Thread #1562707
Could I get some recommendations on various punching bags/speed bags that would be easy to set up in a small room? Also, what are some good brands and years for said gear? Apparently, a lot of newer everlast stuff is pretty bad and made in Chinese work shops.
(I'd ask on /fit/ but the amount of shitposting on there is wild)

If the landlord, including maybe you, doesn't want holes or permanent fixtures get a free standing heavy bag. This means you can move it out of the way if you need. You can also hang some in the door frame but this limits access to the door while it's up and reduces your maneuverability which is okay if you just want fitness by having something to punch which can get your heart rate up and will allow working on your punch and kick technique, bad for actual boxing/fighting and general footwork, but you will learn to be precise with your punches if you try getting fancy because it will damn well hurt if you punch a rigid door frame when expecting to hit a bag that will shift a little on impact.
Don't know where you are but Everlast can be good. I use an Everlast hanging water bag which has lasted, so before the newer stuff you say you've heard of. Hayabusa is good, Milliard, Century. I can't really say even if I knew your budget. I think you'd better look at recent reviews on online shopping sites and bear in mind that people give really bad ratings for even mild problems but also give overly positive ratings to things justifying their own decisions to purchase because people want to believe that they make good decisions.
Speed bags aren't my thing. All I can say there is that I don't see free standing speed bags in use very often at all. You might need to get one with a folding or retractable arm though one with adjustable height might be able to lifted up out of your way or even be unmounted if the clips allow.

Perfect, that helps a lot actually. I think the freestanding heavy bag is definitely the right choice, and having some brands to keep an eye out for will help a ton.
And yeah, just saw some discussions online of newer everlast stuff not being as well made so I figured I'd keep an eye out for some good years for their equipment online.
And around $200 is the budget. Gotta pay off some bills but after that I plan on getting one just to supplement my weight training and cardio, though it's gonna be a minute now. Wiped out on my skateboard and my right leg is sore as all get out today. Just hoping for a quick recovery time so I can get back to it, but it's sitting kettlebell workouts for me now.
Anyways, super appreciate the help. I feel a lot more equipped to make a good purchase.

That's really nice of you to say. Sad that no one else has replied and you have my amateur answer only.
I read a few recent reviews of some everlast free standing bags. Pretty bad. Nothing about the vinyl bag wearing out because they didn't last long enough to get any wear. The bad ones were all don't fill base with water it leaks or the collar was plastic and broke so the thing couldn't stand up any more. There are some plastic collars that stand up to use but you might prefer a metal collar.
If you're in an apartment think about how cheaper, lighter ones often shift around more than some of the top price ones. The impact and any spring noise probably aren't a problem but the shifting around noise and maybe if the base rocks or it falls over. Not all come with springs. Springless are more likely to tip as the bag can't move independently of the base. If you do kicks, lack of a spring is more of a problem than if you're only punching. Same thing for the base fill. Kicking a sand filled base moves a lot less than water filled and you might want to factor in the price of getting some sand. Where I live I can take small amounts of sand from the beach and the public is even encouraged to remove sand from streets and car parks because then the local authorities don't have to.
Assuming your money is US dollar you can get decent bags from big box stores for 200 or less. Century wavemaster original is at the top end of your range. Its main drawback is the size of the bag which means you won't kicking at chest and thigh height at the same time. Wavemaster cardio has a taller area, good for people who are slimmer rather than bulkier, good for middleweight, really good for welterweight and lighter. If I was going to buy another bag, I'd happily go in that direction.
Do take care while recovering. You probably know even if 99% recovered, going too hard can aggravate an injury and undo weeks and months of recovery.

Looks like Hayabusa has stopped producing punching bags (or at least, selling them in the states), and the Wavemaster Cardios are out of production as well which is a shame. I've got the keywords watched on ebay in case anyone eventually puts them up though so we'll see what happens in the meantime. I see what you mean about the Cardios though. They look like they have a really nice build and height. Also, gonna look into good spring bags. I didn't even know that was a thing to account for so I super appreciate you bringing that to my attention as that's something I would have wanted and would have no doubt found out after the fact. Thankfully noise isn't a huge deal where I live, just don't have a ton of space to work with so it's more about just having something I can throw in the middle of my room and go to town on.

I'm still pretty new to all this so I appreciate the warning all the same. Heck, after I crashed it didn't hurt all that bad just yet so I actually asked another anon if I should just workout through it. Thankfully, they advised against it cuz today when I woke up I definitely felt it. Also, it looks a lot worse than it feels so now I'm just waiting for the dull pain during movements to go back to normal then its back to full body workouts though I'll take it easy on this particular leg for a bit. Still weird actually looking forward to working out/riding.
