I actually like the stars but even I know that's not true.
Despite functionally cutting them off from the company (not like they had any of the things that were listed beforehand), by simply allowing them to continue existing it softens the blow enough for nobody to really care unless they were actively part of that group. It's the same reason Nijisanji kept absorbing failed branches into the main branch as they gut their support, though this case is a bit more extreme.

At this point though I wouldn't be surprised if it's all just another marketing stunt since again, they never had access to the cover resources to begin with.

Anon I have sympathy for the guys but let's be realistic the Hololive graduations in 2025 were many times worse for Cover's reputation than the Holostars budget cuts in 2026. The fans of male vtubers are kicking up a storm and making noise on Reddit/Twitter but 200,000 updoots doesn't do much good if the CCV only increases for Holostars by 2,000 (and half of those new viewers vanish after 2 weeks). Cover is bleeding money because of HoloEarth so Yagoo decided to sacrifice Holostars but that only makes a difference to unity fans. The vast majority of the Hololive fan base only cares about CGDCT content.

Cover has been shilling pedobait merch for years and the vtuber design for Shion was laser focused at lolicons. I don't blame the talents for that and it's 100% the fault of Cover because that is a management decision to boost merch sales. They did that with Gura/Shion and they are doing it again with Biboo.
