Thread #34439070
What do you guys do when feeling nihilistic and like there is no future to be had? I've reached a point in my life where I genuinely cannot muster up the energy to do even basic things and everything seems pointless, (sorry if that comes across as edgy).
Not a pity thread, genuinely asking what you guys do to keep the fire going, whether it be hobbies, work, or just daily rituals when severely depressed.
Right now I'm trying the 5 minutes method, which is helping me at least maintain things like brushing my teeth/general hygeine and going to the gym, but it's very slow going for everything else that I used to take joy in doing.

Well, you're not wrong. They say, the point is whatever you make it. However, the point itself is pointless. So there's truly no point. However, that doesn't mean you can't abuse your dopamine receptors while you still can. Because fundamentally, life's purpose is about survival, reproduction and dopamine. So go out there and give yourself dopamine, either through short term easy abuse, or long term fulfillment. And just survive, knock a woman up, and have fun.

I do Mauy Thai. Extremely fun and addicting once you get the hang of it. The way I read and respond to peoples movement with my own movement is extremely satisfying and gives me a lot of dopamine, especially when I land those clean hits. I'm also very depressed, and have been for a long time. For about 9 years of constant depression. Feeling like I have no purpose. But Mauy Thai keeps me here. Like an addictive video game that you want to keep playing instead of going to bed. Maybe try that.

Not to sound stubborn, but that's something I can't just get my head behind. Like, physically, I can't conjure up the energy to get myself to do anything. Regardeless if life has meaning or not, something about my own willpower, whether it be about gaining pleasure short term or long term fulfillment, there's something that just isn't clicking, and that's what I need advice on fixing.

I used to get pleasure from surfing and boarding, but recently I've been guilt stricken over doing both. I'll go ahead and pick up another sport!
