Where do you guys go to find jobs? I am an industrial designer (ik I'm dead field) looking to do any kind of 3d work but I currently work a drafting job I'm starting to hate cause I don't get to use any of my actual skills.

Unfortunately I'm in the middle of no where, Louisiana. I do plan to move or at least find a remote job. I'm pretty tech savvy and can model anything from organic things to hard surface modelling. Just thought this board would know some niche sites as LinkedIn sounds terrible.

I won't be much help then - UK based. Alumni job-boards and contacts, occasional job postings but they are few right now. Seeing startups using people (mostly freelance) via word-of-mouth.
Having a bit of an "engineering mind" helps as pure ID seems to be unusual, and this will help you be more useful, particularly for lashing rigs and protos together.
Assemble a portfolio (self generated work if necessary) to show skills.
Others might have a better ideas, I'm limited by how I have been working last few years.

I appreciate it. Only option I really have is freelance, moving, or I do have a friend working in VR willing to hook me up in a role making assets but thats kinda in the air rn. I'll figure this out im still young.

Lot of it is political, many of Trump's plans sorta pushed the industry out of country. Chinese industrial designers are thriving for example but in the west good luck even getting a job as a junior. Most of the time these jobs get done by whatever high ranking engineer is on the team now instead of hiring an IDer. Plus UI ux designers have started naming all their roles the same thing an IDer would be looking for so it's even harder to find a job.

As I said I'm from Louisiana, I don't think I've met many Indians here but who goes into 3d to make bank? I do this cause it's been a passion besides aren't indians into the whole software and programming field instead?

come on Anon, don't be like that. While yes, DEI candidates will still get pushed by recruiters (I don't see this changing) good work will still get noticed regardless. It's better to work on building connections with your peers, try to get into the industry together and help each other along the way

No one gets in the industry
Hiring is frozen
Nobody leaves their jobs neither anyone is hiring
You are not better than the 2000 other AAA laid off applicants they get for a single position which remains in the country
And even if in the 2% you are incredibly lucky, you will be paid peanuts and swamped with work. They have the other 1999 applicants to replace you if you dare to complain.
You are delusional if you think 3D is a stable career worth chasing in 2025
But /3/ glazes the idea of starving to death on the street, doesn't matter atleast we do le 3D

go online and look up something called warhammer 40000
use your industrial design skills to create models that are approximately close to the units in that game like tanks, space ships, robots, etc (not too close, the company will sue you)
you can create a patreon and myminifacotyr account, and each month release a file like a tank or a bike or some terrain like a building design as a patreon reward. then after the month is over, you send that file over to your myminifactory shop at a slight upcharge (if you need to gauge pricing look up some existing users and see what they charge)
you dont need to texture, rig, or animate anything. the topology doesnt even have to be good. it just has to be solid so it can print in a 3D printer, and you have to give it 3D print supports (not hard to learn, mostly automated with a bit of fine tuning)
if you are even halfway skilled you can absolutely print money doing this and never have to leave your home.

i'm a 3D artist so i don't know how different it is from your field
what I did to get my job
>get hired during covid and survive the round of layoff
suck to say but I was at the right place at the right time during covid when companies hired a lot, it got me in
>have a good portfolio
this is step 0 but of course have a good portfolio, post it on artstation. if you suck you suck
>apply like crazy everywhere
>be ready to move elsewhere
if you're one of those guys that are desperate for a job but not ready to leave your hometown or only looking for full remote good luck to you

This is the beginning of the post work era. So If you are still trying to sell your work hours, knowledge of a sfotware and/ or capacity to sit in forn of a pc you will die professionally. Learn to market yourself. I've been lately making less and less renders but that doesn't mean I have stopped selling shit to my clients. AI is the ultimate sitting on a chair liberator.

Images still require my final input and a polished look but ai has shortened the preview phase by a lot and I'm replacing tools like crazy. Forget ultra hd renderings. Ai upscaling and image to video has shortened my render node use by 70%
>>1023516
>>>are you selling AI slop?
Yes. I've sold traditional renderings for 15 years and it's time to make better use of my time.Does that make you angry?
>>>how much are you making?
enough to live, travel, have kids, house, car..
>>>do client wants this?
Clients are not stupid they understand the difference between an ai generated image and a polished rendering. And they know they are getting closer. And yes the best ones don't care if you make an image out of pencils, computers or nano banana. They want what they need period.
>>>do they know you're a slop merchant and they want more?
Yes. Not because I'm a slop merchant. I cover a necessity. I'm not letting my 3dcg knowledge get in my way of making some moneh.

>making porn?
actually some years back i was working with a dev guy that liked my female models and had me making some stylized stuff for porn, covid hit and guy disapeared... anyway, i cant animate so at most i would only make sexy stylized figurines, either for somebody else to animate or for 3d printing... might give it a try, but dont know where to advertise either...
