So I noticed that there is a resolution option for the "native" resolution but I can't find anything definitive about why it's not used by default? Shouldn't it be the best, it's native so it's the default that's warped by a TV into 4:3 or 16:9 right?

Is there any reason to not do native? Does it not scale as well or something?

Native 4:3 with a simple scanline shader is the way.

You really think the scan line shader adds a lot? Does it help with some graphics?

NTA, it doesn't do "a lot", but it helps to fluff up those pixels.
The offset is it will look darker than usual, so be sure to pick the right filters for your monitor's screen type.

Dont use scanline shaders for 480i content. They would be barely visible at all on a crt depending on your sharpness.

4:3 for 99.9% of games.
10:7 was added into PCSX2 as an option to accomodate specific games, like Disgaea.

you don't need a shader for ps2. just upscale to your monitor's native resolution.
