If it is dead then all they have done is turned off its life support machine. /r/ died in reality when it was overrun with AI requests. same girls being spammed in every single thread, it was like watching a relative slowly die of a terminal illness.
i hope to god it's actually dead!

That wasn't even possible on /r/ for several years (well, you could ask, to no avail), so those requests would overflow to here

4chan in general is clearly suffering death by a thousand cuts. It's a relic from another age. A website like this can't exist with the profile/prominence it has in an internet full of AI shit
Anyone with any brains has long since moved to the indie web, including smaller imageboards/textboards. I only come here to /wsr/ because it has enough traffic to get people to respond quickly.
And nothing of value was lost.
(Except /f/. /f/ dying is a legitimate tragedy. There was nothing quite like it anywhere on the web.)
>>
I had not visited /r/ for a while.
Were these edit threads for IRL women super busy, like the only active threads on the board?
It's not a good sign that 4chan bends the knee so quickly to this sort of thing. What does that say about the future of other boards? Are they suddenly going to ban AI now?
Remember that it was discovered during the hack, that janitors wanted an AI board, but the idea was struck down from those above them.
They could have made it a red board, allow for loli, furry, and put all the AI crap on the site in one place. Then, they could have made a sticky saying "no IRL edits". Then /r/ could have been kept alive.
But these are the same people who killed /f/ because they are too fucking lazy to improve the site and find proper solutions to fix things. Instead, they'd rather just close boards.

Contemporary /r/ was just full of 3DPD and AI shit, I don't care about its death much. They could've fixed things instead of killing the board but whatever, welcome to new 4chan. It will only get worse.

Literally nothing, look up Parents Decide Act. Everyone is fucked if that passes.

>Were these edit threads for IRL women super busy, like the only active threads on the board?
Any threads not using the words "nudify" or "wizard" (/r/ cultural phrase for people capable of using AI) would be completely ignored and pushed off page 10 in maybe 12 hours. The board was unusable garbage, nothing of value was lost
>>

>>1566019
>Were these edit threads for IRL women super busy, like the only active threads on the board?
The board was hijacked by endless AI requests, it died in spirit long before they deleted it. They could have given ai its own request board, but the janitors would have been working overtime on /r/ to remove every ai request since no one ever reads shit.
One possible solution would maybe have been to only let the OP post and image, with all responses limited to text only. Don't know if the board software can do that, but it would certainly have been a way to limit it to being just a source request board again as the only replies could be in text.

>>1566024
The archive is still up (for now), it's a pretty accurate snapshot of what the board ended up being like.
https://archiveofsins.com/r
A couple years ago there used to be a trend of requesting "bubble" edits (covering up parts of swimsuits/clothes to make it look like a censored nude, you can search it in the archive for examples) and that gradually got popular enough to push 90% of the normal source request threads off the board. Then those got replaced with nudeshop requests, then the slop-pocalypse happened and suddenly /r/ was the de facto deepfake board. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>1566027
I remember seeing a bubble thread on /b/ MAAAANY years ago. I found it hot for 1 thread and then moved on. Years later I foudn out that was the mormons doing it because their retarded ruleset allows no nudity or some shit. Like the dryhumping where thy lay naked on each other and have a pal jump on the bed to make them fuck without them doing the fucking.

A. That's not even true
B. This just shows you've been overdosing on dopamine. At this point 4chan is basically a social media skinner box but with 'likes' replaced with '(You)'s. Although it's been like that for over a decade now so IDK.

Well, yes. All of them? No. Most of them? Yeah, it seems that way. I have several imageboard lists saved somewhere but I don't really want to wade through excess gore and cheese, maybe even malware and phishing urls, to find something somewhat tolerable. I'll be forced to do it anyway if 4chan dies.

Like 95% of the population. But true.

Correct. I don't know, there's no better site that's as active as this heap of crap. It's all bad.

Most of them are ghost towns getting like 1 post a month. And the few that get some activity just aren't the same as /f/. Some that I can think of the top of my head are:
>swfchan.net
>7chan.org
>kissu.moe
>hikari3.ch
>heyuri.net
Out of these, Heyuri has the most activity, but I heard that it's run by people who got the site by flooding it with cp and then offering the original owner for them to take over the site that has been generating him problems, so I don't really go there.

Anyway, yes there are, but nothing like a dedicated fileboard like /f/ was, just stupid vichan sites that add swf to their allowed filetypes. I haven't seen one in a while, but I doubt any of those even have ruffle embeds.

Didn't e-hentai also change shit to webp?
I tried to save something there recently and its fucking WEBP. Why the fuck would they do that?
Also why would e-hentai ever allow shitty AI to clog up their servers? Site should be for real art only. Too many websites allowing AI and they are getting overloaded with too much slop that will hit on storage and server costs.

That's a perfectly valid image format here in 2026. If your image viewer doesn't support it, change image viewers. I have no idea why 4chan doesn't support it
>>
>>
>>1566088
>That's a perfectly valid image format here in 2026
No it is not. First, it's one of Google's godless abominations. Second, it's literally NOT AN IMAGE FORMAT. No, I'm not kidding you, go look up what webp actually is. It's literally just a video file with only 1 frame.
It's fucking awful at its job and there have been plenty of formats/algorithms that came both before and after it that achieve better results at lower filesizes. The ONLY reason it's achieved any sort of traction is because Google pushed it hard ~5 years ago, and because none of the actually good formats caught on and JPEG/GIF/PNG are such ancient fossils that even goddamn video formats have superseded them.
>>
>>1566085
>What type of stuff to you have?
Ancient archives, dumps of 1990s VN artwork, shitty electronic music, lots and lots and lots of long-dead pictures and memes and such... Weird software (3DNA? Turntable simulators??), drivers for hardware that hasn't been manufactured since the presidency of George W. Bush, freeware games that time has forgotten, tens of thousands of flash files, weird videos that used to float around on video sharing websites in the pre-YouTube day (anyone remember .mcf files?) and all sorts of random junk like dumb gifs, NASA raw data dumps (used to be available on their website!), loads of PDFs, mirrors of entire web 1.0 websites and long-dead forums.......
Also pornography, lots of memes/screenshots/artwork of ancient anime, Ruby scripts to extract raw data from Touhou games and other doujinshi stuff of that nature.
There's a lot here, and none of this stuff is important. *I* don't care enough to look through most of it, and I only keep it because I'm Autistic and have a hoarder's instinct when it comes to data/files.
Maybe one day, 100 or 200 years from now it will be of historical interest to some AI algorithm. Who knows.

Webp is dogshit. It compresses. Don't tell me its loseless because it every case I've seen image quality drop, even if its a little. Articifacting.
There is no need in 2026 to change this shit to compress things further. We got by in the 1990s and 2000s with jpgs and gifs and it works just fine.

Think about it anon. If you died tomorrow, all that stuff would be lost. Your contents would like get e-wasted by others. You should really look into sharing it someplace. We have lost so much of the old internet over the last 20 years. Personal websites mostly gone just replaced with shitty wikis and large scale social media. Communities from MSN and Yahoo long since shut down. Old imageboard memes and whatnot from before archives became stable. Someone out there would like appreciate what you have.

>Fuck you. E-hentai took decades worth of files that were always jpg or png and now fucked them over
Many many sites delivering webp images are storing files as jpg/png and converting the files to deliver them to you. With a bit of work you can usually pull the original file off the server. Check the page source or use Jdownloader or what have you
>>1566124
>But did they really have to webp the previews?
>They could have just left it as is.
Yes, bandwidth costs money. 99.98% of page views are people not saving images and just jerking off. If you want to save the files, they have a whole credit scheme for zip DDLs and if that's too much work the torrents are right there for anyone
>>1566125

I was not active on 4chan in the earliest years, but I assume /r/ and /wsr/ were made because there was an overflow of people asking for content on their respective boards.
Since the site culture has shifted, and its been losing visitors since 2022, is /wsr/ still needed? I mean it can still exist, but do you really think boards like /a/ or /co/ would be suddenly flooded with requests for things if they allowed them? It never made much since to me to tell people to go to a request board to ask for things, as its a random board filled with people looking for various things, not the board that is focused on the content/subject you are interested in and wanted, that would be filled with people who would likely do a better job of finding what you are looking for. /a/ for example has more eyeballs on it than here, so it would make more sense to ask for things where more people are, on /a/.
Honestly, every board should have had their own requests board as a sub-board within their board. Like a little link showing it, like the old text boards. There you could keep the requests seperate.
I assume you can make requests on all red boards now?

Quotes about the deadline:
https://www.cnn.com/2026/05/19/tech/remove-revenge-porn-legal-deadline
> President Donald Trump signed the Take It Down Act into law last year, which makes it illegal to publish online nonconsensual intimate visual depictions, real or artificially generated. But the act gave online platforms one year to create a process for removing such imagery within 48 hours of notification from users. If online platforms fail to do so, they could face civil penalties of $53,088 per violation. That one year deadline expired on Tuesday.
https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/complying-take-it-down -act
>The Federal Trade Commission enforces Section 3 of the Take It Down Act (TIDA), effective May 19, 2026. Under this section of the law, covered platforms must establish a process for victims to request the removal of intimate photos or videos shared without their consent. TIDA requires covered platforms that receive a valid request to remove the content and known identical copies within 48 hours.

/jp/ got a autosage rule earlier this year. After 14 days a thread autosages, taking away whatever interesting discussion that usually lasts for months over certain topics. Supposedly it was to combat the holoshit vtumor threads, but that's bullshit because:
(A) those threads reach ~1000 posts in a few hours and autosage very quickly
(B) they stealth bump every thread on the board so that they slide the old thread off the catalog and get the chance to post the new thread with their shit waifu in the OP image
(C) THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE GR15'd OFF TO /vt/ IN THE FIRST PLACE
The most blatant falseflagging happened right after this rule was discovered. Shit like "Hurr durr we're going away to a different board, this board is not comfy any more". /jp/ is one of the boards that have the most altchans, and all of them fucking die because /jp/ is meant to be slow and taken easy, but not TOO slow. I know this because I come from a now-dead altchan myself.
It's a real shame because /jp/ is one of the boards that has aspects of old 4chan culture just like /f/. swfchan going down would be like the burning of the Library of Alexandria. Losing /f/ is sad, but tolerable. It was just regurgitating old reposts and Forced Meme of the Week.
swfchan is on the order of something like archive.org, but with maybe 0.01% of the prominence. It hosts virtually every single Flash animation and meme of note ever made. For games we have Flashpoint, but for the stupidity of 2000s? All those ancient swfs - especially the Japanese ones? There's nothing, and there is no backup. You can't even scrape it because of the captcha.
I really hope the owner gives people some torrents to keep all that stuff floating around before the site finally croaks. Otherwise all those animations, those loops, those porn games... It will all be simply lost to time. Like tears in the rain.

>That's retarded, most of the vtuber shit is on /vt/, and that board was the hardest hit one by the hack, so that board is way down in traffic, and I assume any lingering /vt/ threads on /jp/ would also be down as well.
See for yourself >>>/jp/50966362 >>>/jp/50978969
After the autosage rule got implemented they started propping up 1 reply threads for individual characters to slide everything off the catalog. Thankfully they didn't bother doing it again after the initial week but still. Why is it that ponyshit gets GR15 but not vtumors and gachaslop? If enforcing GR15 for them means also Touhou gets hit then I'm more than happy for it.

The start of this year. Here's the earliest I can find on it https://warosu.org/jp/thread/50300104#p50536699

Well, that's bullshit, mod should have put a stop to that, if he cared.
>The start of this year.
Hmm, that's pretty shitty as some threads last a month or more.
I do wonder if this two-week autosage rule will start to come into effect on more boards, or maybe one week, to cover up the fact that 4chan is bleeding users and to give the facade that the site is still active when really it's dying.
Like right now there is a nearly 18 day thread on /co/ right now, which is insane length of time, most I have ever seen is about two weeks. If thread times get longer and longer, it just becomes reddit, and content gets stale.
/o/ is another board I've noticed that has slowed done alot. You reply to a thread it takes forever for it to dip to page 2.

kek constraints breed creativity. supposedly the jews are like that too, lots of rules but youre allowed to break them if you're clever enough to come up with a plausible workaround.

we should own the rights to our likeness, and the actual damage of a deepfake comes from reputation harm, so letting people gen ai on their own where they're aware its fake, preserves peoples creative rights, while forbidding publishing prevents protects our image rights.
but they'll probably try and overreach by saying you can't share metadata/image creation instructions.

I thought /jp/ was supposed to be about it's name, otaku culture, and yet its like 90% touhou. Am I missing something? I never really got the appeal of touhou and why its so massive.

Okay, but WHY with touhou? What is the appeal?
>>1567428
Are you really going to nitpick over a fucking month? I swear a 4chan wiki thing had it listed For February.
Anyway you missed the point, the fact is its been 5 and a half years since they added new boards of any sort despite the fact they were needed for certain things. Its not in the budget, they can't get anymore staff to mod/janny another board, janny applications take longer than ever because no one wants the job after the hack, and the site is held together is paperclips and glue so fuckers behind the scenes likely can't even add a new board without somehow fucking up the whole rest of the site in the process. This is why for existing boards, pic size limits have remained at like 2016 levels when every other fucking imageboard has them higher, no sound support for webms or mp4s, maybe a higher page limit on some boards cause 10 is not enough. They never change anything because they'll likely fuck up the site. The April Fools pranks get more tame every year because they are likely afraid of site fuck up. I don't even know what the prank was this year, anyone have a screenshot of it?
>>1567429
That's the real reason? Well, I guess that tracks as to why its all about touhou. But then why not just make a Touhou board like they did with /mlp/? Even Futuba Channel has a touhou board, two in fact.
>>
>>1567442
>But then why not just make a Touhou board like they did with /mlp/?
idk go ask moot
it's extra-funny when you consider that the emergence of new /jp/ culture (vtubers) resulted in them making a new board just for them lol
>Even Futuba Channel has a touhou board, two in fact.
Futaba has two boards for all topics
also they have a shitton of boards no one gives a shit about (I think? They might mirror 2ch's "kitchen sink" approach to boards idk)
>>
>>1567442
>Are you really going to nitpick over a fucking month?
Yes. What did you expect from an anonymous faggot?
>I swear a 4chan wiki thing had it listed For February.
nah bibanon has it listed in late January
>This is why for existing boards, pic size limits have remained at like 2016 levels when every other fucking imageboard has them higher
tbdesu altchans have them higher because they have lower overall traffic + "look goys, we have better limits than 4chud!"
>no sound support for webms or mp4s
that's a deliberate choice by staff members
moot added webms back in the day as a replacement for GIFs, not as a proper video support
>maybe a higher page limit on some boards cause 10 is not enough
I think they actually bumped page limit on /v/, /vg/ and (maybe) /pol/ sometime in 2020s
>The April Fools pranks get more tame every year because they are likely afraid of site fuck up
funny how they still have former April Fools' in the code because some of their elements are available on the site (I think some years-old threads still have emojis from 2022 prank)

That's not true. However, I've never understood why they do it like that for some that do, as one is always dead.
What is this kitchen sink thing you speak off?
>>1567445
>altchans have them higher because they have lower overall traffic
With 4chan loosing visitors year over year since 2022, it should be no problem now to increase pic size limits on some boards, since less traffic visits this shitheap now.
>moot added webms back in the day as a replacement for GIFs, not as a proper video support
I understand that, but times change. Look at Twitter how you have little snippets of video everywhere. Or Youtube shorts, TikTok, etc. Like it or not mini video media is a good thing to have, and every single alt chan I have ever visited has sound support for both webm and mp4. But not "stuck in the past" 4chan. What really ticks me off is that so much webm content has been made on 4chan over the years, since its the biggest image board, but all this content is comprised because its muted.
>I think they actually bumped page limit on /v/, /vg/ and (maybe) /pol/ sometime in 2020s
Why the fuck would you say that when I can go check and see its 10. It's been 10 pages forever. Sometimes I wish some boards had an extra five pages. That's not alot to ask for, but again, staff here would piss and moan over server costs for whatever reason or they can't edit the pages because they break the site.
I mean ffs the blotter is been left unupdated for years failing to list /vt/ because they are simply lazy.
I bitched about why /vrpg/, /vmg/, /vst/ and /vm/ were never added to the blotter years ago on /qa/ and was fed some bullshit excuse iirc they lost some permissions to it or something to that effect. Not too long after I bitched, suddenly they updated the blotter for the boards added in 2020.

Every single thing they do shows lack of care and attention to detail. Would have been real nice to have something other than just the shitty party hats for 4chans 20th, but no that would require extra effort. Or having the Halloween and Xmas themes maybe for 3-7 days before these events happen except for strictly 24 hours.

Don't be retarded on purpose.
The official artwork for Touhou has always been mid as fuck, so how did it gain any traction on visuals alone?
Its a game, so what's so special about it?
Like Pokemon got huge, it was a novel concept. So explain why touhou is so big and why moot needed to make a board for it with /jp/.

>That's not true. However, I've never understood why they do it like that for some that do, as one is always dead.
from what I've heard all (or, as you say, some) boards get a "shitposting" version to keep the discussion "clean"
the closest example we have on 4chan is /pol/ and /bant/
>What is this kitchen sink thing you speak off?
"Everything and a kitchen sink" method of having EVERYTHING
2ch has six million different boards for topics that often correlate
One example I distinctly remember is UNIX board and Linux board (while they also have general tech board(s))

>With 4chan loosing visitors year over year since 2022, it should be no problem now to increase pic size limits on some boards, since less traffic visits this shitheap now.
afaik a ton of their traffic is now wasted on "security"
like their source code from 2025 has clear references to a secondary server that checks all images on chosen boards for NSFW content. Shit's nuts
>Look at Twitter how you have little snippets of video everywhere. Or Youtube shorts, TikTok, etc
anyone who thinks that 4chan needs TikTok content deserves to be shot
>Why the fuck would you say that when I can go check and see its 10. It's been 10 pages forever
Excuse me for lying, I just checked bibanon timeline and it says that
>(2023) December 17 - /v/, /vg/, /vt/, and /pol/ now have 200 thread slots instead of 150.
so instead of new pages they increased the number of threads per pages?
>I mean ffs the blotter is been left unupdated for years failing to list /vt/ because they are simply lazy.
from what I've heard they are allowed to use it (along with @4chan xitter, tumblr blog and other forms of communication) only with hiro's approval, which is rare as fuck
>Every single thing they do shows lack of care and attention to detail. Would have been real nice to have something other than just the shitty party hats for 4chans 20th, but no that would require extra effort
Remember Christmas-themed fortunes and Merry Rickmas? These were in 2020s
also leave the hats alone, they are classic
>Okay, something with the captcha, but anyone has a screenshot of it? That threads tells me nothing.
shit like pic rel instead of captchas

What exactly *is* the point of /bant/?
>>1567462
>while Futaba is still alive 2ch died twice at this point lol
Isn't 2ch still alive?
Futuba also has a bunch of dead boards that are full of off topic spam. Only the main may and img boards are useful for anything. Futuba has also seen a decline in quality posters.
>>1567463
>anyone who thinks that 4chan needs TikTok content deserves to be shot
Look, I'm just saying, webm and mp4 support with sound is not a big deal. 4chan will always be an imageboard first. Even Futuba Channel, as basic as it is, has sound support for those file types. People don't consider it a video board, its an image board.
>so instead of new pages they increased the number of threads per pages?
I would guess so.
>only with hiro's approval, which is rare as fuck
That fucker is mia at this point. Should be able to do whatever the fuck they want. Did Hiro ever make any comment regarding the hack?
>shit like pic rel instead of captchas
So it was like memes and shit? I mean, its not the worst thing ever, but its still somewhat a boring April Fools thing. Did they actually work if you got it correct? What would happen if you got it wrong?
>>
>>1567500
>What exactly *is* the point of /bant/?
off-topic threads from /pol/ get moved to /bant/ since /pol/ is /b/2 these days
>Isn't 2ch still alive?
Watkins kicked hiro out and, because of hiro's trademark, changed name to 5ch
just recently he also had to hop domains because his barely-moderated texboard (how do you expect an American to read Japanese? lol) had too many /zoo/s for Epik's liking
most anons moved to Futaba for actual discussion afaik
>Should be able to do whatever the fuck they want.
I think /v/ spin-off boards were like that and he didn't like that
>Hiro ever make any comment regarding the hack?
he posted "Soon™!" from his Shitter when someone asked about 4chinz coming back
>Did they actually work if you got it correct? What would happen if you got it wrong?
the problem with the prank was that you had to have a good trust score to get the memecaptchas + you'd get them only periodically (like once every ten posts or smth). You could also ignore the joke and do standard star star moon challenge

I just want GR15 revoked, that board sucks dick. Pony reaction images are fun and I wish I could use them outside of that septic tank.

No one wants to be a janny because:
-You need to submit a form of ID (I don't know when this started, I assume under moots years you didn't need to).
-You need to be in Discord 24/7.
-You need to do it for free.
-No one wants to janny a board with a shitty mod above them who hates their board anyway (so if you're trying to "make a difference", fat chance.
-No one wants to be a janny on a site where they know the staff don't give a flying fuck about the site (hack proved this).
-No one wants to be a janny and get doxxed on account of their shit security (if it happened once, it could happen again), see the first one, IDs need to be submitted.
It's not worth ruining your life to be a janny on this hell hole of a website. This website just needs to go away, the hack opened the minds of anyone paying attention that all staff involved actively hate the site and do everything in their power to make it worse with every change they make of feature (or board) they take away.
>>
>>1567790
Oh, and to your post, the reason they are still open is not because 4chan is alive and well and they want a big team of jannies, they are still open because they can't find anyone gullible enough to sign up.

>What do you mean? Who was the person that decided they need to submit IDs?
from what I've heard moot was trying to properly make 4chan legally safe after the fappening fiasco and one of his decisions (advised by his lawyer, obviously) was a NDA + ID check for all staff members
one janny didn't want to dox himself and just leaked #janiteam before leaving the team

>one janny didn't want to dox himself and just leaked #janiteam before leaving the team
You mean he leaked a chatroom log? IRC or Discord?
And after that, moot sold the site?
Moot got out at the perfect time. I know many people bitched him out for selling, but he was likely getting stressed out from running this anime image board he made when he was a teen, and getting closer to 30 wanted to cash out and have it be someone else's problem.
Would have been nice if he came back for the 20th b-day just to say hi, but dude just went off radar and wants nothing to do with this place anymore.
And then it was found out he had connections to Jeffery, lol.
I wonder if moot deep down hates the monster he created, the way Hotwheels of 8ch (who actually died recently!) went from a free speech leader to changing his tune after some shootings where the shooters posted their rants on his board.
