Is hopping from video to video on YouTube worse for you mentally than channel surfing was in the 90s?

Yes, because it's inexhaustible. 10 minutes of channel surfing resulted in either picking something, or turning off the TV because nothing good was on. Youtube has endless worthless garbage to sift through, so in order for it to end you have to consciously decide for it to end.

just watching things isn't necessarily engaging your critical thinking abilities, neither with youtube nor with TV 30 years ago. you retain more information from reading and/or having interactive conversations. AI is actually great for this. for the most part it's free knowledge from an expert teacher
