Let's celebrate the countdown for the Tarnished Edition of Elden Ring with a storytime of some manga adaptations.
Manga #1: Elden Ring: Distant Tales Between, is a collection of side stories about various Elden Ring characters like Patches, Rya, or Millicent. Generally comedic, it is an episodic series of stories without any real continuity between installments.
Manga #2: Elden Ring: Road to the Erdtree, is a continuous comedy narrative about one Tarnished's misadventures on the way to becoming Elden Lord.
Daily, starting between 1:00-2:00PM EST.

The Twin Moons are better for invasions than PVE.
Players are easier to bait into corners where you can disco ball them to death.
Still a hard spell to use in the best of cases. ER has that issue where the cooler something looks, the less useful it usually is.

The issue the lore focus a lot on his genocide over the horsent, if the item descriptions focused more on his good relationship with his army and how he managed to inspire such loyalty in many of them just by being a honorable guy, he wouldnt come out as such nagging person, but then again, who knows how he and his army have been left to rot in the land of shadows, he doesnt even know his mom is death.

>>287398891
I never actually beat elden ring. I beat all the other souls type games a few times but Elden Ring just doesn't click with me. I don't like the open world. It's too much of a commute. In the time it takes me to get anywhere I'd have already beaten a couple bosses in demons souls.
>>
>>287409500
I prefer Elden Ring's format because I like being able to basically go at the game however I prefer and there is very little that is mandatory if you don't want to do it.
Even Demon's Souls' hub system still requires you to do Boletaria 1-1 to move on, and each world is linear within its progression. If I don't like a level, I still have to play it eventually to progress.
Elden Ring lets me say, "meh, I really don't want to do the Academy this time, so I won't", and not look back. Without having to do some shenanigans with Master Keys and the like.

Being able to choose is always a good thing.
Not many would willingly do 5-1/5-2 in DeS if they had a choice. Those levels just aren't very good.
No many would willingly do Lost Izalith in DS1 if they had a choice.
There's value in having the stuff in the game, every level is going to be someone's favorite. But the reality is that not everyone will like every level, at the same time. So there's a value in letting people choose what they play with and what they don't.
ER lets you choose what you want to do. Everything, the minimum, a CHYOA of the greatest hits, a thematic journey that you try to make a narrative out of, etc. You don't have to do everything and you don't have to go through various backdoor skips to avoid areas you dislike (like the common skip through the Valley of the Drakes to avoid the Capra Demon and Blight Town), you can just avoid the places you don't like with few exceptions.
>>
>>
>>
>>287410051
>Being able to choose is always a good thing.
Not if means 90 percent of the game is pure fluff. It means the game itself is basically anemic. Choosing to play video games at all is a choice so why play one that's so pointless.
>>
>>287409500
Understandable and the reason I prefer the other games. There's a good amount of quality dungeons and boss fights there, but it gets diluted by the long treks between each. On repeated playthroughs, you spend more time on your horse than fighting. I'd rather get a tighter experience.
Still, it's well worth beating once.
>>
>>287410386
Calling it fluff for giving you a choice on whether you want to engage with any given dungeon's content or not is a silly term.
Stringing it together in a very pretty overworld instead of a hub that you teleport out from is not a bad thing. It does not take very long to traverse Elden Ring's map if you're just aiming to get around quickly.
>>
>>
>>287410481
Having a choice between what you want to do on a given playthrough and intentionally skipping everything are different things.
Not being forced to do something is not equivalent to you then choosing intentionally to skip it all.
Nothing ever forces you to go to Nokron, for example. You can just ignore the impact site and keep playing all the same.
It is a choice whether you want to go there or not. Which means that you can skip it if you don't want to do it this playthrough or you want to save it for a later one. That is not the same as cheating yourself.
Having the ability to bypass things is not the same as being compelled to bypass them.
>>
>>287410557
Picking between a knight and a pyromancer is a choice. Choosing to neglect entire chunks of the game is just cheating yourself. There's stuff in Souls that's OPTIONAL but it's extra fun to have. Elden Ring is a chore.
>>
>>287410580
Let me ask you this -
DS3 is the most linear of the Souls games with the greatest number of roadblocks that force you to complete almost all the game's main content to progress (with a small number of optional fights or areas) in a set order.
Do you believe an average DS3 playthrough is the most 'honest' in terms of you not having the option to cheat yourself out of experiencing all the game you bought?
Where by comparison, DS2 or Elden Ring would have the most potential for one to cheat themselves out of experiencing the game they paid for?
>>
>>
>>287410448
>Stringing it together in a very pretty overworld instead of a hub that you teleport out from is not a bad thing. It does not take very long to traverse Elden Ring's map if you're just aiming to get around quickly.
Eh, hoofing around the map on Torrent isn't really a negligible amount of travel time. Even if you're speedrunning the early game, ER chews through time a lot more than the other games.

I really like elden ring. The map is bloated but there's a lot to fight and a lot to collect if you're into that. The art direction is also stunning, it's one of the best looking games of the 2020s. My one wish is that they had drip as good as Lapp's set.

According to the artist's website, their career got going in 2016/17, with a focus on contract work for official adaptations of various media properties, but they worked as an assistant for some years before that.
Dungeon Meshi started in 2014, so the timeline is a bit tight, but Haruichi potentially could have worked with Kui as an assistant before moving on.

>>287414004
Elden Ring is a marvel for how they're able to push texture and model quality that is PS4 tier as far as they did, to the point that you hardly notice that the game can run on old hardware just fine because the art direction makes up for it.
I play Elden Ring on a GTX1070, and outside of the wickermen in the DLC, I rarely have noticeable performance drops. They really handled that aspect well. And because they focused on art direction over banal realism, the game just looks great despite the light load.

Elden Ring has ruined my gaming life, I cracked 1,100 hours the other day and keep making new runs with the randomizer mod, and I've gotten into basic param modding with Smithbox. When I'm not playing ER it's a couple sessions of Nightreign.
>>
>>287416816
After playing so much Elden Ring and some Silksong, I decided to give Zelda Breath of the Wild a go and it feels super weird to play a game that feels welcoming and helpful and not like its trying to fuck me over or dick me around.
I keep doubling back through shrines or locations looking for some hidden stuff that I missed that will be super necessary and things like that.
>>
>>
>>287410745
If you start backtracking or doing anything but just progressing forwards in something like DS1, you can easily burn a good few hours of just walking before you get the Lord Vessel.
DS2 boosts you up a bit with teleportation from the start. But people criticize that in turn.
>>
>>
>>287417548
I think every shrine except the tests of strength have one "hidden" chest, but that's it. Usually it's just a generic weapon or a gemstone or something like that. I think the divine beasts have a few chests but there's nothing essential in them either because you get locked out once you beat them.
>>
>>287415669
He also does a decent bit of posture damage. I never used him before, but I went out of my way to pick him up in my most recent playthrough. I happened to be using a bleed build and that fucker put in some serious work. Absolutely raped the golden hippo.
>>
>>287417548
>I keep doubling back through shrines or locations looking for some hidden stuff that I missedFor shrines, you can check on the map whether you got all chests. If there's a treasure chest next to it on the map screen, you found everything.
>>
>>
>>287417548
As many people say, one of the nice things of elden ring is the sense of actual discovery for finding stuff, but at times, yes, that can be tiresome since it kinda creates a sense of paranoia of "did I truly fond everything?" And unlike a game like breath of the wild, you can miss really good stuff in elden ring. Breath of the wild is more forgiving since a lot of those chest are just mid tier weapons that you can anywhere or ruppies, so ething you as a player wont really hurting for missing, no even a collector thing, wince you can find the weapon elswhere
>>
>>287419221
different strokes different folks. i was more hoping for fleshing out bows and crossbows to not be a chore to use or transforming into a mimic or soul item to bait and eat players or a way to get extra arms for quad weapons or a MK scorpion style hookshot or hand to hand combat being viable or play as the snakemen from sens fortress

For all we know Dung Eater also kept coming back to life due to grace, so locking him in the deepest shithole might have been the best they could do.
>>
>>287421949
It is entirely possible that Marika (or Grace if it has a sense of self-awareness) detected the potential for the Dung Eater to make a Great Rune and left him alive because of that. That kind of potential is rare in the world and not many have it. Useful for her/the system.

Imagine the genuine horror of his captors
>The LOATHSOME Dungeater has come to life once again
>They hunt him down and put him to death
>He revives
>Maybe we didnt kill him right last time and he is a sturdy bastard
>Kill him again
>He revives again
>Keep killing him
>He keeps standing up
>Every time you wait for him to revive or he is acting death and is projecting himself killing people and defiling their souls or just sitting there talking about how he will defile you once he is free
>You know this isnt a joke or just an angry prisioner talking shit
I pity the guards that had to deal with him when he revived.

Sweetness and Lightning is kinda the classic if you want comfy basic cooking.
I liked this short one, Samenai Machi no Kissaten, a few years ago. Slightly better quality cooking than the basic stir fries or fantasy tarts that would never work that you often see.

The cut merchant stuff and the unexplored Godskin lore will always be sore points about elden ring for me. The merchant stuff woyld have been great conplement to the frenzy flame lore, specially as the origin or at least the reason the frenzy flame is on the lands between assuming like all other gods, its origins is something from space, and the godskin just feel like a really important thing that was left unused, you gonna tell me there is some cult that used to have access to the rune of death and would hunt "gods" to skin them, while Marika is the one and only true god and her childs are all demigods, sounds like a group dedicated to hunt her family down and remember the wandering mausoleoms are said to carry the corpse of Marika unwanted kids, so maybe some of those were killed bybthe godskins? add that their leader was an empyrian herself before Melenia and Mikela that has been active almost as long as Marika, yeah sounds like they were building to create a genuine rival to Marika but then cut it short, the DLC having nothing about them or the gloam eye queen was really dissapointing.

There are actually two cut merchant questlines, heh heh heh.
Both link to Frenzy, but in slightly different ways.
One involved the player collecting St. Trina's dream opium that the Merchants would imbibe to help them ward off Frenzy at it consumed their minds and made them psychically merge together in a strange way. The song the Merchants play was intended to be a lullaby to ward off Frenzy.
The second, was dedicated to Kale in specific. Where you'd collect messages for him sent by other merchants that would lead him on and on through the world, into Leyndell and eventually all the way down through the Shunning Grounds, where he'd see all the dead merchants and the doors of the Three Fingers and go mad from rage.

>I remember an interview where Miyazaki said that Godskins were meant to represent the ambition of mankind vs the gods
You telling me the godskin could have been a "fuck the elden ring" ending? Frenzy Flame still uses the erdtree to spread its flame, a godskin ending could easily be one where the ring is never mended but fully destroy, allowing nature and life to proceed as normal without the impose control of the ring, like when on dark souls you let the flame go out
>>
>>287428760
>At least EVERYONE can agree that Melina was the Gloam Eyed Queen
Not really, unless you use a very vague definition. A lot of people don't believe she was literally her, but some variation of reincarnation, having her power, assuming her role etc etc.
>>

My personal theory regarding the Godskin after the DLC introduced the existence of Divine Beasts is that the Godskins in the beginning were just hunting those, and only pivoted on humanoid demigods after Marika exterminated them both as revenge and as the only kind of gods remaining.

Thanks for another kino storytime, OP
I incidentally found out on my first playthrough what releasing the fetid feces feaster does to Broggart and was really sad. Iron balls were never of much interest to me, so in the subsequent playthroughs I tried my best to avoid the poopoo questline, or just immediately killed the stool man for his sword. Boggart is truly the one NPC worth fighting for.

>Wilkinson: What can you teach us about the character shown in the concept art that was released?
>Miyazaki: We chose this character because of his eccentric aspects as well as the way he portrays the darkness that the world and story possess. While Elden Ring may be a classic dark fantasy title, it is more than just that. This character also represents one more theme in addition to the previously mentioned eccentricity. That theme is the will, or ambition of mankind.
Yeah, there was some philosophy to the Godskins that we lost over the course of development.

>Show of hands, which of you got our Crabbro killed by the PeepeePoopoo Man when you played?
It actually happened the opposite. In the sense that the Giant Death Crab that spawns when you fight the Dungeater managed to kill both the Dungeater and me. Boggart was still chilling in Liurnia.
>>
>>287431112
A cut version of the dialogue used during the burning of the Erdtree suggests that the player would have used blackflame to burn the Erdtree rather than the Giants' flame of ruin. It also helps to bridge Melina's connection between fire and destined death.
>>
>>
>>287431321
I still don't understand why they changed stuff like this. The game is full of things that scream retconning in production or cut content. Like Iji's death, or who the fuck is the body in the cocoon in Mohg palace if Miquella's body is in the Land of Shadow.
>>
>>287430509
I think that there is a link between the Godskins and Hornsent.
The Godskin Peeler has a big spiral point, the Godskin Stitcher has a spiral hilt, the Godslayer's Greatsword is made around a spiral.
I don't know if the imagery is intended to be linked or if it was just accidentally so. It makes the lack of clear reference in the DLC so that you could concretely demarcate where the Godskin stuff separated out from everything else more clearly annoying.
>>
>>287431541
The Godskin have clearly some kind of crucible connection, which is more visible on the Nobles having animal features. Now if they are supposed to have it or it was something that got changed from a lore standpoint and they just let all the design clues because the models were already done it's anybody's guess.

>I still don't understand why they changed stuff like this. The game is full of things that scream retconning in production or cut content.
I'd really like to know. People love to say "they cut it for a reason" when you point to cut content, but sometimes, it just fills gaps and explains things so much more neatly than whatever slapdash job we were left with.
>>
>>287431792
Unfortunately I think the reason is that they have understood that if they explain things clearly then the amount of speculation and talking is reduced so sometimes they just muddle the waters to create engagement.

It's more that FromSoft shuffles a lot of assets around during development and the lore is made up after the fact.
Nepheli and Diallos/Jar Bairn were clearly suffering from time constraints and only finished after release. At the same time, someone on the team decided that Kale shouldn't be moving around for whatever reason. When you think of Vyke's cut content and him being on the cover art, you get the feeling the Frenzied Flame used to have a larger presence, which seems to have been an intentional choice. But there's no way to know if it was for story direction or development constraints.

>>
>>
>>287437813
I don't really think any of their Souls games have had 'healthy' dev cycles since maybe Demon's Souls.
Every other Souls game bears some clear evidence of being hacked together at the last minute based on a lot of disparate assets.
I think that this bothers people that like Souls games more than most fanbases, because if you care about the plot of any of these games, you're really putting a ton of trust in Fromsoft that what is there is intentional.
Like Skyrim probably has more cut or rearranged content in it than most Fromsoft games just on account of how big it is and how much stuff is in it that obviously was going to be rearranged constantly as devs adjusted for balance. But Skyrim has a clear storyline to it and it isn't afraid to share it at length and in detail. You'll absolutely know what the vision of what finally made it to release was meant to be, at least for the most part. No matter how messy it was in development.
For Souls games, because the plots are intentionally ambiguous, players have to trust that most details associated with some plot point or person that we don't know everything about are intentional and can be used to interpret what the greater picture of everything is. Because otherwise there is very little explicit narrative or information to work from. You have to trust that names, designs, equipment, item placement, scenery, etc. mean something.
But this means that once players find the limits of their ability to trust that what is in the game that they played was intentionally staged for them to interpret to some degree of accuracy to a greater artistic vision, that it generates a lot more controversy than it would in other fanbases.
>>
>>287432201
Ranni ending is taking the elden ring and give it to the moon outer god, hoping that with the moon far away influence (no direct and meddling like the greater will) will allow the people in the lands between to move on from the golden order and work themselves for a better world under the guidance of the moon.
>>
>>
>>287438259
Demon's Souls was famously saved from development hell by Miyazaki restructuring it into the Souls design philosophy we know today. But it is one of the most coherent lore-wise thanks to the simple scope and structure.
The gaps in the lore are the most noticeable in Elden Ring because of how many figures were involved in the story and how large the game is. And with many Demigods and other figures still being alive and reasonably sane, it doesn't even feel like the same kind of millenia long post-apocalypse of Dark Souls, despite everything being in ruins. You get the feeling the player character should be able to learn far more about "recent" history.

I think Demon's Souls being a trainwreck gave it an easier development than later games because there wasn't any pressure to release it ASAP.
Dark Souls was already super hyped at Fromsoft before its release and there was a lot of pressure to get it out the door soon. DS2 literally started development before DS1 even released, they were that committed to it.

It has the size, but it doesn't have the quality. Giant open spaces as featureless and empty as Mountaintops. Universally weak dungeon design, Belurat is a narrow hallway in particular with barely anything to really explore. Abhorrent trash like abyssal woods is inexcusable in particular, especially when midra manse itself is by far the most pathetic "dungeon" fromsoft has ever created. 3 copypasted dragons, a shit ton of copypasted mobs from the base game littering the map, entire locations with nothing but the base game mobs in general like charo's hidden grave. Each new mob is reused a billion times until you grow tired of even seeing them.
Hell even in terms of gear it was half assed. Beyond 3-4 standouts like light greatsword and backhand blades, the dlc weapon design was a sharp downgrade from ringed city and old hunters weaponry.
>>
>>287443227
Belurat is mediocre, but the Shadow Keep is great, the pot dungeons and catacombs are great, and Enir Ilim has amazing spectacle on its side.
Stuff like Messmer's Soldier's Spear or the Black Steel Great Hammer or the Bloodfiend's Arm or the kungfu, rapidly became some of my favorite weapons in any Fromsoft game.
>>
>>287443295
Shadow Keep is as bad as Belurat. I praise them for trying something new with the way it was integrated into the overworld, but the individual quality of environments almost feels like a mod, individual chunks of SK are all repetitive as fuck and very lacking in interesting level design. You can just compare it with the Research Hall from BB to see how bad and linear the Specimen Storage feels in comparison. The sunken part of the shadow keep in particular feels completely half assed, filled with repeating assets and lacking proper rewards for exploration.
Messmer's spear is just a shorter treespear, both blacksteel and bloodfiend arm are only strong stat wise but not unique in terms of moveset. Compare it to the ringed knight weaponry or crow quills.
>>
>>287443414
Unlike the Research Hall, the Shadow Keep has engaging enemy design and good aesthetics, and you underrate how it acts as an axis mundi and how fun that makes navigation when you never know where you're getting popped out.
A weapon doesn't have to be anime-styled to be interesting or fun to use.
Those weapons are appealing because they're well designed to be all killer no filler or gimmicks. Things like the kungfu or Rellana's swords or the cirques are wacky and weird, but they're not really interesting to me in the same way that a good solid weapon that was clearly well thought out in terms of fitting into the game's systems would be.
>>
>>287443504
>Unlike the Research Hall, the Shadow Keep has engaging enemy design and good aesthetics
Nigga what
Research Hall is literally one of the most atmospheric fromsoft locations. It's Latria 2.0 full of creepy sounds and weird designs, it actually feels like a research facility made by madmen. It also has several enemies unique to this area and their design is batshit insane, hell RE9 stole one of the enemy types.
Shadow Keep has 2 enemies from DLC, and only 1 enemy type is actually unique to it. The rest is filler trash like bats, crabs and two tree spirits. You know shit is badly undercooked when a miniboss of the area is just a fire knight with 1 more attack.
>A weapon doesn't have to be anime-styled to be interesting or fun to use.
It's a good thing DS3 dlc weapons were unique without all of them being anime styled. There's virtually nothing as cool as millwood axe for axes in the DLC. Hell compare milldwood greatbow with its bazooka projectiles to the Igon's greatbow which doesn't even have anything unique going for it.
In fact the DLC is even worse when it tries to make an "anime" moveset, Star-Lined Sword is one of the biggest disappointments in the DLC.
>>
>>287443699
Just being creepy isn't all that interesting to me.
Because the Fire Knights are very engaging to fight and have great movesets and weaknesses.
They're good enemies because you could stand in a void and have fun fighting them.
The Research Hall doesn't have that. Ambiance is worth whatever its worth, but good combat is priceless.

I get the idea
You reach 95%, and then reshuffle the assets to fill the last gap.
Or you make some related models, and it makes more sense to reshuffle them.
The problem is that when more and more is unfinished, it starts looking really strange to axe entire questlines, or you move finished content in to proxy unfinished content.
And then it starts getting strange....
Iji is killed by... something else than the Fingers assassin ganksquad? And why the particle effects? Which is made even weirder by still having the NPC invader cosplaying as Blaidd in the same questline moment, and the Ever Goal stuff with Blaidd.
GEQ is most likely intentionally suppose to be a missing gap, but why rearrange her followers and items?
All the Peepeepoopooman and St Trina stuff is moved to the DLC? Except parts are kept?
The DLC gets so feature crept they end up settling for Radahn using large swats of the Pontiff moveset.
Both 90% finished merchant questlines get cut, but we still get Shabriri?? Shabriri is still a good 10/10, but why?
The reason its so baffling, is because it seems the concept art is carefully planned out, which is why there is so much consistency in the iconography and architecture.
>>
>>287445551
>you could even make the argument she looked like that for appeal as part of the illusion
Don't know about that. We see paintings of her that, as far as I remember, don't look much different.
But we know that Gwynevere's tits are only as big as they are because the designer working on her really, really wanted them to be, and Miyazaki didn't want to break the guy's heart and didn't refuse him.
Which is baffling because I remember reading that Miyazaki wanted her to be a giant mommy character, but then he had to be convinced to give her big tits? What a hack.

While the missing information and openesz to interpretation of the DS and sibling games is part of the appeal, I too wish for a game lile that at least once, more of a experiment to see how could they write a game with a more clear cut and defined story, will people like it? Will the story be good? Or the characters likeable? It would be better if the base game has some vagues parts that are all clarified in the dlc.

I will never forget the awe I felt when I got to phase 2 as it fucking grew plasma wings or whatever, made a quick fly by frying my ass, and then landed as the fucking volcano erupted. That shit is legendary. The couple attacks it has where it deafens you momentarily are so good.
But I still like Midir just barely more, mechanically. Having to go face to face against the dragon for the best results, no tricks or gimmicks, just outlasting the raw savagery, is something I greatly appreciate.

I think Bayle was great because he was posed in a way that let you actually hit his face or weak points all the time, where for almost every other dragon, you're whacking ankles or arms all day, until they finally give you a head to smack.
It just feels better.

Honestly, this was my experience with Bayle. Sure, you can shank his wounded leg, but then he spams the dick blast. When you fight his head, he's much more polite and controllable. Meanwhile, I can't stand the shit Midir does to the camera. First time I beat him was by spamming running attack->run away.

Never got to Sinh in DS2. It's been over a fucking decade since I got through DS1 so I remember next to nothing about Khalameet, other than beating it first try because my build was so retardedly dumb and effective, every boss in the DLC was just a speedbump.
Placidusax is alright, but he's got nothing on Midir and Bayle.

Wonder if you all still have the hearts to murk these guys now.
How many of you ever even bothered with the crafting system?
I used it a lot for exalted fleshes and some pots once in a great while.
I am the one person that was excited to see Arteria Leaves.

I didn't, but that didn't stop me from picking up materials and buying all cookbooks from merchants anyway.
Was funny to later find out that sleeping pots are pretty overpowered.

I made a rogue character that uses dual daggers with status effects, crossbows and a bow.
It is utterly sub-optimal but its much more fun to play these games by sticking to a theme after so many playthroughs

Thanks for dumping. Cute chapters.
I used the crafting system, but not too in depth. Mostly used whatever I got, never went hunting for materials. Out of fire pots? I'll use some other. Sure, I'll do less damage or whatever, but I'm just using them to clear those annoying enemies. Out of those as well? Maybe try some arrows. Pickled turtle and exalted flesh are kinda nice, but not an absolute necesssity. Fire coils are dope and I wish I could carry twice as many, but fuck grinding for stuff.
Always buy a full storage of crab, though.

Cute
I like how obvious it is that the mangaka actually played the game and is having fun getting to draw side stories for it, instead of trying to do their own thing and almost seeming resentful of having to work on someone else's material like a lot of adaptations.

I enjoyed Midir quite a lot, but yeah, Bayle is indeed Fromsoft's best dragon boss when all things considered.
>>287447082
>I think Bayle was great because he was posed in a way that let you actually hit his face or weak points
I love that too, not because it makes the fight easier or anything, but because it fits so well with his design. Bayle is literally a cripple dragon and has to use his tail as a crutch, his wings are in tatters so he can't just fly on a whim, and then there's his shorter neck compared to the ancient dragon, all of these things forced him crouch so low on the ground and let us hit his head more often. I think this is a better solution than relying on a script event to ground the dragon like with Kalameet. There are just so many great stuffs about Bayle that I can't mention it all in one post.
Placidusax has great design too, I like his old and withered theme more than Midir's corrupted-by-the-dark theme, but Midir still offered a better boss fight with lots of andrenaline rush. Bayle is the perfect combination of ingenious design and intense boss fight. On top of that, we can't just talk about Bayle without mentioning Igon, this dude and his quest is definitely the cherry on top.
>>
>>287449073
I severely doubt that. If that quest existed, more players would miss it completely than would leave it unfinished, i guarantee it. But even if that were true, so what? 51% of players don't beat Morggot.
>>287447595
I made some throwing knives for something at somepoint. Once i learned that you don't lose cracked pots when you throw them, i remember i made a lot of fire pots for a boss i was stuck on I don't remember the boss, just realizing pots were actually useful, then running around looking for flame butterflies.

If Fromsoft made a quest out of the prompt of "player finds out of place wild animal and brings it back to its nest", the outcome would be that after you leave and come back to check on the nest again after area reload, it would be full of frenzy flamed rabbits and one dead non-frenzied rabbit.

As a Fromsoft NPC your fate is either sitting on the ground somewhere repeating the same dialog forever, or dying horribly because you failed at everything in life.
Almost no alternatives.

I mostly used crafting for greases and poison cures, really hated how some of the pots require some really rare materials, or at least ones that could obly be found on 1 or 2 small areas, given the nature of the game, making any use of them on a boss a total waste if you lose

THE LOATHSOME CUM EATER
>>
>>287427091
the swaddling cloth is the clearest description of the nature of the godskins. they were adopted, raised to be weapons then lost their mother, so they're scouring the world desperate to preserve what little remains of her. notably destined death, the festival at windmill village and the serpent's aminion. all points to marika who has plenty of serpent themes and imagery attached to her. what the godskins are wearing appear to me to be troll skins which explains why they're all skinned and are graceless.
the fell god was the marika of the previous age, it would make sense she could infiltrate the hierarchy of the hornsent if she was posing as a queen whose troops could convert fell god worshipping trolls into soldiers.

Very cute chapter, thanks for the drop
I've been a crafting chud since my first playthrough. Poisonbone darts can be quite handy when you're shit at the game at first, then once you get better you get way more mileage out of pottery and consumable crafting. Various stones are also fun for online, like laying paths with rainbow stones for invaders, or dropping a warming stone inbetween bouts of an honorable duel before you begin the fight to the death.
>>
>>287463153
that noble is allied with rykard and likely the connection which puts him, praetor of the golden order, in contact with the god devouring serpent. we also know through the blasphemous claw that rykard knows about destined death and aided ranni in planning the night of black knives. and additionally, the effect of his great rune is to absorb hp on killing something while the swaddling cloth has a similar effect that absorbs hp on successive attacks.
>>
>>287463593
>that noble is allied with rykard and likely the connection which puts him, praetor of the golden order, in contact with the god devouring serpent
We don't know that at all. He could easily just be squatting in the church or be in the process of hijacking the giant skin when we arrive.
There isn't any specific reason to think they're working together.
>rykard's great rune and the godskin cloth have similar effects
This on the other hand is more convincing as a link.
But I'd say that pre-snake Rykard had those traits, too.
The Taker's Cameo depicts the pre-consumption Rykard, but it also has an HP leeching effect. So it could just be a natural trait of Rykard to be one that absorbs the vitality of others.
>>
>>287464050
>There isn't any specific reason to think they're working together.
Ranni stole Destined Death (or a fraction, anyway) from Maliketh, Ranni aided Rykard, Godskins (who want to get Destined Death back from Maliketh) are at Volcano Manor.
It's tenuous, but kinda there. But to be honest, it could go either way. They might be there to get his ass, not to cooperate.
>>
>>
>>287464050
from the taker's cameo
>When Rykard turned to heresy, taking by force became the rule.
>The gods themselves were no different, after all.
the wording, especially that second line, make me think this property occurrs after rykard becomes a heratic. there's also the crucible knight protecting tanith. rykard hits at a fundamental truth of the setting, that power, vitality, what have you comes from consuming life. the crucible functions the same way.
>>
>>287463153
I think he was just there because From wanted a surprise miniboss there, didn't want to use Iron Maidens again, and the godskin noble was the most fitting thing they had on hand.
>likely the connection which puts him, praetor of the golden order, in contact with the god devouring serpent
How is that likely? That's putting quite a lot of importance on one singular copypaste enemy.
>swaddling cloth has a similar effect that absorbs hp on successive attacks
Which means it pairs better with the Malenia related gear. Considering that you fight a godskin in the windmill village (which is near Melania's Shaded Manor) for Milicent's quest, it's obvious that the godskins were once allied with Malenia, but betrayed her. That godskin at the volcano is there to ask Rykard for help against Malenia, which is why he's in the chapel (to pray for help).
>>
>>287465083
likely based on other connections present that I laid out. what has less evidence is the assertion that the noble was an asset placed there for development convienience reasons. where are you pulling that from?

Melania's rune also has a hp leeching effect. Ancestral Spirit Horn restores fp on kill, which if we take the Scar and Sore Seals as a basis, would mean Rykard is an Ancestral Spirit, or some kind of Ancestor Spirit Twin. Likely, it's actually the serpent that's an Ancestor Spirit, rather than Rykard himself.
>>287465140
>likely based on other connections present that I laid out
Castles upon air.
>where are you pulling that from?
I'm not pulling it from anywhere, it's the only answer to the question with any explanatory power. It's also the only answer in which the same reasoning can't produce a different result.

That is crucible magic.
Like how the Crucible Knights can conjure dragon tails or bird wings.
The Godskins covering themselves in skin basically makes their bodies into a mini mobile Crucible, so they can access its mutative powers.

I will always say this: Goblin Ashes are the best keepsake. They will win you boss fights early on, even the Tree Sentinel and Margit, and will be even better at it if you grab some kind of bleed weapon early like the flail.
Of course, they're not as OP as Tiche, Mimic, etc. but they're very flavorful for someone not playing as a powergamer.

Really the Fromsoft combat system is best tuned to handle bosses that are somewhere between twice and five times the size of the player and when you get beyond that, it starts to break down because the enemy is either too large or too small to fight properly given how the camera works.
