folder or file previews? you need to install the previews thing for files , they don't ship with arch for example (arch ships with nothing)

Install `qt6-imageformats`, `kimageformats` and `kio-extras`.

NTA but I have all of these installed and I have the same problem. Individual files show thumbnails just fine, but folder icons don't preview their contents.

I have all the dependencies installed already. Dolphin for some reason just refuses to show the folder contents like how >>1566694 describes here. I did notice that it did work when I changed the icon to a custom one. See picrel to see what I mean.

That's an interesting workaround. I was able to get the same results by replacing the icon for one of my folders with a bitmap image. However, if I used one of KDE's in-built icons, which are SVG vector images, those won't work.
It might be worth browsing /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/ or /usr/share/icons/breeze, copying the SVG folder icons, then converting them to PNG or another bitmap format if you want "normal" folder icons that can display previews.

it's not a pref it's a fact we all know here it's impossible to find memes you want to reply with without tags
>>

Well, that's a different use case then. Thumbs provide visual flair, and give you a general idea of what's in a folder. Tags are better if you're looking for something specific. One doesn't replace the other 100%.
