I suppose you don't mean strategy games like Civilization that are based upon a research / technology tree. Some like Alpha Centauri have different factions with different priorities.

There are games where you need to produce a solution (e.g. nandgame.com, programming games), but I wouldn't classify it as research because you are only operating within a single paradigm rather than across multiple or even making their own
I'm skeptical whether such games could exist since you'd need entirely new game mechanics for each paradigm/model/approach and you would need to make it overly expansive to prevent the player even accidentally metagaming and spoiling themselves
