I've seen a lot of people dislike it. But there is no need to hate it. Blender is an alright little utility buddy. It's not the best at anything, though it's a great helper. Personally I only use it to clean up models post CAD modeling, store my hp and lp's in seperate collections, and it's simply great for that. I like Blender.

I've been a blendfag for a decade and started trying out animation and holy shit is it archaic. Library Overrides has been in limbo and buggy which has been a turn-off for studios that require a reliable animation pipeline.
Cultist and shills keep hyping up every update as the "best" update when it doesn't even address the long existing problems.

And it crashes after you import an two million poly mesh, least you try to sculpt at extremely high values

No, the new animation system is a work in progress that started in 2020 and the first big thing landed in the 4.4 with the introduction of the slots, after that shit they have planned to work in layered animation, rigging nodes and baking, and they want to add minor shits like a bone picker , I don't think this will be ready for the 5.2, you can check the development here https://developer.blender.org/docs/release_notes/5.0/ and here https://devtalk.blender.org/c/meeti ngs/28 .
I think the biggest thing for the 5.0 is SDF modeling (volume nodes as they call it), out of beta after 2 years, but it is only for geometry nodes so you'll have to make your own tree to use them.

i love blender over all as it touches on everything but it got rid of reactor particles and never recovered it. particles should work like this: get rid of particle "amount" as anything that affects the rate and set it to a culling setting based on a set amount of ram- when ram is exceeded it will cull particles base on "age, density or distance from camera". have a separate particle rate setting that can be animated instead of a texture control so you can pin-point control of it for say water-hose animation. an animatable splay control with 0 for a straight shot and a random setting if you want some uncontrolled chaos. BRING REACTOR BACK. Texture controls can still stick around.

fast usually works, if you aren't doing precision modeling you could try to me the cutting object a bit, sometimes works, you could try to triangulate the object first, you have a new solver in the 4.4 and in the 5.0 you can use sdf modeling to deal with booleans too.

it's non-manifold. trying to decide whether manually doing the non-manifold or just going a different route is better. I was super careful, I thought but mirror seems to turbofuck me with non-manifold edges. I just dont' understand how people get shit done when I can't even keep a simple model like this straight.

People who hate blender are shit eating niggers who cry and bitch and moan about retarded shit.
MUH HOTKEYS ARE DIFFERENT
OMG
IT DOENS'T MATCH ADOBE (the software they were groomed into using and getting used to) SO ITS BAAAAAAAAAAD
I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO C-C-C-CUSTOMIZE A UI TO MY EXACT LIKINGS, IT SHOULD JUST LOOK LIKE ADOBE
You see the same complaints with people when it comes to GIMP.
The vocal complainers are paid shills or legit retards, in every case.
A lot of the people making 3D porn use Blender just fine and a lot of the game modding and indie dev community uses it too.

BLENDER IS FREE SAR, DO THE NEEDFUL
SAAR YOU NEED 68886544 ADDONS TO MAKE BLENDER WORK

>You see the same complaints with people when it comes to GIMP
It used to be very valid criticism 10 years ago, I don't know what GIMP is like today but Blender had a glow up since 2.8 and became less autistic

"Relying on booleans to model is the 3D equivalent of finger painting"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfTdQNECvtU
There are rare cases where booleans can be used (with a lot of preparation), but most of the time you're better off with proper modeling techniques so you can keep the mesh lightweight and avoid having to clean up

the manifold operator is very fast, but only works on manifold geometry and you don't always make make manifold objects with geo nodes
5.0 is debuting some SDF nodes which could be great for boolean operations in geo nodes

I attempted to learn blender about 3-4 years ago but gave up after the anvil free tutorial. I even spent money on a computer because I thought a cheap laptop can't handle animation. I couldn't stand the fucking TE-TRANNY-GONAL POLYGON rule! it must be four sided or else the colors won't fit FUCK YOU! no wonder it's for free, because how else would you get people to use it?
does anybody know a modeling program that uses triangle mesh in stead of 4 sided mesh? I think that the problem would be solved with a mesh made of triangles, it would be so much easier and logical.

I don't get the hate and it is not just because I use it for my needs on a regular. If you don't like the way it works theres a plethora of other softwares at your disposal, literally. Free and paid, iirc. I started in 2.76 and was solidified when 2.8x came out. Mind you I did use CAD beforehand, played around with Blender and adapted quite well.
For others, it is a skill issue for not being able to adapt. Which is fine, Blender aint going anywhere and no one is forced to use it. There is also a large library of information to utilize it; albeit not all straightforward, but I think that just goes with the "it's free" territory. Dont like it, dont use it and let the rest of us live.
Most blender users arent hating on cad or w/e else, at im not. Hating on things when I can use that energy to work...tsk tsk tsk

2: makes anything more the "flat low poly" shit
3: does not use addons to fix this broken shit.

I'm still not a fan of GIMP even now, I think it's fine for image editing but for anything approaching art it just feels obtuse. I think Krita is a better replacement for photoshop in like 90% of the stuff I've done related to 3d.

Make what? shitty 3d art?
But I did, did you not see the train?
Have a shitty Pio I made today.
Any way, it's not like I want to work in a studio. I just want to make funny shit and send it to friends and family for fun.

I've been following a intro video series for Blender and I have to say this is the most schizophrenic and counter-intuitive software I've ever used in my life. It doesn't help that the video series keeps hammering keyboard short-cuts for almost every step, every instruction. 3DSM has a modeling interface which let you easily select every modeling function you could dream of, and this program does away with it? I'm only a couple of hours in, but this shit better change soon. I don't want to learn 8 billion shortcuts.

Just bring the fucking side menu back. And I don't wanna hear that "we already have that in Blender". It's clunky, bare-bones, takes a long time to get used to. Not to mention you have to somehow know there's different variations on ways you can modify your geometry via keyboard hotkeys with any explicit instruction. The side panel in 3DSM was everything you needed and there were no surprises.

blender has a bigger community and is up to date
no one cares about your shitty little abandoned software
everything softimage does blender can do better and is more intuitive
>muh based japanerino devs who use my shitty little software11!11

> no retopology, no nurbs, animation/rigging sucks, multires broken, dyntopo abandoned, no native layers in sculpt mode, neither in texture paint mode, simulations suck, etc....
Maybe if you like geometry nodes or eevee, other than that no.

>why arent you using softimage xsi?
I am using blender since the 2.47, that's why i know it is a piece of shit.
I forgot to add that they are rising the minimum specs and that will kill most of their user base.

the only thing I dislike about blender is that the devs bent the knee and abandoned a solid interface design built for expert users in favor of a beginner friendly interface to appease the retards who kept crying about how complicated it was over the past decade or so
seeing people use blender on youtube and twitch is painful. everything is so slow now. navigation is so slow, basic vertex massaging is so slow
but then again, the world has changed and I imagine most people aren't massaging vertices anymore
or are they? I see some kids praise blockbench and crocotile and even older versions of max and wings or whatever. I don't think people understand how simple and fast blender can be
anyway that's what I think about that cloud
>>
>>1019874
how to the fuck do you use it without popping a vein?
i wanted to do a vertex animation (im modding a game), coming from 3ds max to blender because it has some 3rd party tools for modding.
in 3ds max:
>enable auto frame
>move the vertices how i want them on the frames
>animation done
in blender:
>move vertices, hmm auto record frame doesn't work for some reason, allright i'll insert them myself then
>doesn't work
>google it, doesn't work like that in blender, you need to install an addon
>addon installed, watch youtube video on how it works
>finally getting started with the animation, though auto record frame still doesn't work
>can't test the animation in edit mode, have to go to object mode every time
>noticing some double geometry a long the way, must have accidentaly pressed e for extrude
>have to restart
>progressing trough the animation, annoying and clunky to work with but allright i'll learn
>suddenly the frames are invisible for no reason
>google it, can't find an answer as to why but it says to hide and unhide the model
>that works, frames are back
>more progress
>go to object mode to test animation, i don't know why but the animation is gone now
>go back to 3ds and never touch this piece of shit again if i don't have to
and when i look at other blender users models for the mod i often have to fix them first as they have double meshes, overlapping vertices and just strange geometry in general and now i understand why.

I have no idea what he was doing so it's impossible to recreate his retardation.
assuming he actually wanted to animate vertices, you'd use hooks and it'd work with no issue for auto-hotkeying
