I love how his dissonant expressions around music and the fact that he sees lights before his power manifests for the first time is a super early foreshadowing that his power doesn't involve music at all and he's just mentally ill and trying to dissociate from his bad environment and his influence makes other people see part of his mental illness. This manga is so well written. I can't believe it's so underrated.

That's just the copypasted official TL synopsis I think. I wish they focused more on the character side of the story rather than trying to play it off like a battle epic because while it has aspects of the latter it's more of a character driven fantasy drama than something focused on war and tactics. This gets more and more evident as the manga goes on as it slowly builds its characters which get all of its focus. I feel like presenting it like this gives a wrong idea of what the actual manga is like. It's a characterfag manga.

It gets kind of handwaved at some point when the Pope makes a formal announcement revealing Rami to people and since it's the middle ages it's not like information travels super well between lands that are at war with each other but I always felt like it was early installment weirdness and that the authors kinda covered for it later. Another early installment weirdness is that the Rami look like they put more effort into their abilities, like it's somewhat strenous. Also Zoe has some kind of lipstick. >>285752091 and Coura has smaller eyes.
I also always felt like the start sets the manga up like it's going to be a battle tactics manga and in fact the first bits of action in the intro reinforce this. I always felt like the manga shifted away from this into full on character focus with tactical battles taking a backseat (and with fights between Rami also creeping in). I wonder if this is just the natural progression or if the writers had pitched it like it was a battle tactics manga and then they took it in their own direction (that I honestly like more).

the Miquella twist was so fucking good. I love how its framed both as a fall from grace with his war crimes and also a good act that makes the world better. Both of the last volume covers show both aspects of it. In one of them he looks a different direction than everyone else and the light descends like a bomb. In the other the kids he saved from the faction he's crushing. And I love how from the very start he uses music as escapism from a shit world, and now he uses music to tear the shit world apart into a better one. Ties so well with Miura's arc of running away or not when Miura was the catalyst of this. The writing is so tight

I don't find it fun. It's not fun when the actions are acknowledged to be abominable. Luca's suffering and the world's indifference to his plight just don't make me feel rest or respite. World Trigger is fun, because the stakes of combat have some levity and space to breathe from the tension. Bugle is a campaign that needs to endure the tension.
Believe me, I like bugle, it's just not happy enough to be fun. There are moments of brevity where the characters can experience happiness, but it always feels bittersweet knowing the storm that waits for the heroes as they move on.
