I enjoyed it but I'd still rank PS and FF higher.
Pros:
>unique bestiary
>reputation and currency management (albeit simple)
>open world that requires you use the printed map
>good presentation and soundtrack

Cons
>simplistic battle system
>grind per character
>dungeons are a bit too short compared to the original game

I disagree, it's basically Dragon Quest 1 with multiple party members. It doesn't have the depth you'd expect of an RPG with multiple party members past DQ2.
But it's a good game. Also the first console JRPG released in the west.

The Famicom version is something else however, very faithful to the computer versions but with a facelift.
The most grindy RPG I've ever played. The grind is really unreal, we're talking at least 3x the DQ1 grind.
