I took it as meaning having some important connection to the boss rather than blood relation, and that happens all the time. The first that came to mind, Persona 3 and Xenoblade 1, even have their protagonist related to the antagonist in the same way.

There's a reason why tropes are tropes. You commonly hear how people don't like it when main characters have plot armor, but they also hate when main characters die anticlimactically. There's times when writers fuckup, so the only opinion is plot armor or an anticlimactic death, and I feel like people would complain harder if the anticlimactic death is chosen in place.

George Lucas didn’t have any of that planned or written out, it was all retcon asspulls. He was only making the one movie until it ended up being wildly successful, that’s why the original version was just “Star Wars” and not “Episode 4: A New Hope”
