It's library is just so well rounded and diverse

I can't think of any genre where the PS1 is clearly lacking unlike any other retro console

Even stuff more closely associated with other console like Shmup for the Saturn ,well the PS1 still have a great library of shmup

No SM64 like
No OoT/MM like
No Smash like

NES, Genesis, SNES, PS2, etc etc

3D action-adventure games maybe. It really doesn't have anything with the scope of Ocarina of Time, the only one that i can think of that comes a bit close is Brightis
>>
>>12513040
>Nes, Snes, Genesis
No proper 3d games for obvious reasons

>>12513042
You don't know Soul reaver or the megaman legends game?

3D isn't a genre

>>12513040
>NES, Genesis, SNES

Lack of 3D games

>PS2

Lack of 2D games
>>
>>12513045
that's like saying the ps1 lacks virtual reality games

Enough for me as a PC-Station

how embarrassing

Thought about mentioning it, but would only make the cut if we include JP exclusive games so it's kind of a grey area. Xbox too, almost makes it but the lack of Japanese support (except fighting games) makes it fall short imo.

Yeah the PS1 is the retro console with the most PC games even above the Xbox

>saturn
No 3D platformers
>>
>>12513061
There is barely any 3D platformer game on Saturn...

FPS. The Medal of Honor games are good, obviously. A slathering of PC ports. Hardly anything most would want to play years later. More a lack of quality FPS than the quantity. The PSX library is so big that it really does have just about everything covered, even if the games it has aren't necessarily the best examples of their genre.

I prefer to play Doom PS1 or exhumed than any FPS on PS2
>>
>>12513121
How many have you played? Stuff like Timesplitters, Urban Chaos, Cold Winter, Battlefront, etc. all appeal to me more than just about anything on PS1.

>no good 3D Sonic game
No
>>
>>12513062
Like how you pretend to like the saturn?
>>
>>12513132
Well i have played the timesplitters games and it didn't really hooked me

I'm more of a boomer shooter guy to be honest
>>
>>12513036
Only ps2 can claim that. Ps1 3d games look horrible and play really clunky. Ps2 is when 3d games finally got good

No

You don't need them when you have Mr. Bones.

Do the PS2 even have a metroidvania?

I can't think of any

Or a cinema platformer like Oddworld or heart of Darkness ?

I don't think so

The PS1 could run NES and SNES games. I had a CD with a bunch of them and that was my only experience with the (S)NES catalog. Hydlide Special OST still lives rent free in my head.

>>12513157
I disagree. PS2 visuals are much better, but the PS1 had much better 3D games. Or at least, it had more good/great 3D games compared to the PS2. Especially when it comes to platformers. I can't think of a single PS2 platformer that is actually better than a PS1 predecessor in the same franchise or that is better than any of the "top 10" PS1 platformers.
