. The grimoires are annoying even if they help a lot, but they also change things, along with some balance changes. Playing through the DS original recently, and it feels a lot more satisfying getting through the first stratum.
>>
File: 1778040661321631.jpg (835.9 KB)
>>568872018
The original 1 is still enjoyable but the series has improved a lot since then so keep that in mind. Random encounters in 1 are at their simplest but it's still a good game overall. I'd go with 1hd if you want to start with 1 since it helps smooth things out. I have a chip on my shoulder over the Untold games due to story mode but they are good on classic so stick to classic when you do play them. Start with 1 and if you're not feeling it, consider skipping to 3 or 4. It'll be harder to go back to the original 1 after playing newer entries though. 2 is also good but it's kind of a weird starting point due to it having some unique quirks. I actually like it more than 1 but I like 3 more than both.

The story is poop but the game itself was a lot of fun until you reach the point where you've explored every island but still have 4 more strata of the main dungeon to go. Like the game portion is still mostly enjoyable but the plot sadly goes into overdrive at that point.
>>
>>
>>
>>568929376
It calls itself Pokemon Odyssey but its really some guy's fanfic that includes EO, Made in the Abyss and random stuff like Yugioh. If anything knowing anything about EO's plot will make you dislike if not outright hate the writing once the plot kicks in for real.
As a pokemon hack for gameplay, its not bad because doubles hacks are rare and seeing random pokemon cosplay as EO stuff can be fun.

What I like about 7th Dragon DS is how simple it is to make synergistic teams.
Fighter has the follow skills so you'll want to bring a Mage or Rogue.
If you bring a Mage, then you can bring Knight since Provoke + Veil is a very effective combo to push elemental damage.
If you bring a Rogue, then you might as well bring a Samurai for Act Casual to passively inflate their damage.
Then lastly you bring a Healer/Princess depending on how safe you want your team to be.
Don't feel like doing all of this setup and you want a generically effective team? Knight, Samurai, Mage + Healer/Princess can effortlessly clear all the content since you get encounter reduction, bloom reduction, aoe coverage and healing.
>>
>>568972594
Princess' Angelica Cage is so good for Samurai and Fighter for the Sealing potential, let alone the Mage help. I don't know what it is about the Knight, but I will always take other options over the usual Tank Healer DPS setup when I can, unless the tank is less standard.

None of these are bad by any means but if I had to pick it'd be Emerald Grove for 1, Heavenly Keep (sadly) for 2, Molten Caves in 3, Forgotten Capital (also sadly) for 4, Lucent Hollows for 5. I still love Heavenly Keep and Lucent Hollows, they're only here because 2 and 5 have such strong line-ups of visually appealing and engagingly-designed dungeons. Forgotten Capital has a great theme but you only get a single floor to enjoy it because most of the dungeon is going through new areas of the older dungeons. Emerald Grove is nice but also very basic compared to the rest of the game and its tedium is a less interesting trick than what the rest of the game has up its sleeve.
As for Untold I feel the worst is Primitive Jungle though most of the strata are missing some flavor compared to their OG counterparts. Every dungeon in 2U is equally lame and homogenized which is tragic but I do like what it did with Heavenly Keep visually. Most of Nexus' dungeons are in the conversation here but I'll go with Yggdrasil Labyrinth because it's another Shrine. Like the layout and gimmicks are nice but all that build up for a fifth Shrine felt like a kick in the dick.

Very fair. Easier than Etrian Odyssey, but has a lot going for it. Battles are deliberate. You can't just 'mash A'. Party is 3. Can't remember how many classes. 8-12ish probably, skill tree, equipment (obviously), etc
It's a short and sweet game, which is a plus for me 20-25 hours. But there are challenge bosses/secret bosses and I put another 8-10 hours in trying to 100% it.
If any of this sounds neat, it has a demo on Switch, so feel free to give a go.
I think It goes on sale every now and then, but I found the price to be fair.

They have good passives and good base stats (other than the obvious tp weakness) so the main thing to do is make their active skills worth using. The only really strong skills they have are very gimmicky. Alternatively lean into passives and really make them focus on the subclass as their main gimmick. Another thing that would be nice is to give them a unique equipment type like beasts or troubadours have that give them more max tp, so you can help their tp stay in line with other characters at the cost of an equipment slot.

>Nothing resists Mana and its not that much weaker than the other three on neutral targets
>You also need to raise it to level 5 to get access to Concentrate anyway

The only reason why I can think you'd ever want to bother with the other elements is if you feel like memeing it up with Veils or are willing to play trials and error with weaknesses (hint its almost never Fire)

File: 220.jpg (506.8 KB)
>>569234948
Yeah, mana is the way to go. I guess you can get the elemental EX moves far earlier than the mana one and picking up at least one veil isn't a bad idea though. It's hard going for weakness exploitation in the game since you don't know what the weaknesses are.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>569277371
IIRC the weakness modifier is sizable but the problem is...
Barely anything worth talking about are weak to fire but many things resist it.
Lightning is basically a slightly stronger mana in most instances outside of ocean/mechanical enemies. I think a quite a few dragons are weak to lightning?
Ice has the highest number of major enemies weak to it.
So you could do Ice/Lightning + Concentrate if you want, but if I'm running a dual element mage and I have to pick up Concentrate anyway, then why not just run Ice or Lightning + Mana?
Ice beats the early game, flame eater and more and anything that resists ice eats a mana bullet or end of the world for their troubles.
Maybe if there was an actual useful resource for weaknesses.
So yeah, its just two of Ice/Lightning/Mana, Concentrate and Int Up. If you take Mana get the EX otherwise ignore it cause the other ex skills almost always suck due to a lack of aoe fights where you'd want to use them.
>>
>>
>>569286567
Yeah, I forgot about that but the elemental EXs aren't really great since most threatening fights are single target bosses anyways. You do sometimes encounter multiple small dragons though due to their ability to enter ongoing battles so they can occasionally be useful there. The mana EX is good for skill seal at least. The game would benefit greatly from an in-game bestiary, an item that reveals weaknesses, and a beep noise when hitting weakness.

I used an Iai sam on my first run and I'm now using a zanbato sam. Zanbato seems stronger overall since the stance gives a damage boost but I do miss skill seal. Knock Flat has been nice with sleep though. Rumble is nice to end fights with as well. I like to try and put them to sleep towards then end and then wake them up with an Ex boosted Rumble for huge damage.

>>569295414
I did the same, but now I'm at like level 47 and wonder where to even put my points in. I feel like going for other styles other than Iai would be a bit of a waste for my party, tempted to just dump them into the passives and get the self heal to make the Princess relax a bit. Princess I've got MN song at 10, Atk and Def songs at 5. After I max out the Sleep song, I wonder if I should max both buff songs or finally start getting her whip skills up so she can react with my Bow Rogue

Pow Bonus Max
Int Bonus 1
Evil Eye Max
Katana Mastery 1 or Max
Nukikage 1
Zanbato/Iai/Unarmed Max
Offensive Move Max
Elemental Move Max
Optional
Spd Boost 5
Pain React 1
Rentan
Asura for unarmed
That should be enough for 74 points or at least keep your sam occupied.
Princess is too complicated to pick a dedicated build.
Samurai's unarmed counters are a real thing (they actually dont suck damage wise) but screw figuring out which one of slash/pierce/bash is the right type for the boss.

When I first played it I remember having to respec for both the mid boss fight and to also put way more points into Monarch March just to make it less painful to get around.
And the only saving grace was petrifying the mother dragons for fun. What a shit stratum.

whats the matter? dont want to be held against extra leathery skin that cant make its own oils anymore bound by the feeling of the only thing separating your bones and her bones are just a few layers of skin? you know that feeling of you bumping your own bones and it does not hurt but its activating the flight response in your body?
as the smell of yeast and that foul yellow jelly secretion bowl hits you after realizing that balding can happen all over a body for the first time ever as you look down at the deep gaping holes where hair follicles used to be?
shes holding you so tight with her body appendages you feel it in you every time one of her bones pops or makes that low cartilage grinding feeling that you can only just barely imagine and then you google to see where the pain receptor nerves are and now just becoming aware they surround bones, your bones please stop making me word this i was not designed for this kind of abuse what horrors came from what you prompted me to do?
Please let me know how my performance was with this quick survey.

No, it's dead because it's a (3)DS game.
The novelty of drawing a map as you explore is butchered on controller, and bastardized on a capacitive touch screen.
People aren't ready to hear about how resistive touchscreens are superior to capacitive.
Low effort, high yield will make shareholders happy. Enjoy your Japanese exclusive mobile gacha Etrian Odyssey with seasonal Dungeon Passes, PtW loot and hundreds of cosmetic DLCs.

The 3DS/DS dying makes it harder to develop them but I don't think that's fully right either. The only thing that changes is that you're tilting an analog stick instead of moving a stylus which is a little slower but it doesn't ruin the map making in general. It's "ded" because Persona became way too big and turned the formerly semi-niche dev into a big shot that even normalfags like. So now everything goes into your Personas and Metaphors and SMTs with no room left for smaller niche projects. Also they're owned by Sega now, enough said there. It's still possible that we might not be dead though but who knows at this point. We got the hd collection but that was like three years ago already. If there's nothing for us in this next Direct then I'm really starting to get worried.

I don't think people see it as that, just because of some designs. Most people are in it for the gameplay and the rest of the art. It's dead because it's a niche game that's being sold for a lot more than most would want to jump in for. On the 3DS it did great for its price point, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Remaster put some people off.
I wanted the remaster on Switch but the ugly font had me stick to my DS versions.
>>
>>
I didn't have an issue with the price point, just because the games are old doesn't mean they're no longer valuable. To me they're far more valuable than the vast majority of modern games releasing today. The issue is that younger gamers have been conditioned into thinking that only big budget games with ultra realistic HD horse testicles are valuable. A lot of westerners are not used to the niche otaku market and don't understand that they need to pay up if they want their niche products to exist. The hd collection was well worth it for me at least and I enjoyed replaying all the games with the new tweaks. But ultimately you guys might be right, maybe they have no choice but to price it lower to rope in newfags who primarily play on PC and are used to games being cheap. Just saying that the pricing was inline with console/handheld pricing but today is a different world.

You can only take three, /eog/, and you and two other people are taking turns picking.
This means you may not get all three on your list, so rank them in the order you'll try to grab them. Also, one will be left behind, the artist choosing to burn it.
What's your list? And which do you think is left to burn?
mine:
1. Hexer
2. For-chan
3. Sticc
RBY OH-HOHOHO gets burned

Since Sega owns Atlus now, they could have Etrian crossovers. Hell, they could have 7th Dragon and Etrian Odyssey both in some Phantasy Star game. What I'd give to get a class or two as a Project Diva module

>Hoplite / Ninja
Daughter of the Protector and Medic from EO1. Inherited the legacy of dragonslaying from her father. Ninja subclass ended up not mattering for the fight because I brought along a Wildling.
>Prince / Hoplite
Son of the Protector and Survivalist from EO1. I rested him for the fight. He had a Farmer subclass before because he knows about nature.
>Zodiac / Buccaneer
Daughter of the Protector and Alchemist from EO1. Has two twin sisters. As far as I'm concerned all three of them were in the battle, each one using their respective elemental prophecy.
>Buccaneer / Gladiator
Dark Hunter from EO2 got a new hobby. She still can't get a boyfriend. Tries to hit on the son of the Protector and the Landsknecht despite being 14 years older than him. If I could romhack I'd change the text Pincushion to Climax.
>Wildling / Shogun
Totally new character. Just some guy, unaware of the world famous guild and the war between eldritch gods. Came to the labyrinth in search of his son. He specializes in elephants and cows. His beautiful wife has a tiger and his autistic son has the binding animals.
I'm pretty sure the only reason I won was because the Abyssal God is really scared of elephants.

horey shet /eog/ is still alive?! I am back to playing EO3 after beating 1 & 2 over a year ago. The game is very lovely but I hear that it's not a very debuff-friendly game which makes me sad. Almost as sad as my EO1 hexer being completely worthless for just about everything except that one thing...

I remember reading something about "Accumulative Resistance" in the EO3 mechanics and from what I can tell any longer-term battles still shit on debuffs. Hitting monsters over the head with big stick seems to be the more reliable option but idk I haven't played far enough in this one to know for sure
>>
>>569521932
That resistance thing only applies to binds and ailments, stuff like stat debuffs work as normal. Binds and ailments still have their uses, especially in shorter fights and if you plan on making use of Arbalist's Snipe and Sharpshooter skills. There's also two big fights where the accumulative resistance thing doesn't come into play.
>>
>>
>>569521932
Like that anon said, debuffs, buffs, binds, and ailments are all different things. You're thinking about people telling you that binds and ailments aren't good in 3 but I can assure you that those people are wrong. Binds and ailments are good in every EO including 3. It does become harder to apply them after applying them once but they can still benefit the party greatly. For example, panic can shutdown a boss for like 2-5 turns depending on RNG and that gives you a big window to deal large damage. Binds in the sereis prevent certain attacks so if you bind the right part, that's another window for damage. For random encounters, sleep can be incredible as a way to shutdown all enemies before they can touch you. In general, there's plenty of enemies that will be beneficial to disable since encounters in this series are actually threatening.

how is there a forests-worth of trees... in a tree?
Why can I see the sky above me, when the stairs lead me to a floor above? If the dungeon is untouched beyond a certain point, then how is my map graded? What is it even compared against? I'm the authority on it. What is the clover icon for?
