I think a lot comes from your intention, from that invisible part inside you. Like, what preeceds the action of harming someone? It generally comes down to you wanting to hurt the other person, right? That feeling of wanting to kill someone for their offense or whatever. I think that's the principle. You take that feeling and you act through it on a different manner that a killer would act. A killer would take that feeling and literally kill the person and probably going to jail for it. Well, as we all know, all things (training methods included) are not created equally, it could be that the form of tai chi you practiced is just more effect and that's why it worked (there's also a lot of garbage/fake methods being pumped out into the market too.
