I feel like in 6 months when this thread dies, the OP should have Strimtom's new player builds rather than the official forum link. While not perfect, they're a lot better than sending someone brand new to the official DDO forums, which are almost entirely optimized builds by 20 year players that involve things not available to f2p newbies

Just dinged 30 on 1st life. What filigree sets are good if I'm a pala and just want to slap shit with my big sword?
The perma haste from celerity looks nice and I already got rare reflex and rare dodge, but the only other part that would benefit me is wis and that's a raid drop so fat chance I'll get that any time soon.
Also, does filigrees have to be slotted in the same item to get set bonus or could I split a 4set between weapon and artifact and still get 4set bonus? The wiki isn't really clear on this.
>>
>>
>>2342057
Intredasting. Strictly doing gen1, so I figure something like 3part Celerity and 4part One Against Many + that electro is something to work towards. Maybe swap One for Beast Mantle or 4part Long Shadow, but I don't know if imbue dice are worth prioritizing.
Going to take a while regardless, because I haven't picked up Voice of the Master yet and I only just unlocked the 2nd slot. Morninglord weapon, so no sparks.

If I didn't have a greater tome of heroic learning, I'm not even certain I would have gotten a single level. SSG really do be slimy like that, yet another seemingly necessary QOL cash shop feature for the books.

I have a point in Law of the Divine. If I take the Embodiment of Law feat, will I need to reset my destiny points to get the full effect of LotD or will it recognize that I now have the feat and give me the bonus effect without needing a respecc?

Technically.
I'm trying to figure out a gear set that doesn't require raiding and covers the basic affixes (deathblock, featherfall, jump). Ideally without having to rely on hermias cloak or having to level cannith.

Kinda stopped playing DDO in favor of LOTRO. After finishing Mists of Ravenloft every other expansion felt boring and repetitive.
Especially when you're not a VIP and you have to do a dungeon 3 times to unlock Elites. Sure, you can reincarnate and unlock them automatically, but then in the beginning you're mainly just rushing through the content to unlock Elite mode. I prefer to take things slowly and it feels like DDO is not a slow paced game.
>>
>>2354355
Yeah, it's definitely good for multiclassing but I've chosen to do every first class life as a purist, just so I can fully understand the class for future lives. Thus far nothing has come close to how boring barbarian is. It's not bad, it's got survivability and damage, but it's very boring.
>>2354453
Don't blame you. I'm glad they added a means to get higher difficulty unlocks without VIP -- but it's still garbage and annoying, and something that kept me from fully investing in this game for nearly two decades. I know I'll NEVER run an alt without a static leveling group, I'll just continue reincarnating as my main until I get epic, class and racial completionist, because I can't stand running dungeons on anything lower than elite (or hard for the ones with insufferable mechanics, like Protect Baudry's Interests).

Heyooo, I love finding good shit in this game. Running around in my shitty light armor as a 6 ranger, find a +3 Reinforced 53% Mithril Battle Half Plate of Deathblock, level freaking 6. 21 to 28 ac. My noob life just got so much easier.
>>
>>2354760
They should make completion partywide for "click object to complete quest" shit. I've lost count how many times I've had to rerun shit because someone didn't pay attention and ported out after the status box changed to complete.
>>
>>
>>
>>2356479
>Why would you re-run
Because I'm mostly playing with a friend who can be incredibly retarded sometimes.
>>2356559
We're halfway through the mist of ravenloft arcs currently. So far I've had to re-run 2 of them (Invitation to Dinner and Oath of Vengeance I think). I also had to re-run the second to last quest for epic Voice of the Master.
>>
>>
>>2356656
Anon... the book is click to complete quest shit. I clicked it, but my friend didn't so he couldn't advance chain before a re-run.
Turns out I probably misremembered the botched Voice of the Master quest as a second failed Ravenloft quest.
>>
>>
>>
>>2356678
>Anon... the book is click to complete quest shit.
So I was 90% sure that picking up the tome gives everyone credit, but I didn't want to call you out on it because I started second guessing myself. After doing Raven at the Door during a saga run just now I can tell you with certainty that picking up the tome gives the entire party credit, even if you're nowhere near the last room.
I'm not sure how your friend fucked up, but it wasn't from the tome. And if you've really "lost count of how many times" you've had to rerun a dungeon for shit that doesn't actually exist outside of the Catacombs, you should probably do a little more research every time your friend tells you some bs.
>>2360831
Strength of Purpose does seem really good for heroics, I'll need to look into getting those gloves. I already have fast healing 3 and ancient blessings 1 so that synergy would be dope for later lives.

-Was- canonically written as a man, but 5e changed that. It's honestly kind of surprising how much DDO takes from current DND. Does their two-decades old contract with WOTC allow them to use intellectual property freely? Or do they simply not care, considering how the current Hasbro CEO doesn't even know DDO and Neverwinter exist?

How the fuck does this work with melee. Do I need to use a weapon/slot an aug that does acid/poison to proc it or does it just proc from my normal non-acid/poison melee damage?

I played in 2009 when the game went free to play. It was my first MMO. I was very limited in what I could purchase, but I was around to heal Shroud/VOD/HOX raids on the weekends. I never reincarnated, never finished my greensteel or dragontouched crafting, and I lost interest when they raised the cap beyond 20, because there was too much to buy. I always yearned to play again.
Then came covid in 2020, and they gave away all the adventure packs for free. I nolifed DDO for a solid 3 years, building up a triple racial, triple iconic, nearly triple heroic character with 110+ reaper points. In addition, I had a geared out alt healer running weekly reaper raids and R10s on the side. I lost interest after they raised the cap beyond 30, because I had pretty much accomplished what I had set out to do: fulfill the desires of my younger self to conquer the game, and I was not interested in staying gear relevant during the slow biannual climb all the way up to 40.
Finally, in the last year or so, I have convinced a few friends to try DDO out. We're only up to level 8 in all that time, but it has been some of the best times I've ever had in the game.
I'll undoubtedly come back at level 40, and might knock out a few racial lives here and there until then. Thanks for reading my blog.

Same. I have a pretty tight nit guild so it's something, but I really wish I could get my actual friends to play. One tried it and had fun but he couldn't get past the graphics, he kept laughing every time he looked at his Dragonborn.

>I played in 2009 when the game went free to play.
That's when I started too. I'd play from time to time when I'd get a DND itch but I never got very far until last year. Currently kinda doing what you did in 2020, grinding out past lives and RP. It's a lot more fun than the traditional MMO grind for me, I've never enjoyed MMO raid end games and stuff.

Is there a set time when the daily clear bonus resets or does it follow the same 16 hour cooldown as the daily roll?
Also, fuck whoever thought up the ransack system. Instance specific non-raid loot you can't grind for is bullshit.

It's 18 hours after completion.

Yeah it's pretty retarded, especially if you're farming solo for a specific item. But don't worry! They recently added an item to reset chest ransack, all you gotta do is pre-order the collector's edition of Chill of Ravenloft!

As pala, do I prioritize smite evil charges over everything else or are the 19 you get from spec sufficient? I'm eyeing a feywild cloak, but I just realized there's another cloak with +2 smite charges. If I go for that, I'll have to cover featherfall and +jump elsewhere and there aren't really any other viable named souces of jump, outside of a shitty boe wheloon belt that requires rng.

>>2397237
On the first note Crafting covers a couple of areas, firstly in low level crafts getting you items that just don't show up yet like blindness immunity and true sight. Secondly it's great for min-maxing because named items don't cover /every/ level and farming specific named items can be a pain in the ass at times. Certain items also have an essence craftable note which is important for Runearms and the ever popular Gem of Many Facets. It's also really useful for the rare randomly dropped items that roll double augments because those can be made superior to named loot of their level. especially if it's bullshit like purple/green on a non-weapon.
As for investment the best investment you can make towards Essence crafting is dissolving randomly dropped loot when you have a full inventory, it's the fastest way to get essence. It's super fast to level as long as you have enough essence and watching out for a DDO bonus days like last weekend helps. Get ~50K essence some +25%-35% crafting boosters and a (Really cheap) crafting EXP boost and you got everything you need to hit 400 using a guide.

Can't find any relevant information in the internet, so I hope anons can help.
What kind of light armor do I wear as a rogue?
I have seen and used plenty of chainmail armor, which gives more AC, but -1 armor check penalty (how important is it?)
Or do I stick with leather armor that has no penalties but less AC?
>>
>>2442297
Just use whatever gives you better stats. The armor check penalty is pretty much nothing for light armor, and the arcane spell failure on light armor doesn't apply to rogues/arcane archers. Keep in mind that they both have a max dex bonus as well, so theoretically if you got your dex to +6 the leather would provide the same AC as the chain.
Go for the armor with the bigger number while leveling, while keeping the enhancement bonuses they provide as the more important priority.

What's the most busted class for solo play in heroic/epic? Repeating crossbow artificer with harper tree has been super smooth, I think it's the first pure class I've played where I can comfortably solo R1s without sweating.

>friend wants to resub for vip after break

Does anyone have experience with fixing this? At a glance it seems like the only solution is going to be a back-and-forth with support, which frankly shouldn't be necessary. It's like they want him to beg for the privilege of giving them money.

They give out the adventure packs for free so often that I've literally only ever had to buy one, which was Tavern Tales I think, and I'm pretty sure it was given out for free later as well. Also don't have the new Deck one but that's overpriced and with garbage drop rates.
Either way, props to your friend for wanting to financially support the game.
>>
>>2452778
I've played for ~6 months and I've yet to see anything given away beyond the annual starterpack giveaway. Closest I've seen was 3 (5?) packs that wasn't in the annual discounted to 99 each.
I'm still lacking salt marsh, vecna, myth drannor, isle of dread, tavern tales, the new ravenloft and one or two more. Plus the new dragon thing, obviously.
>>
>>2452802
Everything you listed besides Tavern Tales and Dragon Cards is an expansion, not an adventure pack you doofus.
Salt Marsh, Vecna, IoD, MD, and Chill are the "newest" expansions in that order, and the 99 point reduction only seems to apply to an expansion once it becomes older.
For instance, Feywild went to 99 points for the first time last year, so it's safe to assume that Salt Marsh will be the next to be put to 99 points during sales. As for when, who knows...
Adventure Packs, meanwhile, are constantly bundled into these mass new player coupons and there's barely any that don't make the cut, maybe Tavern Tales, the rat one in Wheelon, and the new dragon one, but those are the only ones I can think of. So having access to "all" of them while on VIP isn't really worth the price, given how easy it is to get them for free.

Feels like Archetypes come in 3 flavors.
>Hybrid: Stormsinger, Dragon Disciple, Sacred Fist, Dark Hunter
>One Trick Pony Gimmick: Wild Mage, Dark Apostate, Acolyte of the Skin
>Overpowered bullshit: Dragonlord, Arcane Tricker, Blightcaster
Classes in the third category absolutely fuck when built right.
>>
>>
>>2482210
Makes sense, I've only done Dragonlord thus far on an alt but even as a 28 point buy with shitty gear that character seems to mog half of my lives on my main haha. Looking to try Arcane Trickster here soon and eventually I'll do Blightcaster once I get my 1x class completionist done since I've already done druid.

Closest thing was the MMOdventure guild when they were running it, but the vast majority of them are gone, so nah we don't have a guild and most of us aren't new players.
Your best bet is to run every dungeon by yourself first, unfortunately DDO is a game of oldfags so you're really not gonna find new players to run content with.
>>
>>
>>
I played DDO what has to be more than a decade ago, frankly dont remember much details its mostly emotional (in a good way)
However I had some issues with the "free" to play style, like you *could* access all content in the game for free but realistically not, I think thats fair (like you get a trial run at the game and if you like it, subscribe!) but then there was also pure power items in the shop, like there was a book that gave you +2 in all attributes?
>>
>>2517534
>like there was a book that gave you +2 in all attributes?
It's worse, there's a +8 supreme ability tome now. Currently it roughly equates to $60 of in-game currency (ddo points); it occasionally drops down to like $15, but I've never been around when it does and I think it's been several years since they done it.
Tomes can still be achieved natty, though. I've been able to build up my tomes to +5 across the board just by using the shard exchange, flipping and selling items and then placing last minute bids on tomes for sale. Haven't paid a cent, and it has allowed me to put my DDO points earned through favor towards expansions, classes, and races instead.

Mechanically they look interesting at least. First Forgotten Realms race means they can level as a Sylvanus Maul build, racial AP to make permanent Enlarge for better crits/Reduce to cap out Dodge.
Just have to make sure to click on Male at character creation.

Absolutely mind numbing. This is why I make it a habit to do every life differently, This time I'm doing an ETR on an iconic Dragonlord SDK combo because I'm so overpowered that even Reaper Lamordia doesn't scare me. Next life I'm TRing at 20 as an alchemist because Alchies suck.

Yeah, the completionist mentality is kind of insane. Since starting last year I've always felt the TR train was about the journey, not the destination, where you can try out new builds and gameplay styles each life and then get minor mechanical benefits after.
Although I will agree with a major gripe of the thread I got these comments from: it doesn't really make sense why heroic completionist is only 1x classes, while racial is 3x. (15 reincarnations vs racial's 51).
