You can throw batarangs at rockets and grab two enemies to smack them together. Enough said.

All in all Batman Returns is great

SNES, NES, SMS, GG; still gotta play the Sega CD driving game

This one is an acquired taste. It's a very one dimensional "play the one way the devs intended" game, but they really got the art and atmosphere right

I do like the game. The Jesper Kyd soundtrack is insane. The visuals are pure 'Amiga tech demo scene', and is just a barrage of every effect that Clockwork Tortoise could do on the system. It is a strange mix of 'stand n shoot' as well as a beat'em up. The bat glider section sucks. B& R for the Genesis/ MD really forces the player to use the charge blast, if you want to make it anywhere. The Konami SNES game is a much more faithful adaption of Batman The Animated series (This is the adventures of 'Batman & Robin' era). The spite scaling Sega CD driving game is also good. It also features original animated cutscenes.

> Batman (1989 movie licenses)
- NES game by Sunsoft = Great. Is a solid Ninja Gaiden-like.
- Genesis/ MD game by Sunsoft = OK, is a decent Revenge of Shinobi-like.
- GameBoy game by Sunsoft = solid for a licensed GameBoy game.
- Arcade game by Atari = I dunno, it's OK, but a bit odd.
> Batman Returns (1992 movie)
- SNES beat 'em up by Konami = Maybe the best of the bunch. But it is a little repetitive.
- Sega CD/ Mega CD version by Sega/ Malibu = The driving sections are the best part. The 2D sections are from the Genesis game, and aren't that good. Music is great.
- Sega Master System game by Sega/ Aspect = surprisingly good.
- Sega GameGear game by Sega/ Aspect = this one looks like the Master System game, but has different levels and play mechanics. Not as good. But OK.
- NES game by Konami = Maybe one of the better belt scrollers on the NES. Not bad.
- Genesis/ MD game by Sega/ Malibu = Kinda a bland 2D platformer.
- Atari Lynx game by Atari = weird beat 'em up. Looks OK for the system. Plays clunky. Hard as fuck.
> Batman Forever (1995 movie)
- Genesis and SNES games by Probe/ Acclaim = weird ass Mortal Kombat style beat 'em up/ platformer. Has a lot of good ideas, but the execution is weird. Honestly the Genesis version plays better. SNES version has loading. There is also a DOS port that has better music and graphics.
- GameBoy and GameGear by Probe/ Acclaim =
Just 8-bit versions of the 16bit games really. Kinda scaled down. The GameGear version looks better. But the GameBoy version plays better.
- Arcade beat 'em up by Iguana/ Acclaim = I dunno... this one is wacky. I could never figure out if I like it or not. I suppose it is fun with two players. Also ported to the Sega Saturn and PSX.
> Batman & Robin (1997 movie)
- 3D open world platformer by Probe/ Acclaim = plays bad. It's like an open world game with Tomb Raider-ish controls.

I really like Batman: Return of the Joker for the NES. Sunsoft still had the batman license when they made this game, and instead of waiting around for a sequel to the 1989 Burton movie, Sunsoft decided to just make their own unofficial sequel to the 1989 movie game.

The Genesis port is pretty messed up though... I always thought it visually looked bad in comparison to the NES game.

there was also an SNES port in development that was based on the Genesis game, and it looks like trash too:

The redrawn sprites and tiles just look bad. The music is weak. The NES game is pretty good.

I like how Batman Returns almost has a completely different game for each platform with virtually no overlapping. The only minor exceptions are the Sega CD game, which is technically an enhanced port of the Genesis game. But even with that one, you ca play the driving sections separately from the platforming levels in the options menu. I guess the Amiga game is the same as the Atari ST version.

Solid game up to a certain point. It gets too hard around the Riddler fight iirc. I was filtered yeah, but if you filter enough players then no one will ever talk about or give a shit about your game. The Genesis version is still at least talked about for its technical achievements. Shame since this one could have been considered one of the best Batman games pre-Arkham otherwise.

>The Jesper Kyd soundtrack is insane.
All of his soundtracks up to about '99 or so were on another level. Shame he started doing more movie-like "epic" soundtracks. They're alright for what they are, but there's still to this day literally nothing out there that sounds like his mid-90s work.

I favor the one on Famicom/NES. The music of the first couple stages sets the tone for the fun to be had. Visually strong for the hardware utilizing the colors well. Well paced for the mechanics too.

It took me a while to like it but I ended up liking it in the end. You just have to accept it's one of those learn by dying, play the one way possible games.
Riddler was tough but not as tough as having to use the grappling hook under the balloon in a later mission. That part is a real lives waster.

When it comes rushing from a side of the screen I know it's possible to avoid getting hit if you spam batarangs fast enough, however it's very risky which is why I use the capsule there
Have another. Final version of Penguin is really fidgety. I liked how they programmed him so you can't just do grab loops on him (notice how I only ever do grab, knee, grab twice in a row; it doesn't work more than twice) even though it's possible to do that on some of the other bosses

The first version of Catwoman is also protected against infinite grabs, so ironically her second fight >>12513014 is much easier
I really enjoyed learning to beat this game on a single life
