I've been applying for cats at animal shelters and rescues and I never hear back. Sometimes they get adopted a few days later and sometimes they don't get adopted at all and just stay listed. I've never been "rejected" I just never get a response. Is it normally this hard to get a cat? I live in a clean modern apartment, make decent money, work from home. No kids or other pets. I don't understand what could be wrong about me. Any anons ever adopt a cat? How many tries did it take you?

Strange. My relative just got one after her old cat died. I think she did have to be proactive but ahe got it fast. Maybe she got lucky. You're doing Bastet's work, OP.

Have you looked at Craigslist or Facebook marketplace? Often have cats for sale or rehoming. If you wanna go the shelter route though look for adoption events. They hand cats and dogs out like candy at those. Got a kitten i definitely shouldnt have been able to get when I was in highschool at one

There's a car that wasn't available through some mess up in the paperwork. Got lost for a couple years but the shelter found her and called me if I would care for her and let her live with me. I said yes. It looks like she is very unhappy and does self harm stuff. I'll help her get better and heal

I... did not fucking know you could get rejected from getting a pet. This... baffles me.

I am commenting to bump the thread but literally have no way to help you. I have never heard of this issue before. Are you off-putting in some way, a criminal past or something? This is weird

Do you ask for a kitten or adult abandoned cats? Kittens usually go fast.
Also,
>apartment
When I got my last two cats from an animal shelter, I remember that the fact that I live in a house was a big plus.
The funny part is that those two cats, roughly 3years old that were abandoned, were probably apartment cats because they are almost afraid of going in the garden (let alone visiting others').
Another not so funny part is that one has asthma and the other has epilipsy (the worst disease for a cat that I ever saw and I had 9 in my life).
Have you considered exploring other ways like friends giving kittens from a recent litter or local facebook pages?

there are some shelters that prefer to keep animals because this way they get more funds
