I never got the complaint and criticisms about the Naruto powerscale and the whole "I miss when this series was about ninjas!" argument.

The series from the very beginning shows us the upper limit of power with tailed beasts being likened to actual natural disasters that can transform the landscape and what kage-level combat can look like, this is the upper echelon of ninja!

Over the course of the series the core cast grows and eventually our heroes reach that plateau of kage-level combat, and then the ceiling of battles that are like natural disasters! and then naturally right for the finale we get to see that ceiling broken and we go right beyond that for the climax! That's how it should be!! It was great.
I think it the growth and powerscale was done well and progressed in a sensible and well-developed manner.

Like with everything that gets out of control, lower scale means minute decisions matter and more strategising can be done. You can't really do that when someone's nuke attack is just beaten with someone else's quasar one.

Cool isn't the word I would use for Danzo. In fact I would say the reason he's unpopular is because he isn't cool. He's old, he has an ultra-realistic design, he doesn't have any typical shonen villain features or handsomeness to him. Orochimaru, Itachi, Pain, they're cool. Danzo is just realistic. He's a really underrated character but I'm not surprised people dislike him. He's like a seinen character stuck in a shonen manga, if Naruto was more realistic he's what you'd expect the leader of the village to actually be with his take no prisoners, paranoid, merciless ways. He's a total hypocrite as well but that's intentional by Kishi, unlike the Third or Minato, he's actually a coward who could never totally get over his cowardice and it's reflected in his abilities and his hypocrisy over self-sacrifice. He's generally right about a ton of shit but Naruto is an optimistic shonen manga now, so he doesn't fit. Kishi basically uses him as a scapegoat, which kind of sucks, but he's still a great character.

Sure. I think he's cool for a few different reasons personally. Of course there's the nice concept of a """seinen""" character stuck in a shonen manga, the scheming guy who does bad things for good reasons... And there's also how he keeps gathering random interesting powers slowly but steadily (Hashirama cells, Shisui's eye, the arm sharingans for Izanagi). These powers are quite different from the usual annoying shit you see in Shippuden even if they have "sharingan" in the name. And finally I think he's cool because he stands against common codes, he's not some bishonen, he doesn't look conventionally handsome, instead he's this more down to earth design (save for the arm) which fits the idea of a job focused ninja that doesn't try to show off.
