it seems like work is overwhelming agitating and depressing no matter how easy the job itself is or how little I actually do it, only being twice a week. I suspect there is no cure.

Dunno
That's kind of where I'm at right now but everyone keeps telling me not to.
Like we "shouldn't" yeah. But could we? Maybe. Don't listen to me go talk to a therapist or something.

Don't do that. Read the Bible instead, perhaps you will find comfort in it. Try also to give your life direction. I wish to buy land, to raise cattle, chickens, rabbits, and sheep, to build a villa, and to find a wife. Though I have not yet attained any of this, I do not find myself empty.

There is a quieter joy that does not depend on achievement. A hot summer day beneath a generous sun, the steady song of crickets, the wind passing through the trees and brushing against me as it goes. In such simple things, one may still find a deep and abiding contentment.

Get a better boss. Seriously, I once had a job as a dish washer. Long hours of hard work. But the job was awesome because my boss was this old alcoholic Québecoise lady who insisted I call her "maman" and was in the kitchen working twice as hard as I was.

What's even worse is when you don't have to work anymore and it hits you that life isn't that much better without it and blaming work was a convenient scapegoat for all your problems

yeah I don't think I actually will, it really isn't all THAT bad and I am Christian so I've got that extra layer of "this doesn't even align with my beliefs" so I guess no worries there. It's just silly. I personally think I'm mentally ill, not just "yeah I was diagnosed with aspergers" but something more deeply wrong to the point that I struggle with basic stuff. But I'll try to deal with it.

This does help, I know it for a fact. My favorite job of all time was in a factory where the boss didn't care what we did between tasks - so even though we had 7-10 tasks per day, once we finished those, we took a 30 min or so break inbetween. And no sour looks from anyone. Only reason I lost it was I had a really bad bout of fever for a week and I couldn't really argue to keep my job.
