It's been a long time since i last played splatoon on the Wii U. Now i'm rediscovering the soundtrack and getting some heavy nostalgia. I remember sitting in my attic playing the 2D Jumper minigame while waiting for other players to join, the sick music jingles for every win and every loss, the squid sisters doing a little intro every time you start the game...
Entering Levels through a 3D level selection world? Giving the squids actually squid-like voices and language instead of just talking a normal human language? The crazy geeked out characters? Multiplayer and Singleplayer game in one? Fricking in-game Voting events, where the entire playerbase could vote for one team or the other? Digital hatsune-miku-style popstars, that even had real life performances? An own genre (kinda) of this rock-punk-electronic-squid-fusion soundtrack? Instead of having a basic ass menu for changing and buying characters and gear or switching game modes, they put all of that into a walkable city area? The soundtrack going classic nintendo style and intesifying the farther you go in a level?
THAT WAS SO PEAK, WHERE DID THAT PEAK GO??
maybe it's just my memories making it feel so peak
Nintendo back then was really something else than the sort of money-greedy company it is today (isn't it). That back then was an experience, not just a game. To be fair tho i haven't owned another nintendo console since the Wii U (which is luckily still alive), so i don't really know about todays nintendo game library. Also seems like the franchise might have come to an end now? they ended splatoon 3 two years ago, but so far i don't think there are any news about a splatoon for the switch 2.
God i wish there was something similar on PC, but knowing today's nintendo, they would probably cease and desist anyone trying to do something similar.
