So i'll post a chapter a day, for the next 10 days. Volumes 3&4 are announced for April
>>
As you see, chapters tend to be 30-60 pages
>>
Never read the manga before. I like how it looks sorta sloppy but really detailed at the same time. Cool style.

The art gets better after a few volunes.
>>
>>285732408
are you gonna storytime the whole thing or just those two volumes?
>>
>>285732608
The art makes Ginko too skinny.
He isn't as hot.
>>
>>285733076
The art changed over time, the anime is based on what it looked like later.
>>
Why, back in the day, was it a meme for the longest time that the first episode was more boring than usual/people should skip it? This story is a great representation of the series.
>>
>>285732628
>well done hand bandaging one panel
>child's drawing holding the cup the next

I had to reduce the size of most images, due to the stupid upload size limit (and then i had to re-do it for some, and then i had to re-do it for the same ones again, because even 3.8mb was too big for some reason). Now they're all under 3.5mb, despite some originals having been 5-15mb.
In later chapters we get some really nice vistas and coloured pages. I'll provide a link for a full resolution pics when appropriate.
Anyways, chapter 2 tomorrow. Have a good day!
>>
>>285732408
Oh, again? Neat.
>>
>>285733042
If I understood OP well, he'll do the volumes that were rereleased.
Maybe he'll do the next rereleases when they come out, too.
>>
>>285733972
Thank you for taking the time.
>>
>>285733042
Yes, i'll just do the re-released ones. In April when book 2 and 3 release, i'll definitely continue posting. And then in August for the ones after that. We got 9 more chapters for now
>>285733297
>Why, back in the day, was it a meme for the longest time that the first episode was more boring than usual/people should skip it? This story is a great representation of the series.
The human ghost angle is a bit unusual compared to the rest of the series i guess. Too anthropomorphic a problem and solution maybe? But it's still a good chapter
>>285733447
>>285732628
That was a nice bit of handiwork.
>>
>>285734681
>In April when book 2 and 3 release
Wait no. What i meant was, Mushishi Collector's Edition book 1 was released last November. It includes the original volumes 1 and 2, each 5 chapters long.
Collector's Edition book 2 will release in April, and contain volume 3 and 4. Each 5 chapters.
Collector's Edition book 3 will release in August.
In total there are 10 original volumes, so we will probably get 5 Collector's Edition books in total, seemingly with ~5 months inbetween releases. I'll dump em all

Prioritize cutting the bit depth on the .pngs before anything else.
Most manga page image files you get online are bloated and 4 bit depth (sometimes 2) is all you need to display black, white, and shades of grey.
>>
>>285739629
I'm pretty sure this is meant to be like Meiji period where the literati would know about Western science about stuff like microorganisms, but the general peasantry are still practically feudal.

>>
>>285740951
This is from Paint.NET
This image was taken from an aggregator, and was probably first saved at 8 bit depth.
If I swap to 4 Bit Depth, which is perfectly fine for this type of black and white image, I cut this down from 1.7MB, to 790KB. And there is no visible loss of quality for it, because the file was just bloated with useless data for the type of image it has saved. There are not that many shades of grey used in an average manga illustration, lol.
For images that were saved sloppily at 24 or 32 bit depth this can be more dramatic.

I remember showing anime to my friends.
They didn't know what mushi were so I said mushi are väki.
At the end of episode we all agreed that mushi are just väki.
Väki is even wider spectrum of things that includes animals, humans and higher deities.
To my knowledge mushishi's world doesn't have higher deities even though first episode and chapter appears to point towards mushi-thing.
Why do supernatural beings and gods like to drink and why do they drag humans to drink with them? Just a generl question about mythology.

The story is probably set some time in the early to mid Meiji era. Most of rural Japan would have looked exactly the same way it had for centuries, but western clothing would have been available to travelers like Ginko, if a bit rare and eccentric. His clothes all look similar to styles that existed in the 19th century, so there's nothing necessarily anachronistic about it.

Not really
A good example another anon made before si how a Tiger could kill a kid in the jungle and we must think Tigers are evil because of this, but it's not true.
Tigers, or animals in general act out their nature, we as humans just have to do our best to avoid getting killed by tigers by understanding their nature.

>>
>>285786776
No. Evil is just a concept people came up with the label particular actions or ways of being which run contrary either to an individual's opinions or a collectively, maybe vaguely, held view. You can't logically apply it to other things that are extremely different from us. Things like evil, right and wrong are human constructions only relevant to us, they are not a law of nature. Where they do possibly exist in nature, say in the behaviour of the more intelligent apes, they are still going to be at least a bit different from humans'.

I like the over-arching message of this series: That we're just another part of nature and there are other parts with their own way of existing that, while entirely alien to us, are just as natural and 'right'. It's exemplified in Ginko's backstory and history with the mountain god IIRC (I need to re-watch/read it because it's been a long time).
