It's not an issue for anyone outside Japan but if you live there it's difficult to be even truthfully critical of companies and public figures - one of the reasons JPs sometimes come across as corpo drones in the way they speak about companies online, it's not that they are (well, some of them are) it's that they're treading on eggshells.

I can criticize a corporation all I want. I can sue a corporation if I want.
In japan you have to obey corporations. In fact corporations have a "right to profit" and anything interfering with that is illegal. Criticize a corporation who produced a shitty product? Interfering with business activities! You get sued.
The people who advance in japan are the people who are networked with the famous, established, powerful people already. Who often have family connections. Those people are given the "right to profit".

Another thing is the weird "respect culture" of Japan. Like in America, if you're talented, you can become a millionaire at age 23. You will rapidly be promoted until you're running entire divisions, or even made a vice president. Or given investment to form a startup.
But in Japan, you cannot do something like that. the only corporations people respect are the established ones run by family-name people. You sell your soul to them. Also because of "respect culture" no matter how talented you are, you are treated as worse than someone who has been with the company longer. You have to wait in line until you're an old person before you actually become a vice president or get the resources to form a startup. All the time you have to gather social capital and gather "respect" by washing the feet of people above you.

The word of sub 80 IQ monkeys from /#/ and r/kurosanji is probably not worth much. Just opening the r/kurosanji thread he linked as the source, one of the first things you'll see is the fake Salome chart from /#/ that shows the wrong debut date and skips her actual peak to make it look like she was botted for the IPO. Can't even trust them to provide the real numbers.
