You guys still using MPC-HC to watch you're animu? Is MadVR even worth it anymore? I haven't changed from MPHC for years. I think it was a K-lite version.

I use MPC-BE because my fucking traffic cone decided to use two windows (and as such, two extra steps) to play and control videos. Also it wouldn't resize easily for some reason. I don't know if it was some kind of theme extension, user error, or an update but I don't care to figure it out, MPC BE just fucking werks man

I use realplayer
I convert all my videos to realmovie format to save CPU power and hard disk space.
then i emulate a clean install of windows95 OSR2 in virtualbox for peak performance, install realplayer in that, and feed the video files in from a server on another emulated win95 instance on a different core with an emulated 16550 UART interlink so I can get the authentic buffering effect.

Almost everything in my collection runs better in VLC than MPV

Gentlemen, I like VLC.
Gentlemen, I like VLC.
Gentlemen, I love VLC!
I like AVI, I like RMVB,
I like 120fps, I like interlacing,
I like rainbowing, I like the dot crawl, I like blocking.
I like the ringing, and I like tinny audio.
On a computer, a DVD player, a PS3, on a Mac, on an Archos.
I truly love each and every kind of artifact man can encode to a file.
I like the broken ASS support when even the simplest of lines fails to render correctly.
When the translator's notes overlaps the main dialogue, it makes my heart dance!
I like when an encode displays like it is corrupted!
It always left a warm feeling in my chest when they would check the CRC, only to find it is correct.
I like it when #darkhold encoders post on AnimeSuki and RAGE about the topic at hand.
I recall how much it moved me, seeing how epic longposts were made, how they would
shun the subject again and again, even though it wouldn't die. And it's painfully exciting
when a leecher posts about how great it is in the same thread.
And how wonderful it is to have 120fps for a show that is a constant 23.976!
And that pitiful resistance, encoding to h264, despite it being harder on the CPU.
I even remember when XviD had a 10:1 leecher ratio!
I like it when the MKV fanboys are thrown into chaos. And when the VFR feature they
are supposed to be promoting is violated repeatedly... oh how very sad it is.
I like it when the detail and sharpness in HD encodes are crushed and obliterated!
And them being filtered, smearing and ghosting and looking worse than a standard DVD.
Gentlemen, what I want is a low bitrate hell.
Gentlemen, my compatriots, leechers, you who abuse my XDCC bots... gentlemen, what
o you desire? Do you also want eyecancer? Is a return to the age of VCDs what you want?
Do you yearn for a VHS encode that stretches the very limits of poor quality, the artifacts
so intense that it makes Stevie Wonder cringe?
Very well then, we shall have VLC.

MPC has better hotkeys by default and they're customizable
VLC doesn't let you change hotkeys, even simple things like load subtitle takes MOUSE CLICKS, absolutely haram

It does let you customize hotkeys but all the defaults suck
I'll just go back to MPC unless I need to work with external .mks subtitles, in which case I'll use mkv tools and make my own mkv file and keep using MPC

VLC doesn't have neither:
>button for loading the next episode in folder
>ability to remember the playlist after closing the program
which makes it clunky
best thing is, this is by design, the nerd responsible told everyone to get fucked
and don't even get me started on the chore that is using VLC android version

MPC-HC + codecs is what we call "feature complete" in the industry.

VLC is the only thing that still works on my shitty Android TV. All the MPV ports freezes when they try to load .ass subtitles.

I used to want to get into the codec-using players myself in the past. But when I tried that, the codec broke several of my /v/idya until I got rid of it. I have only been using VLC since.

You can do that in MPC-HC if you change Audio Renderer from System Default to Internal Audio Renderer. However I prefer the raw speed change for listening to music in different pitches without quality degradation. Pitch correction algorithms create imperfections, though it would still be preferable for speech.

clsid's MPC HC is literally everything I need.
It is one of my major issues with switching to linux right now since I dislike MPV or whateve other shitty players are there (especially VLC).
I am sure I could get it working with wine but I don't know how well that would work.

Does one not build a computer?
I purchased all the required parts and used them to build the computer inside an old H440 I had lying around.
Did you know you can fit 11 3.5 inch drives inside one of those?

I use Memento which is based on MPV for the sole reason it lets me use a pop up dictionary for Jap subs and I can enable a secondary sub.
The UI is a nightmare and there's no way to customize shortcuts.
You can't even copy shit from the subtitle because Ctrl+C is, for whatever retarded reason, MPV's shutdown shortcut, so it forces me to type the kanji on some other dictionary/Anki, which is a nice practice.

It's also on AUR if you plan on switching to an Arch flavored distro. I think you should give mpv another try though, they have changed a lot of stuff.
