Thread #3965179
Thinking about getting into RuneScape since I'm a massive shut-in and need something to sink my life into.
Is it still worth starting as a complete noob in 2026? Give me some advice on what to do first and which version is better for someone who has never played before.

You should. Probably the best mmo ever made. OSRS just hit an all-time peak for concurrent players last summer or around then so you're not too late-- thats the version you go with btw, old school, that's the good one. My advice is do quests, they help get your levels up and they're charming and well written. Important to keep in mind that it's more a comfy long term goal simulator than a "yippee this is fun" kinda game, you'll be spending a lot of time grinding for xp and gear and it WILL get boring. Don't hesitate to use the wiki when you get stuck bc some of the quests have puzzle segments that are impossible to intuit and tedious to do thru trial and error. The patience required to play this game is exactly what makes it feel like an adventure if that makes sense, so don't get filtered.
It's the patrician shut-in game.

As long as you avoid the autist sub communities it’s a fun game that has a lot of interesting things to do. Long term RuneScape players are some of the most insufferable autists on the planet never trust them or let them convince you to do their stupid challenge runs where you willingly torture youself for “respect”.
