Some advice: Don't use AI for your OC's, as nobody will want to draw for them. If you can't get art delivered of them here then just get them commed if you can afford it. Using AI is lazy and if you really care about your OC's you'll put in the effort to get some actual art done of them if you can. I get AI is fast, these threads are slow and luck based and comms are expensive but AI slop is low quality and you should want your OC to be brought to life in the best way possible.

And, with all due respect, I think so long as you are requesting a character, the source doesn't matter. We literally just had a fill from someone who gave the equivalent of AI prompts. We get fills from people who cobble together 5-30 images with a vague description of "make them look like these things." We get people who use the same template for all 30 of their characters, and they put in just a tiny bit of effort to draw a vague idea of how each one is slightly different.

Using AI to get the "general concept" of how you want your character to look is faster, easier, and cheaper than waiting around for an artist to decide to attempt a fulfillment of your vision, only for some to miss the mark, and you have to accept the fill or be labeled "ungrateful."

In the end, no one here actually cares about their OCs, no one is making bank off their existence, we are just looking to get fap material of a character that is important to no one but ourselves, and only so long as people are willing to give us free art of them.

Simple answer, it was an easy backstory filler that gave her story beats, goals, and room for character growth. Having a character who starts despicable allows their growth towards redemption to be all the more apparent.
(The stories I'm writing are set in an AU, where she never joined up with her companions, aka the table party.)

Long and in-depth answer.

Shalee was part of a nomadic desert Elf tribe. They were a peaceful people, seeking merely to survive in the harsh environments of their lands. One day, they were set upon by bandits, the same ones who Shalee would eventually join. Her people fought back as best they could, but were still captured, killed, or driven off. Shalee and several others were brought to the slave markets to be sold off, but Shalee was too young and inexperienced for the type of slavery they were looking for. The bandits decided to keep her for themselves, figuring they could use her as a camp servant, at least until she got older.

But they started taking a liking to her fiery spirit, teaching her the ways of pickpocketing, knife throwing, and information gathering. She started filing her teeth to fit in with the Orcs, Gnolls, and Goblins, as well as to make her look more fierce.

Eventually, she would even help them in raids, taking out other caravans crossing the deserts. Before anyone knew what had happened, she was a full member of the bandits. She even began leading a group of them on independent raids, and she was good at it. Killing with no remorse, enslaving those who would fetch a high price on the market, and filling the coffers of the whole crew.
